Reminds me of this guy I met at the DMV when my daughter was getting her driver's license. He was quite colorful too. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/utf-8BSU1HMDAyNjItMjAxMTA1MDMtMTQ1Ny5qcGc.jpg

I'm not saying I would leave the site, but who's going to drive to my house and show me how to write a check??? I can't remember the last time I wrote one.

Heck with the big blonde, just hang on to the bike!!! I hope everything works out for you, I've been through tough times and I know they can be scary. You've got a good group of folks here you can lean on at any time. Best wishes and may the good lord be with you.

Probably just afraid one of those ugly 1st Gens would scare the baby.

They both look like they're in pretty good shape to me. Congratulations!

I have never heard of anything like that on our bikes. It might me a good idea to check out the grounds going to the starter and make sure that it's all good there, but other than that I'm clueless.

Ok so Im beating a dead horse. But Im ready to upgrade my seat
elmicko replied to muaymendez1's topic in Watering Hole
I'm sort of a small guy about 5'6" and 185 lbs. Didn't care that much for my stock pillow-top seat when I bought the bike, so I sent it to Rick Butler to work his magic. I never felt any butt burn with the stock seat, it just never felt comfortable. After getting it back from Rick, I can ride all day with no issues. Actually the only shortcoming I've found with the seat is on hot day's it's warm and the ol' butt sweats a bit. This is only a minor complaint and probably the only way to address it is switching to a cloth seat, and I'm not interested in doing that. -
I rocked one of those babys too. The plan I had gave me 30 minutes of call time each month. I don't think I ever went over either, the dang phone was so heavy you're arm would give out before you ran out of time.

Great looking bike!!! I would love to get another Venture and do it in solo dress, but I've still gotta keep one that mamma can do the backseat driving on.

I agree that it probably wouldn't be a good idea to move to an "all bikes" forum because just "motorcycling" is a bit broad to keep most peoples attention. However, they'll probably come a day when a significant number of us decide to move to different bikes because it's obvious that Yamaha isn't as devoted to the Venture as the rest of us. At that time we'll need to look for a common focus to keep this family together, and who knows an interest in Victorys may be it. So hang around, you just might become a pioneer. LOL

Sorry to hear this Randy, Glenda and I will be happy to do anything that we can for you. Keep your head up buddy.

Enjoy your new ride, I made the jump from a 1st Gen to a 2nd Gen exactly 1 year ago and I haven't regretted it at all. My 2nd Gen is the most comfortable bike I've ever rode. One thing about the pipes, I'm not really into overly loud but I have noticed that if I have to ride through busy around town traffic the fact that the cars beside me can hear me helps them remember I'm there. I honestly feel like the cars are less likely to pull over on me if they can hear me. In busy traffic, sometimes it's impossible to stay out of their blind spot. Sure is a nice bike and red is almost as fast as blue.

Not going to try to tell you what kind of protective gear to wear, but you better be wearing your fur-lined bloomers. It's going to be a bit nippy!

fork oil or springs??
elmicko replied to Kregerdoodle's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
For what it's worth, I replaced my front springs with Progressives this summer along with 10 wt fork oil and I'm VERY happy with the results. Mine is an '03 and it was diving a bit under breaking and "floating" after going across a good bump before the change. All is good now. -
My long-legged wife came in handy a LOT on my 1st Gen. Any time she saw me struggling, she would slide down on the seat behind me and put a foot down. Saved my tail on a bunch of occasions. The 2nd Gen doesn't try to go over on me near as bad as the 1st Gen did. One of these days I'm going to have to grow some legs to make things easier on me.

Honestly, I have nothing against a wing. I've got a few buddies that ride them and they are great bikes, but they're not for me. I know a RSV looks like a 50 year old bike, but that's exactly what I like about it. When I was a kid and fell in love with motorcycles that was the look and that's still the look that appeals to me the most. I know Ol' Blue ain't the fastest bike out there, but it's plenty fast enough for me. Besides, I'm not a speed junkie, that's why I drive a pickup and not a corvette.

Most of the ride was very nice with temps in the high 40's, but when we started over the mountain between Cherokee and Gatlinburg the temperature dropped drastically. I don't have a thermometer on the bike, but it was high 30's with wet, low hanging clouds. I do a LOT of outdoor activities in cold weather, but I've never been as cold as I was the last hour and a half of that ride. BBRRRRRR!!!!!

I am, by no means an expert on shocks (motorcycle or auto), but it just seems odd to me that there aren't more alternatives for shocks to fit our bikes. I mean really, shouldn't it just be load capacity and distance between mounting points on the bike?? Where is my limited understanding falling off course?

LA Choppers Slip Ons
elmicko replied to cipher1300's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If you decide to part with them, shoot me an IM. If they're loud enough to keep the wife from chit chatting, I may just be a buyer. LOL Either way, let me know if you do decide to sell them. Thanks!
