  1. Many Guys have mounted them there, I have mounted one on my buddy's RSV with no prob 3000 miles later. The major problem is location of relay. Water can damage the relay rendering it useless in a time of need. The chrome on your pipes are actually heat shields and dont put out enough heat to meat that hard ABS plastic. Thinner rain suit material is completely different. Dont ask me how I know!!
  2. I have never been a road captain but have lead a few rides. i will not move into a lane until i am certain it is clear either because of lack of cars or because the sweep rider has cleared it for me. Today was full of riders trying to get around becasue the leader changed lanes while cars were right behind. Another big thing is on a 2 lane rd . Sign says right lane ends in 200 ft. Why not start your change or singnal early and allow sweep to clear the lane. Again another hairy situation I did not like. i will take your word for it and try 1 more chapter before making a definitive decision. SOLODADOF2. i see your point but I disagree that it is a positive that another was able to lead a group when there are new rds and new riders in the group. that is a a poor decision on part of all the members. Sorry for my rant but as the day gets longer and I keep replaying the day in my mind, I get angrier realizing that some thinsg may have worse outcomes. Glad im ok and hope those guys the best in the future.
  3. Did not have a possitive day. The meeting went on way too long and ride started too late. Led by an older lady which looked very unsteady on her bike, dropping her foot on slow turns to keep from dropping. Stopped on a hwy median to then pull out into 65 mph traffic. turn signals seconds before a turn as if she wasnt sure the turn was the right one tioll the last moment. Stopped by a bar rest and I couldnt afford anything on the menu. I finnaly got up and excused my self, lost away from home took me 45 min to find my way home once I did i did the best riding I have ever done. Great scenic ride though familiar and unfamiliar territory in my state. Sorry i went on this venture, but glad that at least I know what its like.
  4. the main concer as with any orther group is that I dont think i have adquate time to devote. i am a 31 year odl father of 4 working 70 hours and the only provider at home. This means I value the few times I get to ride.I wasnt looking to join anything but I met a cool guy who has invited me to sit in on tommorows meeting and go along for the ride.
  5. I did mine and it made the idle rougher and when i resynched the carbs 3 months later due to surgng the synch was way off. i plugged them back up and all is fine. No difference in milage though.
  6. I dont remember my toe shifter having any sandpaper or grease on it. My boots look awesome as well. What is this strange phenomenon of people losing thier boots due to toe shifting. Do they dissapear, do they shrink or disintegrate. does marvin come down from space and shoot it with his dilithium space modulator??
  7. Well i will give it a shot and see how it goes. I hang out with the HOG riders now as a guest and cannot be a member for the obvious reason but Star touring diddnt as me the type of bike and the guy inviting me rides a harley ultra.
  8. Hey condor thanks for the compliment on the shifter. Now I would like to know if anyone has measured the distance between both shifter pegs. Mine was about 13 or 14 inches which doesnt leave much room to wigggle a size 12 boot. Size 12 is inside length. My buddy has a 99rsv and his heel peg is further back although he doesnt use the heel either. I had a goldwing and I found that I shifted extremely hard with the heel shifter and just like a little more control of the toe. The only thing I miss is when the engine is hot and finding neutral is a pain( the heel peg came in handy to slap it into neutral)
  9. I will be attending my first meeting sunday to see If I belong there as well. Id like to hear more from members and also any negatives if thre are any.
  10. I dont know if we are on the same page. By ultimate do you mean harley ultra? if not can you please elaborate. As said earlier if this doesnt work then I still need to research for tax season when I can afford anew seat.
  11. I agree but I feel even orse because there is no option for the 96 and 97 royal star classics. Theshock works in reverse too what a regular shock does. I cant tell if I definetly have a bad shock but the ride is terrible over poyholes. The whole bike shudders The only time you feel it absord is on long wavy bumps which feel ok on a rigid frame. Only 31 k on mine and there is no leaks and the ahock is a sealed unit and cannot be worked on. I feel like having a custom bike shop weld braces for regular fender to swing arm struts. But I know I may as well buy another bike at that point. I dont want to reinvent the wheel
  12. My buddy. a Harley follower has had 5 electra Glides in the past 20 years and he raves about the police special he has now. Its a wide solo seat with lots of cushion and rides on an air bladder. Almost like a springer seat. Thats was also an Idea but this will put the seat higher. If it doesnt feel any different the I hope I can sell it forward and regain my money. If i cant find a solution by tax season I ill be forced to spend upwards of 800 for the russel Day long
  13. Couldnt find any info on this. my seat is just way too uncomfoprtable after many attempts at repairing and adding foam. I found a nice pillow top electra glide seat that I have purchased . Waiting for it to arrive so I can modify it to fit.
  14. I have searched Hagon and Works and neither one carries a replacement.
  15. So my fathe rin law ( 76 shovel head rider) took my bike out for a lil while and he has a few comlaints which I myself have had in the past. the royal star rides a bit rough. having a monoshock with no spring gives the bumps a very jarring effect. he even noticed that the forks were riding rough. I think i am correct that there is no adjustment for the forks. This is the royal star tour classic 96 and there is no way to add air nor have I heard of anyone changing the fork fluid or replacing the rear shock with after market or another bike swap. Has anyone changed thier fluid or the rear shock on this type of bike. i thought It was due to my size but my father in law is 200 lbs lighter than me and he also notices it.
  16. So i keep my bike outside due to no garage or shed. In the winter I will be keeping it under the cover all week till my polar bear rides on sundays. I have noticed a few problems and wonder if anything is serious. My starter button needs to be hit a few times before it angages. no click . its just that the switch. i will dissasemble and clean and lube. the front wheel has been making a lobing squeak. noticeable at a gas station when doing 5 MPH squeak squeak squeak. faster as I go faster. i didnt think anything of it until I got into a heavy lean last night where I didnt want to accelerate anymore and I heard no squeaking but an undescribeable sound comming from the wheel when I turned right. Could this be my wheel bearings going or do they need to be lubed. There was less noise when leaning to the left and nothing when going straight down the road except for the SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK
  17. I have the royal start tour clasic which has the 4 exhaust pipes. I have been pndering trying to chage them out for the 2 pipes. one on each side. The reason I have been thinking about this is that my bags are pretty small in comparisson and would like to get larger hard bags. Any IDEARRRRRS!!!
  18. Come on guys for a limited time you can have my water front property. It will be water front property in 10 hours so act now. These are picturess of the lovely fishing town in 2007 . Its a steal and will only last this weekend so jump on it ow!! http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh221/muaymendez/DSCF1946.jpg
  19. I let them ramble on for a while then tell them that Im blind and my seeing eye dog must interpret the call for me. Hold on ill put ziggy on. ZIggy Ziggy . Where the hell are you you damn mutt. Jeeze i think the dog is dead again , Please hold while I fetch her for you. then I make some racket like I fell . OH JESUS MARY, MARY CHRIST, OH LORD SAVETH ME . OUCH I THINK MY LEG IS BROKEN . OH SATAN KENMOORE,WHIRLPOOL!!!!!
  20. The liquid you are reffering to is called DOPE. Dope is still sold in alrge quantities for repair of larger wooden aircraft. Piper cubs and the like. the liquid shrink silk span and create a water barrier. It is hard to find But I was able to find A 5 ounce container of it that is collecting dust on my shelf. I am not sure if i can be shipped because it is flamable although there are no warning labels on it.
  21. I think Norvel still makes heads that fit. Is COX out of buisness. I started my controling and then moved on to foamies 2 channel. i topped once It got more expensive. Last i was reading about it was beginnin of this year and read tha some other companies still make or have surpluss. good luck. By the way. waht are you flying. CL or radio Control?
  22. so i tried moving the mixture (pilot) screws out a full turn. If felt a little better but on number # carb thats the end of the line. the screw wont back out anymore. My initial feeling was that the choking when blipping the throttle wasnt as pronounced and 3 times I let the bike cool and she was able to start with no choke. Today I will be going on a simple ride 4o miles and this should give me a better idea. p.s. I have the larger pilot jets on order .
  23. No way. if you run 5 psi fornt and back tires you wouldnt need a side stand. this is how these stunt riders are able to do all these slow speed maneuvers . so if you want to stay in th parking lot 5 psi is that way to go.
  24. An experienced shop wou,dnt give you excuses. Wha they hae to do is pop the tire off. Hit the bead of the rim with a brass wire wheel. The reinstall the tire using a water soluable lubricant. many shops will use soapy water not realizing that the alkali ( I hope I spelled it correct)in the soap is like an acid to aluminum. And will pit the surface allowing air to ezcape. Some shops will mount the tire. Then dry the bead and apply vulcanizing rubber it it before seating the bead. I had a shop do the exact thing to my camaro rim and 2 weeks later it was flat again. I complained for ten minutes as the tire guy searched for the leak. I asked him how long he had been doing tires and that this was no way of doing buissness.......as he pulled a drywall screw from my tire. Good luck
  25. so i ordered the larger pilot jets but just needed to see if I could find the screws and do the idle drop test to see if any of the pilots would not make a difference in rpm when turning them in. They all worked and it seemed that they were turned just about 2 1/2 turns from seated. i turned them out 1 full turn and re synched the carbs. they were off a bit. Felt better but tommorow morning will be the real test when starting from cold. how many turns out worked for you, did you eventually go with the larger pilots. with the larger pilots what setting should I used. how many turns out?
