That is very nice. I would love to pick up a second Venture sometime and do a similar conversion. I've actually been thinking in doing something in a "dreamcicle" (orange / cream) color format. You did a great job on that bike. I wonder if it would be possible to do it with a removable trunk and rear seat. Hmmmmm....

Keep an eye on ebay too. I see them there on occasion.

Removed all my badges

I got no stinkin' badges... http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/IMG_2871.jpg -
Since I got my 2nd Gen I've been following this topic pretty closely (something about having to replace a $700 part get's my attention). I haven't seen this discussed, but I was wondering if there is any common denominator with the shocks that have failed. Like is it mainly guys that run the max air pressure, minimum air pressure, mostly two up, greater weight load on the bike, etc, etc, etc. It seems odd to me that some go and others don't and if there's something I can do to help keep me in the "don't" category I'd like to do it. Anyway...just random wondering.

I normally prefer a wheel gun because in my little brain, they're a lot more dependable. That being said I carried a Kel-Tec P11 in my front pocket for years. Didn't work that well in jeans, but cargo pants or shorts worked just fine. A 5 shot snub nose 38 with a bobbed hammer would probably my carry weapon of choice now, just make sure it's rated for +P ammo. Every little bit helps. Another thing to keep in mind with a concealed carry weapon is it doesn't necessarily have to fill up your hand like a target or hunting pistol would. You want to be able to hold it well enough to control it, but still it should be small enough to easily conceal.

I don't think it's road salt. It was like this when I bought the bike and I'm sure the PO never had it out when the roads were salted. He's a summer rider. Like I said in the original post, almost all of them I saw when I was shopping for my bike were like this. I'm going to sand the down a bit and shrink wrap them.

My '03 had 40,080 on it when I picked it up. Didn't give it a second thought.

Dang Randy, does mean I need to change your name in my phone too?? And when I've gotten myself in over my head working on something do I have to address you as Mr. Venturous??

I noticed when I was shopping for my RSV that several I saw on the internet had rusted antenna bases, so this must be fairly common. Here is a pic of one of mine and both are pretty rusty. I like the look of the standard antennas so I really don't want to switch to the Firefly's. Has anybody here had any luck replacing or fixing these things? http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/utf-8BSU1HMDAyMTYtMjAxMTAyMTYtMTMxOC5qcGc.jpg

My searching skills may need some work, but I can't find it. Can someone post the instructions on how to do a carb sync on a 2nd Gen. Please keep in mind my mechanical ability is such that the instructions really need to be written in crayon. Thanks!

lowering the seat
elmicko replied to maltesefalcon's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The Canada part makes it tough, but if you can't find anybody up there, Rick Butler does a great job. He really helped me out with my seat, and I'm very Vertically Challenged. I know he has done some Canadian orders, but I believe it's a PIA to get them shipped, but he's pretty cheap for what he does so it may equal out. -
I agree. I've ordered from them several times and have always gotten great service. Always fast shipping and they answer questions.

I wholeheartedly agree that this is a great site and a bunch of really good people. I can't tell you how much I've learned here and honestly how much $money$ it's saved me by being able to do work on my bike myself. If I'm ever off of the Venture, I'm sure I'll still be here enjoying the fun. That being said, check out the Goldwing Road Riders Association. If you haven't heard of them, it is a very good organization. My folks were Chapter Directors when they lived in Wilson, NC and then again when they moved back here. I have several friends that are members and it really is a lot like being a member here. Here's their website. http://www.gwrra.org/

They are all good bikes, but the Blue ones are the best. Just sayin...

Well yeah, but my feet reach the ground on my 2nd Gen...never could get them to do that on my 1st Gen. And 2nd Gens are prettier...just sayin'.

Stebel Nautilus Horn Install
elmicko replied to SilvrT's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Does anyone have pics of where the second horn is hidden in the lowers? I might want to change this one out too. -
You've picked up a nice bike and lately we've been getting more Harley-converts here than Venture riders. It takes a while for that shark nose to grow on you, but a frame mounted faring is a great thing. I wish the 2nd Gens wouldn't have gone to a fork mounted faring, but hey we all need something to complain about.

Cheap Android tablet (Nook Color)
elmicko replied to Midrsv's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
I don't believe that one is actually an Android tablet. It's made by Coby and the Androids are Motorolla. Ebay sites usually add terms like that so they can show up under more searches. BUT, that being said, it does look like a good buy and Colby is one of the better secondary manufacturers. -
Just read the article this morning and it's obvious the guy likes the RSV. He did go on to say that it seemed to be the perfect platform for a trike. Probably the best ink on an RSV that I've seen.
