Custom Dynamics Bulb Question
JerryT replied to farm1810's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Think you have a 08 TD so I'm not sure. I would think they would be the same as the RSV. My 09 RSV has two pins on the bulb that are at an angle, not straight across. As to color, I'ld use red, but my lenses are clear. I also changed the main brake lense to clear, just my preference. Personally I would add a run-turn-brake controller. This makes the lights stay on all the time giving you more lights on the back. Also makes lights flash on braking which I also think is good. To me it's just personal preference so no right or wrong answer. -
I'm not looking for v-star, but would like to find a drivers seat for 2nd gen RSV. If you find that please let me know, condition not to important, as I plan to have it re-built. Thanks.

I bought one that looks just like it off eBay for ~$48. Used it once and it's not for me. If anyone is interested in it, pm me w an offer.

I have both frog togs and tourmaster. For me the tourmasters are really good when its cold and always keep you dry, they don't breath however and are very hot in warm weather. Frog Toggs are fine esp in warm weather as they breath, but don't stay down on your lower legs/ feet as well. Not uncommon for my jeans right above my boots to get moist. The boot straps need improvement. Just as a FYI, Frog Toggs makes motorcycle specific models which have the boot straps, reflective piping, and I think better flap closure over front zipper. Mine also have the bright yellow on sleeves for better visibility. If your buying the cheaper ones that are not designed for motorcycles, that's fine and your choice, but might be why they are leaking. Just saying....

I just received mine this week. Looks the same, but haven't had them cut yet. Paid $1.60 each from china and only took 9 days to get them.

If your filter socket uses a ratchet, you might try a breaker bar instead. I know with my filter socket, that works better. Sometimes I also put the socket on the filter, then put the break bar in the socket.

Back to your question is price on this high. Several 2012's new on eBay for 16-17k range. Only difference is color. I'ld start with that price as reasonable for new, plus a little more if the dealer is local and you know they have good service. Of course if you like the color on 2013 more then that's fine too.. Just decide how much difference that color is worth to you. Bottom line, buy what you like best and enjoy the ride!!

I agree, have them and they work fine. They also make one for the trunk, both inside and trunk rack. The one that goes in the trunk is actually my favorite bag. Works very well and the one I normally pack in.

I agree the 404's aren't the best, but really not that bad. As long as the date code shows the age is resonable, and the tire looks good, I'ld suggest running this set until its time to change them. After that I run E-3's and like them, over 19k on last rear. Like others have said, Avons are also popular. I suggest you watch air pressures closely to get best mileage. As for windsheild I have a F-4 and like it. Height is total personal preference, but you can see through an F-4. Vents a plus in hot weather, but slight minus in rain as they let moisture go up the backside of the sheild. Another consideration is if you ride single or with a passenger. If someone is with you, taller sheilds help the one in back. You can also keep your existing sheild and change in summer if you like. Very easy to change on the RSV. I also moved from the Roadie to the RSV. On long trips, your going to love the RSV. Enjoy and ride safe..

Actally not a bad idea. To me the thing it does is prove that the bike has a clean title not a salvage title. If the PO totaled the bike, took the insurance payout and bought the bike back, he would still have original title. You won't know about salvage title until you go to DMV to tag it. IF your several states away, not much you can do but admitt you've been had. When looking at a bike, I suggest at least running the vin at the DMV before cash trades hands. Lot better to protect yourself theese days as there are people out there who might not tell the truth.

I've stayed all over and depends on what you want. Would agree the Golden Nugget is very nice and old downtown is good if you want to gamble. Stayed many times at the Hilton Convention center and you can ride the monorail to get up and down the backside of the strip. Not to bad but I think it just changed names. I haven't stayed at the Luxor for a few years, but is actually not bad at all for the price and have great valet service if you have a car. Sits at the end of the strip so more walking. Some of the rooms are showing there age. Was one of my favorites for years and best values, I just get tired of staying in the same place. Mandalay Bay is nice with good pools if you like that. The Hotel right beside it is very nice but to pricey for what you get for me. RIO is nice with big rooms, a little different and they have a no charge bus running to the strip that used to take you to Harrahs. MGM is OK but is very big and just something about it doesn't fit me. I've probably stayed at more then a dozen other places in Vegas and to me bottom line is as long as the room is clean it will work.

Everyone has an opinion on which is the best bike. Only thing that's important is what is right for you. I think both the RSV and RSTD are great bikes. To me a lot has to do with what type of riding you want to do. If you are mainly doing short rides, the TD is great. But when you want to go on a trip, you can't beat the RSV. As mentioned, the front fairing with CB, tunes and trunk make the RSV worth the extra money for long trips. It also has a much better stock seat. As to age of bike, like mentioned, they haven't changed in over 10 years. Sometimes also not a lot of difference in price after they are a few years old. There are bargins out there if you take the time to find them. As for my previous bike, I had a 1700 Roadstar Silverado. This is a great bike and again great for shorter trips. Very low center of gravity and MUCH easier to ride then the RSV. If I were to have a second bike, it would be high on my list. I just didn't like to ride it over about 400 miles a day or I might still have it. I feel better after riding my RSV 650 miles then the Roadie 400 miles in a day. If you are planning on shorter trips and changing bikes in a couple of years, well worth considering if you are worried about your riding skills. Good luck with your search and ride safe.

+1 on the backrest. Also look at leveling links if you can take the increase in the seat height. Very easy install and big difference in low speed handling.

Just a FYI, when they say middle of the sight glass, they mean with the bike straight up and down, not on the side stand. If you center the oil in the sight glass while it is on the sidestand it will be way overfull. I normally put in 3.5 qts which works on mine. -
I wanted a true touring bike with full fairing. Looked at the Goldwing, nice bike, just don't like the way I fit on them. HD's are fine, just not for me. BMW's OK, and if the new K1600 would have been out, maybe, but not the old one. RSV, like the way I fit the bike, looks, way it runs, and value for the $ is so far above the others its hard to believe. After 2 1/2 years on the RSV, I still like it and think it is an unbeatable bike for the money.

Yes Kuryakyn DOES make a RTB controller that is plug and play. Part # 4613. Shows working for 1600 roadie and others. They do not show this for the second gen RSV, but it will work and has been on mine for last 2 years. Lots of threads on this, like adding the 100 led tail light from www.customdynamics.com and led blinkers. Let me know if I can help.

I think you should by a mower and offer to mow their lawn.

Thanks for the reminder. I've also always wanted to see one. Tried for tickets several times with no luck. IF I get selected I would go in a heart beat.

I had a 07 Roadie before my venture. To me, it would depend on what type of riding you do. I loved my Roadie for short rides of say less then 300 or 400 miles. Around town its super. If you want to go on anything longer, the RSV can't be beat. If I currently could justify a second bike, wouldn't hesitate on another Roadie.

I have the Bestem brand found on ebay. Also have trunk and trunk rack bags from same mfg. No issues with them and I really like them. Quality seems fine.

I think my dealer charged me $25 to sync last time. Only thing I had done on that trip so no place to hid any upcharges. Something is definitely wrong with the price from your dealer. It sounds like he doesn't know this bike. Some bikes you have to pull the tank to sync which runs up the cost, but not on this one. Question him if you want to make sure exactly what he's quoting, but don't let him do it for that price. -
Watch out on the 20% OFF coupons. They used to take them on everything, but most now say no good on hyd jacks, air compressors, tool boxes and certain other stuff. Just tried to use one on a new jack and air comp for my son at the local store and they wouldn't let me use it.

Not sure but I see one (#0008) on craigslist in memphis for only $4000. Don't know anything about it, but that seems like a steal if its real and you want one.

My first vote would be for a larger garage itself. Just have a 2 car and not near enough room. Can't add on to the one I have so I guess a new place goes with it.
