Not sure you ever can make everyone happy. I started with stock, then cut it down 3 to 4 inches and really liked that. Then change rear links to raise the back up 1 inch which seemed to change the air some. Still didn't bother me, but my wife absolutly hated it. Next was the extra high / wide F4 with vent. Great windsheild and gives a good air pocket and the wife loves it. Also pretty good when its cold. With that said, its getting warm and I'm thinking of getting a new F4 with a -2 inch height for the warm weather when I'm riding alone and just put the taller one on when my wife goes along. It might be worth the time to change back and forth just to keep the back side noise down. Of course, you didn't even mention fuel mileage and how we loose 3 to maybe 5 mpg by running the oversized sheild. I like some air, but like I said, just can't make everyone happy, even me I guess!

Backrest
JerryT replied to frmarksiegelhotmail.com's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I also have the Utopia and like it. Can adjust to what ever position you want. Go to the website and you can look at the installation instructions. Just drill out 2 holes to larger size. Take their suggestion and lay something over the fender as the drill bit can hit the fender real easy when the bit goes through. Very easy install.- 9 replies

If you add a RTB controller I think you may get what you want. Change the blinkers out to led's and they will run on low power all the time for additional back lighting. If you want to add additional led lighting to the saddlebags or what ever, just wire them in with the turns. That will let them run all the time on low power, and either blink or brake with the turns. My suggestion for the RTB is the Kurakyn #4613 as this will work as a plug and play on the second gen RSV and extremely easy install. I added 2 - 24 lamp brake bars under my trunk with each wire to each side with the blinkers. They run on low power all the time, then blink / brake with the other lights. Easy install and lots of light.

So far I am happy with my 665. I am a big xm fan on the bike and also really like the weather map feature when on trips. For me this works very well. Not sure on antenna, I have mine mounted on the mounting bracket right by the unit and it works well for me. At first I mounted the antenna inside the fairing on top of the cassette player which also worked pretty well. Issue here was the xm code is in the puck, so if I wanted to put it in my car, had to split the fairing to get it out which was a big of a pain.

Yep go taller and wider for the passenger. My vote is for the F4Custom windsheild. I think they may still be offering a discount to ventureriders.

Just another thought, you might look at changing to a pillow top seat. I think most people think the pillow tops are more comfortable. Just depends on how far you ride and how much you like the current seat / look. Good luck either way.

Thats only just a little over $80,000 US. So how many of them do you want?

Same here, Amsoil. Also use Amsoil filter. I like it because I can buy direct and have shipped direct to my house. One less trip somewhere.

Bought my 665 last year from www.pcnation.com They had the best price at the time, in stock and delivery was good. As for the 665, overall I am happy with it. I wanted XM and it works well. Also have the weather sub. which gives current weather/radar maps. If you take long trips, this is a great option and tells you when you are about to get wet.

Mustang or Corbin Seat
JerryT replied to viragofan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I put a mustang on my Roadie and it was much much better then stock. Stock seat on a Roadie might be the worst seat ever made and reminds me of the RSTD seat, but I've never been on a RSTD seat. Now I'm on a venture and for me, the stock pillow top venture seat is much better then the mustang. No problem to do back to back 700+ mile days. If I were looking for a new seat, think my next choice would be a day long, but don't know if they make one for the TD. A lot may depend on what type of riding you do. I think several people here have come up with a way to mount venture seats on a TD. My suggestion is to contact them to find how they did it and try to find used pillow top venture seats. I don't remember anyone ever complaining about passenger comfort on a venture stock pillow top seat. -
LED Headlamps/Passing Lamps
JerryT replied to DONATALIE's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've been looking at the same lights. I like everything except the price. Waiting on someone to try them and get some feedback, so please let me know how they work if someone gets them or already has them. -
I have one on mine, but my vent is mounted high. Best guess is with a standard vent there would not be enough room between the bottom of the vent and the dash for one. You might be able to modify one by removing the center bag or finding 2 smaller bags and putting on each of vent but I'm not sure.

F4 Customs Windshield Pics on a RSV
JerryT replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sorry for delay. Son has my digital camera, so I took these with my cell. Hopefully will show up, but not to good a pic. Lots of places to get these if you like the windsheild bag. Just loosen up windsheild, slide in and tighten back up. Just held in by pressure between dash and sheild, but mine never moves and I use this all the time to keep "stuff." -
F4 Customs Windshield Pics on a RSV
JerryT replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Put the F4 on mine last fall right before a 4000+ mile trip. I went with the +2 height and width with the vent installed higher then normal so I could keep my windsheild bags. My comments would be overall a great sheild and I would buy another one. Two issues with my vent: 1. By raising it up puts air more in face then chest. I knew this and am OK with this though it might bother some. Like I said, not giving up my windsheild bags. 2. In the rain, the vent seems to leak some water which goes up the backside of the sheild which does mess with some visibility. Front sheds water very well. As for buffering, I'm not sure the driver will notice that much difference from stock, but the passenger will. For me, if I was always riding by myself, I would go with stock or maybe even -2" on height, but when the other half is along, go with +2". Gas mileage will also suffer with the +2, especially if you get in a hurry. One other comment, the guys at F4 are top notch. Call them with any questions and they will help you. Seems like a great company with a great product. -
I wouldn't bet on that. I though MO passed a law a couple of years back requiring 10% blend, then modified it to only when it was cheaper. The problem is, its almost always cheaper. In most states today, filling stations are not required to even tell you they are selling blended gas so how can you tell. The whole ethanol thing is a joke imo. Besides lower BTU values which results in reduced gas mileage, it actually cost more per mile to use it plus all the other issues. Typical gov BS.

Moving the cd changer was a........
JerryT replied to royalstar09's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
One of the first things I did was take the cd player out. Trunk space more important to me. Many of the gps systems have memory cards for music, so if you are thinking of a gps, this might be the time to look at them. I went with a zumo 665 because I wanted the xm with weather feature which is great on trips. If you get down to the kc area anytime, just holler. -
I'm not positive, but my 08 accessory cat shows that is the right number (STR-1D651-20-00)for an 08 so it should work. Hopes this helps.

My voip is through ooma. Had it a couple of years now and works fine. Not sure on how 911 works, but seems to have all the features. You might check ooma.com to find more info. Had to purchase the original box (best buy)and pay an additional setup fee of I think $20 to keep our original phone number. Other then that, no annual fees. Only issue is sending faxes have to add a pause. Once you figure that out, no issues. If you have a decent internet connection, not sure why anyone would also pay for a land line when you can have it basically for free.

Which LED Signal LIghts?
JerryT replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm not positive on the RSTD. If the connection plug is the same as the RSV, it should work. Kuryakyn doesn't show the 4613 working for the RSV. It shows working for the 1600 Roadie which has the same wiring / tail lights as the RSV and I think it is the same as the RSTD. This will work and is what is on my RSV. My suggestion is to ride to your local dealer, pop the seat and get the dealer to let you try one. I actually took a picture of my plug first, showed it to my local shop, and they let me try it. They had just hard wired one in a couple of weeks earlier, so were happy to find a plug / play solution. Good luck either way. -
Someone advertized a couple of these last year as new old stock. I was lucky enough to pick one up with the tach and volt meter. I really like the larger tach and am very happy with it. If someone has access to a small thermoformer, it shouldn't take that much to make them if they had one for a pattern. Just a thought.

Which LED Signal LIghts?
JerryT replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sneaking, If you are trying to get the most light on, you might consider putting red led's in the back. This along with a run-turn-brake controller will run the blinker led's all the time as running lights. I think you may already have clear lenses so only need to change lamps. If you are looking for a RTB controller, my suggestion is Kuryakyn #4613 which is a plug and play RTB for the RSV. Works great and really increases rear visability. Good luck with what ever you choose. Here's a not so good picture of the back of mine. -
How well do the Gerbing Gloves work in the rain? Any issues with them getting soaked?
-
I agree, everyone has a preference for whatever reason and the ones listed seem to get good reviews here. For me, I use the amsoil and also use the amsoil filter. Biggest reason, I can order and have shipped direct to my house. In short, its easier and I hate going to walley world.

As to what a dealer should charge, mine charged me $27 OTD to do mine. I still haven't bought the carb sync tool. On the list.
