  1. Heading out to Gatlinburg on the bike a little later today for our fall motorcycle trip. We have 4 couples that make this trip every spring and fall to ride the Dragon and blow off a little steam. If you're in the area and see a blue flame Venture, be sure to say howdy. You all have a great weekend.
  2. LOL...the beverage dispenser was an aftermarket add-on. The garage was pretty cool without it, but if you find yourself with an extra fridge you gotta find something cool to do with it. Besides a lemonade dispenser wouldn't have quite the same flair. The carpet was a lucky find. They remodeled our building at work and that was the old carpet. They're just 3' squares of commercial carpet and it really keeps the dust down in the garage.
  3. I've never gotten to get a close look at the Victory's, but they do appear to be a heck of a nice bike. I did like the Voyager a lot, but when I was finally able to get my hands on one I was a little disappointed in the bags / trunk. They feel pretty flimsy and didn't give me much confidence that they would hold up over time. If you find out different, please let me know because other than that I really like the bike.
  4. I will agree that the engineers that designed and developed the good ol' RSV back in '99 did an amazing job and we've got a bike that still looks and performs with the best of them. However, if these engineers were able to develop something that far ahead of the competition back then, shouldn't they be able to crank out something absolutely amazing by now? Seriously, how many of us have had jobs where the boss told us that what we did last week was so good that we didn't have to try to do anything any better??? I know I've never seen a statement like that on any of my reviews, they always want me to top that great job with something better.
  5. Happy Birthday!!!
  6. The Harley riders you meet out on the road are guys just like us that love bikes. As long as you're on two wheels, they don't give a crap what you ride. The ones that give them all a bad name are the ones you find hanging out at the Harley store every weekend. They didn't buy the bike to ride, they bought it for some image they're trying to uphold. And yep, we all give each other hell over the kind of bike we ride, I really like pokin' the geriatric Gold Wing bunch myself.
  7. I don't have a really big garage, but I like it. Yes, it is carpeted and there's food and beverage close at hand. Take a look. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/Garage1.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/Garage2.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/Garage3.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/Garage4.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/Garage5.jpg
  8. Happy Birthday Old Man!!! I hope Linda takes good care of you today. Hope to see you again soon.
  9. Good Luck Randy. Let me know if you need anything at all.
  10. If you're 1st Gen is anything like the one I had, that is the bolt that makes a new crack in the plastic when you put it back in. Every time I stuck the last bolt from a project in, I found a new crack in the tupperware somewhere.

    horny

The measurements are pretty much the same for both. I have the Wolo Bad Boy and I'm very happy with it. I've heard others say the Stebel is louder, but I don't know that for sure. I know mine is loud as crap!!
  12. Hey Annie!! You look great on that Harley...can't really say as much about the goofy guy on the 1st Gen! HAHAHAHA!!! It was great meeting you two at Venturous' house. Now start working on your next trip back.
  13. I've gotta give another vote for Rick Butler. He worked my pillow-top for me and I can't believe how comfortable it is. I've sat on several different brands of seats on a bunch of different bikes and my Butler-Mod is the best I've tried. And it's a great value for the price.
  14. No matter the season all my favorite meals end with "and a beer". LOL
  15. Very nice looking bike, believe it or not that was the original color of ol' blue. Paint job, goodies and 40,000 miles I got mine for $8k last October. Hope that helps some. I would say anything under $8k would be a pretty good buy.
  16. I've checked out the Kawi Voyager a couple of times and it a beautiful bike and I really like the engine. However, when you start checking out the plastic it doesn't hold a candle to the Harley. The trunk and bag lids actually feel a bit more flimsy than the ones on my RSV. That's one thing I have never been happy with on the Yamahas. That Kawi is a dang good looking bike, though.
  17. I've kinda got a similar project in the back of my mind, but I would like to paint the spokes to match the bike. Does anybody know what kind of paint would be best to use on wheels? If I can get by without clear coating, that would be best.
  18. Linked brakes wouldn't be bad if grabbing the front brake lever activated the front and rear, however I would want the pedal for the rear brake to be unlinked so that I could use rear brake only in those times I'm on a slick surface. I really want fuel injection and a tach. And valves that didn't need adjusting would be wonderful. All in all, though we have a great bike it just really needs some refinements to bring it into the 21'st century. Oh and a redesigned front faring would be great, I'm sorry guys but that thing is fugly. Looks like a big beach ball stuck on the front end. I try to only look at my bike from the side.
  19. Hey Bubber. When I did mine, I didn't have any problem at all with the brake / clutch lines. I did have to reroute the throttle cables to the inside of the fork to get them to work. I'll probably change them out in the future when I get tired of looking at then like that. The only issue I had was where I had lowered the forks in the tree by an inch. The RSTD bar hit the air valves on the top of the forks and broke one off. Wasn't a big deal for me since I have progressive springs in the front, just had to get the right size bolt to plug the holes.
  20. Congratulations!!! Those are awesome bikes and I was strongly considering getting a Valk Tourer when I bought my RSV. They're just very scarce around these parts. Now with a little hard work and some ingenuity you can make it look like this one. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/utf-8BSU1HMDAyNjItMjAxMTA1MDMtMTQ1Ny5qcGc.jpg
  21. One small word of caution on this. If you have lowered the front end by raising the forks in the triple tree, the bars will hit the air valves on the shocks and break the off. Found this out the hard way, but I had converted to Progressive springs so I just got a bolt and plugged the hole.
  22. I like the Harleys. They're good looking bikes and the paint, plastic, chrome, etc. look great. And really, they're priced in the same range as a Venture (yeah you can buy one that's a HE## of a lot more expensive if you want to, but apples to apples features they're about the same). I stopped in a local Harley shop recently to get a pair of jeans (GREAT jeans for the money btw) and was looking at an Road Glide and an Electra Glide. One thing that really stuck out to me was when I opened the trunk and side bags. Those things are built very solid, the trunk felt like I was opening the trunk on a car. Very impressive. One thing that does concern me about them though, and I would really like to get some good info on this instead of the standard Harley bashing, is how frequently I'm hearing about guys having to rebuild the engines on these things. Is there a reason for this??? I know they're not water cooled, but they do use an oil cooler which helps a lot over just air cooling. When it finally comes time to replace the Venture or maybe just add another bike to the stable I would have to give a Harley a serious look. I'm just concerned about the whole engine rebuilding thing. I know there are several on here that have Ultra's, can anybody give me any information on this? Thanks.
  23. If you end up in Dandridge with nothing to do, give me a shout. I'm only about 45 minutes away, we can hook up. My number is 423-676-6328 and it's also in my profile. Have a safe trip! Mick
  24. My bike currently has the Metzler 880's on in and I have no complaints. They were on the bike when I bought it last fall and I've put about 5000 miles on it so far. That being said, when I buy new tires in the spring I'm going with Elite 3's because I was really happy with the set I had on my 1st Gen.
  25. Did anyone else notice that the fixed the bikes first, then the airconditioner and THEN the washing machine. You gotta respect a man who has his priorities in order!!! Glad you got it all worked out.
