I always just answer this question by telling folks to go to a dealer that stocks a very large selection, and spend lots of time to find one that fits and feels good. If its right for you, its worth whatever it costs. I also have two friends, that are alive because they were " Wearing "

I once had a Blow Out going 75 on the San Diego Freeway. ( in the middle of LA, during Rush Hour ) Would you like to hear the details ???? I never want to relive that experience. You have a Heavy Motorcycle, It has a 90 plus HP motor, You have One Life, Think about what you are saying. Buy cheap gas, buy cheap beer, buy cheap anything, But I would never reccomend to anybody to buy Cheap Motorcycle Tires

83 Venture overheating Help
GeorgeS replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You said you rebuilt the water pump, so your impeller is OK. All the above reply's are good info, however Due to Age, I think I would Remove and replace " All " of the hose's. Go to the IPC and order all of them. Dureing the replacement process you will probably find a blockage someplace. Also, Consider that there might be a lot of Crorrosion " INSIDE " of the Radiator, !!! Take it to to a professional radiator rebuild person, and have it checked out. But if its plugged up, I would suspect you might need a new radiator. You might not be getting enough flow capacity thru the radiator. -
Or, you could say " Over " at end of transmission.

I have decided to Keep, my Old car (112,000 miles on it ) instead of buying new. Wifes car will be paid off in about 6 mo. ( 53K on that one ) Anyway, no car payments, after 6 months, that money can go for gas. The old 93 T-Bird still running great, I just put on new rubber, and I am going to keep driveing it till something blows up on it.

55 Olds, not that great a car, but sure had a lot of fun with it, cruzin 101 on the Calif coast !! The good old days

Hey Jack!!! I can't believe you said that !!! No such thing as a motorcycle that don't have to be worked on !!! As to sitting room, I think the only bike with a longer wheel base, is a Gold Wing !! or am I wrong. How about that 1800cc Yamaha V-twin. Its pretty Long, I think. Stratoliner, is that what its called ?? Run down to a dealer, and sit on one of those.
-
The Elite Series of Dunlops, are far supeior to the D - 404 Series. They are made for the heavy Gold wings. I ran an elite II to 14K, and it would have eaisly went another 2 to 3 K. The D-404's are good for small 500 lb bikes.

First give the Switch a Bath with CRC 2-26, blow out with compressed air. That might do it. do the same for the Run-Stop Switch. Check fuse holders, " mainly the ING" fuse. fuse might be loose in holder. Find and check, your Main, 40 Amp fuse, The screws that hold the element in place might be loose .( I know, its a wierd type of fuse ) Connect Voltmeter, to Bat. monitor what the voltage drops to when the Start Solinoid engages. ( Battery might have intermittant internal short, it does happen )

Its the Weather out here, or lack of it ( Snow that is, and cold ) I also see that lots of rich folks from foriegn countries are moveing here and paying cash. ( bye " here " I mean the Pacific Coast ) Anyway, folks who got money, and don't need a job, and want good weather ( most of the time ) are buying up the West Coast. All up and down Wa. and Oregon, its the same thing. Also, lots of retired folks from back East, heading to the left coast. (( Note: Real Estate Tax, in Ore is about double what it is in Wa.) They are still building in the Seattle Suberbs, it has slowed down considerably, but the new house's are still selling. About $450 ,000 now in Renton, for the average 4 bd, 2 ba. home. But they only have 12 feet between them now, and 2 car garage, with a 2 story layout, about 2000 to 2400 Sq. feet. If you go out to about 35 miles East or SE of Seattle, you can get in for about 370K. But sales, very very slow. Sales are very slow, but they are selling. The Old homes close into Seattle downtown area, ( say about 7 miles ) are going for 6 to 900K, and they are junkers built back in the 30's and 40's. I would not want one of them for 50K, or any price that is. I bought in here in 84, and I'm just going to sit on it. For 4 or 5 years at least. However, if you wanted to live in some small podunk hollow town in Rural Wa. State, price would be about half what it is in the Seattle Area, or Portland.

Setting Float Levels
GeorgeS replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Why is it important ??? I think its because of Barometric Pressure, The Hight of the fuel, is important, because barometric pressure is what forces the fuel into the carb. I don't know the details, but I remember reading about this once. So the fuel level is supposed to be set, for Average Barometric pressure. ( which obviously changes with weather, and altitude. ) Do some research on Basic Carburator theory. It should be someplace on the internet. -
Have You ever?
GeorgeS replied to FROG MAN's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think it should fit, I thought I heard the Carbs on the 83 to 85 were different then 86 to 93. ?? You probably have to use the 1300cc engine carbs. By the way, where is the Oil leak ?? Did you give the engine a pressure wash, to clean everything, so you can pin point where the oil is comeing from?? It may not be as hard to fix as you think. -
Post some close up's of them, maby we can help in figureing out where they came from

What unmarked cars are they using in your state
GeorgeS replied to muffinman's topic in Watering Hole
I had my radar det singing many times this summer, and never did pick out the patrol car. They could be useing anything for wheels. One Wa. State HP, works HYW 18 east of Seattle, he has an old late 50's Ford pickup truck. It looks like a pile of Junk from the outside. But the running gear and engine, and tires, are PRIMO !! And his Red Lights work just fine. -
OK, here is my way of getting rid of a car behind me, that is for tailgateing, or whatever else he is doing to make me nervous, or feel threatened. If on a 2 or more lane highway, I sucker him to the right lane, or if thats where you are the time the tailgateing starts. Ease your bike to the Far Left, side of YOUR lane, the tailgater won't notice this. Now watch your left mirror, when the left lane is clear, quickly jump to the next lane over, and Hit the Brakes. !! Now you are behind the tailgater, before he knows what happened. Now keep slowing down an get as far behind the guy as you can in the least amount of time. Especially if the guy has shown any sign of beligerance. On a two lane road, this don't work. Then I go for speed, open the distance, and try to get as many vehicals between me and him, untill I can dissapear on a right or left turn. One time I had a guy chaceing me in heavy traffic, on 2 lane freeway. I managed to get ahead of a big truck, so he could not see me, I then took the right shoulder, slowed, got back on and was 3 cars behind him before he knew where I went. He actually tried the same trick with his car, but I opened the distance, and took a side road into a residential area, and lost him. The dude was actually hunting me down. There are lots of things you can do, to get away, High speed should be the last resort, but use it if you have to . Make use of you superior manuverability of your motorcycle. This situation seems to be getting worse of late, If I detect the slightest bit of aggression from a car driver, I do whatever I have to do, to dissapear from his sight in the shortest amount of time. On trip back from Colo. this summer, I used one of the Illegal U-Turn points on a freeway, that are only there for the Highway patrol. The aggressor was a mile down the road before he knew where I went, He was going still west, and I was going East. Anyway, you get my point, Dissapear, go away, slip behind him, whatever it takes Or, just take the shoulder and Stop.

My Avon is an " H " . No two up rideing. No trailer ----- About 5k high speed on two trips, the rest, low and mid speed local driveing. I usually carry about 30lb. of junk in the bags. Had about 50lb. on the two trips of extra wgt. Ol' Erns, you must have a D-404. Don't buy them anymore. They are good tires for a 500 lb motorcycle. They might cost less, however consider, all the extra cost of changing them twice as often, especially for those folks that pay a dealer to do the work. But if you want to stay with Dunlop, I would suggest the Dunlop Elite Series. They are built for the big Gold Wings. Far better tire. I ran one to 14K, and removed it. I am sure it would have went another 2K at least. Also, I cut a cross section out of the old tire, It has 1/2 inch of rubber after it worn smooth. ( Its posted somplace here ) Does anybody out there have a worn out Avon, they could cut out a cross section, and take some close up photo's to post. I would like to see how much rubber is below the wear bars on the Avon's ?? Also, the Dunlop,s and the Michelan Commander, and the Conti. I would like to see a cut out of all the popular tires that fit the Ventures. !!!!

Parking in marked stalls..ediquite and safety
GeorgeS replied to tony h's topic in Safety and Education
Well, my wife went to downtown Seattle, to the County Gov't office last week, to get a permit to cut down 3 tree's. (( That cost $85.00 )) She told me, the charge for the parking lot, was $10.00. This was one of those times, that we had no choice in the matter. No place else to get the permit. -
I just found this web site. Lots of information the basic operation of carburators, if anybody is interested. I was looking for info on setting float levels, when I just found the site. http://hondanighthawks.net/carbhelp.htm?
