  1. I think you better call the cruze ship company, they might be considering changing the departure times !!! I was just watching the nice lady on the weather channel, and she seemed pretty excited about what might be headed for the North Eastern coastal cities, They used term's like this could be the " storm of the century," for the New York, Boston Area !! About an hour ago, the guy was saying things like, " Hurricane hitting New York City "
  2. I bought and installed in a tank bag, the Jensen MODEL JHD910 marine, industrial application radio. AM / FM weather channel. So far so good, seems to be a very good radio. How long it will last, ??? don't know yet. But they are expensive, so I'm assuming is pretty good quality. So far I am happy with its performance.
  3. Anybody on the east coast !! ------ heads up, ------ check the weather channel !!! you might be in for some rain, and a bit of wind !!!!! ( if you have not noticed the weather report in the last 24 hours )
  4. As they say, look where your going, and you will go where your looking !! :whistling:
  5. I ordered a new " ClearView" windshield for the new 08 RSTD. Supposed to be here Friday this week. 2 inch wider, each side, and more lower, wind protection. Will take photos of the conversion, and post, if anybody is interested in that modification for an RSTD. Been waiting about 2 weeks for delivery, no problem, its been raining in Seattle again. Also have Heated grips on the way, so will be busy with modifications next week !!
  6. Pull out the Instrument cluster, open it, clean the Speedo parts, also be sure to pull out the drive cable, and clean and lubricate it. Most likely a good cleaning, and lubrication job will fix it up OK. Good time to also replace all of the Instrument cluster light bulbs !! While your in the area, be sure clean all the connectors on the Plugs for all the relays located in that area.
  7. Unless something newer and better has come on the market, most of the members here have zeroed in on the DEKA brand AGM type batteries. I have an Odyessy brand AGM that is now 7 years old, and still working OK. Another Odyessy I had died after 5 years, of use. My new 08 RSTD, has a Yuasa AGM installed OEM. Seems to be working just fine.
  8. Did you check the Intake manifold bolts, right at the cylinder heads. O-rings under there are known to leak. Only two Allen head bolts on each cylinder holding the Manifolds, onto the heads. They do come loose. I remember one fellow said he replaced the O-rings, but still had leaks, and had to remove them again and apply sealant in addition to the new O-rings. Well maby worth checking for.
  9. This has been discussed a few times over the years here, also applies to the 1st gens. Could the different jet size's be because of different rates of " heat dissipation " for the front cylinders, as compared to the rear cylinders ?? ie: there would be more air flow over the front cylinders, to dissipate heat, as compared to the rear cylinders ?? Just poseing that question here , Hmmmm ???
  10. I have had problems with Enterprise in the past. Be sure you inspect the car before you take it !!!! Any scratchs or dents on it, Don't take that car. Enterprise likes to nick you for small damage repairs. I always go with National since problems with other companies.
  11. I recently sold my 89 ( no tryke kit ) for $2800.00. No questions asked. Everything on it was working!! Ready to ride. !!! (All service work, up to date ) If this unit you are looking at needs. considerable amount of " Obvious " work, you can be assured it needs a lot more work that is NOT Obvious !!! If its been sitting a long time, your looking at a weeks work, new tires, new battery, fluid changes ( all of them ) and most likley it needs new Front Fork Springs. Frankly, I would say, find something that is " On the Road " running, and is up to date on maintenance. ( And, at least has a new set of tires, and battery ) I-- would not go over $1800 on that thing, and --- well you get my point
  12. Recomended to buy the tool, cost about $100.00. Its a good investment. Once you have the tool, its easy to do it yourself.
  13. Frankly I'm terrified in the " retail " parking lots when driveing my largest " SUV " !! My wife worked for about 5 years, part time, for a greeting card company, stocking, shelves at at retail outlets. Its amazing how many dents and scratches showed up on her 03 Chev Blazzer, during those 5 years. !! I figured whats the point in fixing them ?? Anyway, my 03 blazer proudly wears its grocery store parking lot wounds, and battle scars !! :whistling:
  14. We have " faith in you " it shall motor on down the road's sooner or later !!! :whistling:
  15. will pull the seat, tank, and whatever, soon, and get to the primary wireing and see what the readings are. Raining here today ( the 85 day drought in Seattle is over ) At this point, my problem is, Only one Cylinder is causeing Popping Ignition noise in the AM radio. But, its pretty bad.
  16. Do you have a gov't issued " tinkering permit " ?
  17. Thanks much !!! , Well it was an idea while it lasted. OK, so I guess the next obvious, approach would be to use 1st Gen Coils !! I still have 3 extra's laying around , would only have to get one more. So next obvious question would be, are the 1st gen coils, compatiable, with the TCI units on the 2nd gen bikes ??? Hmmmmm I guess will start researching the Input Impedance of the Primary Winding's of the Two coils, ( 1st gen, verse's the 2ndgen coils ) Try to determine if the old coils can saftly be used on the 2nd gen bikes.
  18. Well I was looking closely at the coils on my new 08. The wire is standard solid core copper. Looking closely where the Wire Enters the Hole on the Coil assembly, there appears to be Clear Sealastic Sealant. SO, I'm wondering, IF, they simply Screwed the wire into the hole with and Applied SEALANT, to hold it in place. IF so, then I should be able to replace the wire with a different type of plug wire. ( ie: shielded wire, I'm working on reduceing Ignition noise in my radios. ) So, if I could get a ---- " known " --- " BAD "----- Coil, and just Yank out the wire, and see if there is a Pointed, Threaded , Screw, in there, just like on the old 1st Gen coils. IF So, then I can replace the wires, If this makes sence. But would cost me $50 bucks to tear apart a good coil to find out, so looking for a bad one someplace, I figure sombody might have one laying around, that has been replaced, anyway, thanks, will keep looking,
  19. Anybody have a Bad, Removed, throwaway, 2nd Gen Ignition coil laying around. Need to pull out the plug wire, and get a look at whats down inside the hole after the wire is pulled out. ( or whatever it takes to get it out ) Thanks
  20. I need to install Heated Grips on my 08 RSTD .. Am looking for suggestions as to what aftermarket parts are reccomended by anybody here. What have you used? do they work ? are you satisfied with whatever types you have installed. Open to comments :detective:
  21. No extra space for a wider rear tire on 1st gens. Stock size, just fits ! Maby possible to change the swing arm, but ????
  22. DEKA -----
  23. Going to try this again. Anybody have an old , bad, removed, ignition coil from a 2nd gen laying around ?? If you replaced a coil, could you pull the plug wire out of the " old " ignition coil, and take a photo, or let me know, if the plug wire can be " Re-Installed " after you pull out the old one ?? ie: is there a pointed SCREW inside the hole the same as on the 1st Gen Ignition coils ??? I'm trying to figure out if I can replace the plug wire on these coils, but do not want to destroy a good one in the process. Any help here, appreciated, thanks.
  24. I have a " rocket " and I'm not a teen ager !! Also, I'm still alive :)
  25. A common problem with these bikes, the fix is to remove the rear wheel, clean everything, and GREESE everything. Also a good idea to remove the drive unit, change the SAE-90 oil, and also, pull out the drive shaft, and hand greese the splines on both ends of the drive shaft. ( the service manuel does not call out this proceedure, !! ) But, most likley you will find the splines are completly dry !! see this link: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1393 see this link: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1057 Remove the large Circlip, and pull out the item with the Large Pins from the wheel after you remove it, Clean everything, and Greese Everything, After you re-assemble the shaft, drive unit, and re-install the wheel, Re-Torque all the nuts and bolts, then, Loossen them again, then Tap Tap Tap on everything to " Relieve Stress " !! Then Re-Torque all the Nuts, in Steps, and keep tapping on everything, add torque etc, etc, until you get to the proper torque settings. BE sure to RE - Install the Thick Washer, on the right side of Axel in the correct Position !!!!!!!!!!!! This is a common mistake, and if you get it wrong, the rear brake will be running at an " Angle " !!! As long as you have it appart, Check the INNER REar Brake pad !! Most likley it will be worn At an ANGLE, If rear pads are worn about 1/2 thickness, REPLACE Them as long as you have it pulled Apart. As long as you have the wheel Out, It is highly reccomended that you dissassemble and Hand Greese, the Suspension Linkage Under the Rear Shock, ( see the above Link !!! ) ( most likley its never been done !! again, not in the service proceedure's in the manuel ) If your rear tire is more then half worn out, good idea to install a new Dunlop E-3 Tire. :whistling: I would also consider Replaceing ALL the Brake fluid in the Rear system !! Use Synthectic Brake fluid, ( be sure to leave 1/2 inch of expansion space in the rear brake resovoiur, for heat expansion of the fluid ) Figure , working on it at least ALL day on Saturday,
