  1. I don't like the look of the storage pouches on my VR, but I'm having a hard time thinking of anything to replace them with. Has anybody here installed any kind of different storage compartment where the pouches are?
  2. I love the sound of a V-Twin, but there's something about that V4 that just turns me on. Could be because I grew up on bikes with a V4 configuration or it could be because it kinda reminds me of the sound of a hot rod car. I dunno, but I would much rather have the V4 over the twin any day.
  3. I changed the oil in my 86 MKII a few months ago and it held 3 1/2. After riding it for a while it wanted the other 1/2 qt. Not sure why, it's not burning oil and it's not leaking anywhere.
  4. Did I mention that this really ticks me off???
  5. Happened for the first time today. Went out for a ride with almost a full tank of gas, look down and the warning light is on and it's showing empty. I eased it for another few miles to the next station with my butt sucking a hickey on the seat because I didn't know if the gage went out or if I had a leak and was actually out of gas. Filled up and it only held about 1 1/2 gallons, rode about another 150 miles and the gage would go from showing completely full to bone dry empty and back again. Filled up a few miles from home and I had only ran out another 1/2 tank or so. Where do I start to fix this blasted thing???
  6. That hesitation between when I hit the start button and when the thing actually turns over is driving me freaking nuts!!! Will stepping up to a gel battery take care of it?
  7. Glad you had a good ride Randy. Glenda and I took off with my neighbor and we took 421 over to Shady Valley, cut back to Damascus and then went up the mountain to Chilhowee. Then back down Lee Highway to Bristol. All in all about 190 miles. Awesome day.
  8. I came across this place on ebay and they have a bunch of Yamaha RSV, RSTD and V-Star t-shirts. Didn't have any for a 1st gen, but I thought you other guys might be interested. http://shop.ebay.com/allcustomapparel/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=
  9. That's the problem buddy. Norton is such resource hog, it's using up all your available RAM to run and the computer doesn't have anything left to run programs or open internet sites.
  10. There is also a chance that the switches, etc are dirty. Get some good electrical contact cleaner and spray around each of the buttons and knobs on the front (but unplug the thing first). After you spray each button and knob, turn the knob a few times or push the button a few times to help clean out the gunk. I would do the speaker thing mentioned above first, and then try this.
  11. It's by no means a bargain, but if you're a die hard first gen guy and pick up a bike like this, it may be smart. You'll have a first gen that'll easily give you another 10 years. Might not be a bad thought. Most of us even with really nice 1st gens are putting some cash into them every year to keep them on the road. Something to think about.
  12. If it's been modified, they did a heck of a job. Both antenna mounts look exactly the same. I dunno, but I would like to have some shorter antenna's. I'm getting tired of taking these off every time I want to put the bike in the lower garage.
  13. You're in East Tennessee, bud. Spring just means that on the days it doesn't rain, it snows.
  14. HA!!! Both of mine have the black thing in the middle. Do I have two CB antennas???
  15. The antennas have been off of my bike several times both before and after I bought it. I can't tell a bit of difference in the two antennas, so how do I know if the right one is in the right spot????
  16. Any word on when these will be ready to ship? I need an excuse to take my bike apart again!!!!

Just be sure you spend some time sitting on the bike. I looked at one at my local dealer and my 30" inseam wouldn't come close to touching the ground.
  18. You do realize that a 125 pound rider would have a heck of a time holding up an 800 pound bike. Right?
  19. I've got a trip scheduled in May to go ride the Dragon.
  20. I would like an answer to this one as well.
  21. Yeah that on the 1st gen thing. I'd like to have a set for mine.
