Just a note: concerning the other supper power. Yes, they did go broke, and were broke when the Iron Curtain Fell, Back When. Howerver, They Ain't Broke Now!! They are in the Black !! How did they do it ?? Simple, they hit Oil Below 30,000 feet. ( I know thats hard to believe) . Its been happenig, very quietly, the drive bye media has NOT been covering it. They are pumping oil, in massive quanties frome places where there ain't supposed to be any!! Just a note: One 30,000 ft well has hit in Wyoming. Intersting that media is not covering that. Do Research: Google: the following. " Deep Oil " " Oil rigs, 30,000 ft capacity " " BP Drilling rig, Atlantis " " Gull Island, capped wells " Its a complicated subject, I spent 3 weeks researching On Line, before I got the full picture.

16 Gauge Stranded wire is More then large enough. Absolutly NO reason to go over 14 gauge. I don't like, 18, but if rewireing 55 Watt lights, I would use 16. Plenty Big.

Seems that the market for New Bikes, and Good used ones is Glutted: Same as the Houseing market. Maby they just see the Handwriting on the Wall, as Harley Does Not. Could be they are just cutting back on production, in anticipation of slow marketing ahead. As In: We got 2 to 3 years production, stored in the Warehouse someplace. Same as Ford and Chevy ( least we not forget Harley )

They all help. Choke, or Capacitor. Rule of thumb is the closer to the Source of the noise you put the Cap, or Choke the better. That link I posted had many different commercial noise filters. Cheap to expensive. the basic capacitor is just from 12 V line to Ground. Idea is the Cap, pass's AC ( any varying voltage ) to Ground, but does not pass DC. A Choke, or in line inductance, Will pass DC, but block AC, ( your noise is AC ) So some of those commercial filters, will be a combination, of Inductance, and capacitance. I was checking mine today, on a short ride, seemed to be a lot of noise just on the Intercom, with NO microphone pluged in. This has been getting worse.

Radio shack has Capacitor p/n 272-1022, 4700uf 35V caps for $5.49. Add one or two of these just before the Existing Noise filter. Also, Radio Shack p/n 272-1047 1000 uf 50V for $1.69 each. I am thinking adding one of these to ground just at the Power Input, to the CB control panel, The Radio control Panel, and the power plug into the tape player. Also, the 6 wire cable, that runs back to the passenger control unit, might be picking up Ignition Noise. The R/B and R wires carry power. I'm thinking a 1000 uf cap added to the R/B wire back at the pas control might help. ( worth a try ) See, page 8-42 Schematic of service manual for wireing showing pull apart plugs, and Wire Color Codes. This also shows that the Noise filter, the Amp unit, and the Tuner, seem to have a Case Ground wire running to a Ground stud someplace. Black wire's going to ground. Make sure these grounds are Zero ohms to ground. I have not checked these myself, but will look into it. Hope this helps. If anybody, has any luck with this information, please let me know.

I have the same thing on my 89. When bike was new, there was no ignition noise in the Radio, tape, or intercomsystem. For the last 3 years its seems to be getting worse. Basicly a Noise filter for 12 circuits is just a Big Big Capacitor. ( usually 1000 to 3000 uF unit ) Rule of thumb, is the larger the amount of capacitance the better. Or, commercially built units: Check this web site for examples. http://www.tessco.com/products/displayProducts.do?groupId=619&subgroupId=65 Also: Search Google: " MSD Noise Filter. $37.95" " Automobile ignition noise filter " You will find a lot of information by searching this google search words. I will do some more checking into this, as I have to do something to mine also. Will let you know what I find

Need a little guidance
GeorgeS replied to cpudoc's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I use a plastic box, with about 20 seperate bins to keep all the parts IN, in the ORDER OF REMOVAL!! This makes it a lot eaiser to re install everything. -
I'm not sure if it applies to All, Harley dealers, but most of them in Calif won't touch any bike over 5 years old. I was told this by my Brother in Law. (( He has 3 Harleys )) so I guess he would know.

You can also, just refill with water, and Run engine, then Redrain. Do this a couple times, before putting in the New Stuff. Be sure to Use " Distilled " water. On refill I just add 1 1/2 Qt. new Anti Freez, then add 1 1/2 Qt. Distilled Water. Next day, top off the Over Flow Bottle.

1st Gen Radio help
GeorgeS replied to lonestarmedic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
this happened on mine a couple years ago. I had removed the left Panel, when Reinstalling it, one of the Pins go t bent as the panel was being replaced. Don't remember exactly which one, but anyway be very carefull when replacing the panel. Its easy to bend those pins , The Plug Under the Radio Control Panel. -
As to the statements regarding " New Riders Over 40 "---- This has been in my estimation something that has been ignored over the years, in discussions about motorcycle safty in general. My take on this, is that the New, "Over 40" ( I would modify this to 30 to 60 ) has a particular problem, in dealing with becomeing a Safe Biker. After driveing a Car or Truck for many years he has learned to deal with safty Issues from the standpoint of being in a 4 wheeled vehical. ( this is good ) However, there are many driveing techniqes that are Right to use when in a Car, But WRONG to use when on a 2 wheeled vehical. Example: If you tailgate, when in a CAR. you might end up in a Wreck, or be involved in a few thousand dollars of damage, or maby just a few hundred. ----- If you tailgate cars when rideing your motorcycle, if the driver ahead of you decides to slam on his brakes !! YOU ARE PROBABLY DEAD !! and the amout of dollar damage really won't matter to you !! I could go on and on. This is just my best example.

I have been fighting computer problems that last two days. Anyway, just a reminder, Microsoft has a lot of Security updates for free download on their sight. If you have not checked this for awhile.

1st Gen Radio help
GeorgeS replied to lonestarmedic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I know you been working on it, but I would double check all the connectors. Also there are a couple cables from the Rt side that cross over to the left side, have you checked for damage to any of these cables. Be sure to check the connections at the Antenna signal splitter, where the Cable from Ant splits to the CB and Radio. In the fuse holder , located, just fwd of battery, and its right, there are Two fuse's that feed power to the Audio system, check these. Where the radio panel Plug connects to the top of the Amp, check the Pull apart plug carefully for bent pins. The plug at the CB unit, clean with CRC 2-26, contact cleaner. also tug on all the wires , make sure they are crimped tight into the male and female sections of the plug. Carefully clean all the DIN plugs that go into top of the AMP unit. The cable from the Amp Unit that goes to the rear of the Bike, to the passenger unit. Follow this cable inch by inch, looking for any signs of damage, all the way into the Pass control unit. Also, find the wire harness that goes up to the Left handle bar control unit, follow this cable inch by inch also, looking for damage. Schematic, shows that this cable has a pull apart plug between the Remote, and the Amp unit. Also a pull apart plug going to the passenger control. See service manual, schematic page 8-41 and 42. you will see these plugs. I'm not sure exactly where they are located. Again, clean all plugs with CRC 2-26 electrical contact cleaner. Anyway, I'm thinking damaged wireing, someplace. -
Thats right Jack, and its even better with a 50 Knot Cross Wind !!!!!

As to buying a fuse like that, I have never seen one like it before, and I been an Aviation, technition for 40 years, I've delt with just every kind of fuse there is. But when I first got this bike, and looked at that fuse, I realized I was onto something Entirely Different. Not sure if you can even get them from Yamaha.

battery cables for venture
GeorgeS replied to northrider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Before replaceing, try resoldering the Studs on the ends of both Battery cables. Clean ends at Engine where Neg cable connects to ground point. Also, you might have a High Resistance Solinoid, Only fix for this, just get a new one. -
Check carefully INside, the Plactic case for the 40 amp fuse. There was originally 1 or 2 spares included, they are inside the Case. Unless sombody allready removed them. Also: If that 40 AMP fuse blew, check All the other fuses !!! one of them might also been blown. Also: If the 40 amp fuse blew, you have a DEAD Short somplace , Most Likley. You better do some checking and find out Why it blew before you replace it.

Is it a Sealed Battery? IF not: Check the water level. if low add distilled water. If its a sealed, battery, on 1 year old bike, Charge at 2 amp rate or more for 4 to 6 hours, and then check voltage level every day for a few days. Unhooked from bike. Not with a Trickle charger, use a Real Charger, If voltage level keeps dropping battery is probably going bad.

Agreed !
