I've owned a 1st Gen and now I have a 2nd Gen (had both at the same time for a while). When I first got on my 1st Gen the frame mounted faring really freaked me out. I couldn't tell a thing about where the bike was going at parking lot speeds, but it only took a couple of weeks until I didn't notice it any longer. Now the only thing that I (personally) feel that is lacking in my 2nd Gen is the frame mounted faring. Having the faring mounted to the frame just opens up a lot of possibility for personalizing the bike to make it more comfortable for you (mounting accessories, wind protection, etc.).

We need to do one of those rides pretty soon. Call me.

Hi Randy. It's probably the TCI box being too close to the headset cables. You could try running the cable on the other side of your body and see if that gives enough separation from the TCI box to help. The only other choice would be to shield the box, but I have no idea how how you would shield it good enough to eliminate all the interferance.

I put a new windshield on my bike this weekend and took the opportunity to split the faring for the first time. Figured since it's an '03 that all the connectors in there, etc would need some attention. The first surprise was the chrome windshield trim still had all the tabs intact, couldn't believe it after the stories I've read on here. Second surprise was that it was spotless inside, all of the connectors were clean and in great shape. I did hit all of them with a little dielectric grease since I was already in there. Needless to say, I was doing the happy dance.

Exactly why you got my $40 Rick!! I like do-it-yourself projects, but after working the seat on my 1st Gen myself, I was happy to pay you to rework the 2nd Gen seat.

I was wondering the same thing. I've noticed I rarely ever pass another bike that has a happy looking rider.

Saw that on the news this morning Steve. Very happy she's ok. Please let me know if you need anything, even if it's just to get out and get the wind in your face for a little while.

Well since Rotella T6 was all I could find in my neck of the woods, that's what I went with. The bike does seem to be doing just fine on it. A mechanic buddy told me one time that with oil, the most important thing is the change. Be sure you're using quality stuff and change the oil religiously.

Good point. They are a resilient people. The last time they got nuked they came back and took over the auto and electronics industries. Afraid to see what they'll take over this time.

Are you the guy in the black shirt???

Another thing to keep in mind (like you need ANOTHER thing), it's a whole lot easier to control the bike going uphill. So use the uphill parts of the run to have your fun and get a feel for mountain riding. Going downhill, take it easy and concentrate on braking to speed before the curve, taking the best line and being in the correct gear to avoid braking in the curve. Oh and most of all...HAVE FUN and enjoy learning some new skills.

I've started using Firefox a lot lately too. For some reason, it won't keep me logged in. I have to log onto the site every time. That may be the problem you're having.

I've got a buddy that rides a Goldwing trike. He found a handlebar charm that hangs from the end of the throttle side grip. It's on a chain and shaped like an anchor. You pull in the brake lever and hook it with the anchor and bingo - parking brake. Pretty cool.

Boy you're going to get a bunch of different answers. Personally I prefer Dunlop Elite 3's, but my bike has a set of Metzler 880's on it from the previous owner and they aren't bad. I'll use them through this year and buy a set of Elite 3's next spring.- 23 replies

Saw the story on the news this morning and had no idea it was your daughter. I'll definitely be keeping my eyes open in Blountville and Bristol. Praying she is found safe. Call me if you need anything, if you don't still have it, my number is in my profile.

Saw this ad on the motorcycle.com site. Why didn't my RSV come with the matching pet carrier???? http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/Ontario.jpg

I would love to pick up a second bike just to have something to piddle around with in my garage. I like having something to work on. The problem with picking up another bike as a commuter, is I really like having all the storage I have with my RSV. I ride to work a lot and it's nice to have a place to haul my lunch box, store my chaps, jacket and keep a rainsuit for when the weather surprises me. So if I bought a commuter, it would end up weighing as much as my RSV.

Shucks, looks like you can add me to the failed ignition switch list...

I've tackled a lot of service, repairs and mods on this bike and the 1st Gen that I had and I feel like I've done pretty good. However for some reason, I just can't wrap my head around the fix for this one which really concerns me because I don't want to end up stranded. Can anybody spell out for me (preferably in crayon) exactly what I need to do to permanently install the bypass so I don't have to worry about it anymore. I would prefer to do the version that still requires the key to start the bike.
