  1. I wasnt being picky, I was trying to answer the thought of a carb heater. My seup is a lil different and there is no cab heater. So how exactlt is installing a propane torch by my wheel well gonna solve this issue?. Ill give it a shot, should I duct tape it to the pipes?.
  2. No they ar different. Idle screw is on left, Seafoam has been used about 3 cansall summer, and new plugs installed 3k miles ago. This is the way it was last year lots updated but no change.
  3. ok so i ahad this situatino last year with bike not warming up well. Warm wweather started and bike runs like a champ. Synched and idled correctly atill had popping on decel. tried the mixture screws with the idle drop procedure and all pilots acted as if they were clean. Now first cold day and 4 miles before she warms up completely. I start her on full chole and high odle for 1 minute then let her low idle for 2 start pulling off on half choke and she starts coughing and spitting and I have to feather the clutch manytimes to keep her from stalling. What is wrong here?
  4. I guess your burble can be my ruble rubble. On decel especially comming down hill I ill hear popping and many times it will get loud enough that lead andfollowing riders hear it. My 96 shadow had this happen hen i put on cobra straight pipes and I know the bike shouldnt do that. Went to a local shop had it dynoed and rejetted. no more after burn ( burble) ( rummble) (Burp) ( Pop) this was when i was richer and had less bills. I cant afford nor do I want to have a shop touch my bike. Another site I vist had a post here a guy got larger pilot jets and it cured not only the popping but the cold b,loodedness of thebeast. i now have those jets in my dresser waiting to get installed. They have been waiting 2 months
  5. Mike Lets also point out that with practice you get better but failing to continue these manuevers will deteriorate your skill. I was gragginf boards in the summer with any U Turn. I thought I mastered it. and jut the other day walked my bike to make a uturn. I have to go back to the school parking lot and get more practice in
  6. I got lost in the woods with no signsor sense of direction. No phone signal I was kicking myself for leaving my gps on my nightstand. Thi was a great clear day and although being lost was a pain, the ride as a grea time. I can imagine how upset I would be if it were raining. GPS or Smart Phone can fail at anytime. A good old fashioned road map will never have to update, or search for a signal. I love my smart phone and love my GPS but I must have al 3 with me .
  7. I have wondered if the forks trick will work on my 96TC. I can loosen the pinch bolts and drop the trees placement on the fork. may have to give that a try
  8. Athough max air i the tires will give best handlingit will also be the roughest ride. Trying to find a happy medium is tough. Lets think of it in terms of a unicycle. If you where cruising along even at 2 miles and hour and you hit brakes on a unicycle it will fall top ove in the direction the wheel is headed. Put an arm behind it as sme biks in the 20 the same will happen and the front wheel becomes a fulcrum. Put an arm in front of it( it is now a rear tire) and applying the brake will cause down ward pressure on the front wheel applying more traction. sport bike racers dont jam on the front brake because the immediate change in traction will cause the fron wheel to lock up. In contrast what they do is lightly apply break and steadily aplly more pressure causeinfg th weight transfer to add more weight and more traction to the front wheel. This i why applying light rear brake feels like it wants to keep the bike up right. and the front brake makes you wanna get close up with the asphalt.
  9. So I have been growing tired of looking at my weathred old studs. Not pretty. bike looks good from far. Takingoff the studs will leave stud holes so Im pondering how to cover or dress up. I hjut ordered some leather laces lets see hat I can come up with.
  10. Wow. This thread makes me anna go through my bike with a fine tooth comb. i also have been getting the popping but after talk with several new venture owners with the same prob I put it off as nature of the beast. I have the 96 rstc and it has after market pipes put on by PO. The vacuum cas have been replaced and th mixture screws urned in and out. still popping on decel. I have seen minor cracks on therubber connection from carb to head I think that wll be the first to get replaced.
  11. I have used gauntlet gloves but below 40 the wind just cuts in, i installed grip warmers last season and the heat on the palms flows thoughout the glove keeping your hands bearable but the heating element started distorting the throttle sleeve so I ditched those. I have layered my legs and still manage to get a draft, i will try some of the suggestions here but I m still pondering where to spedn my cash this week. i dont want to overload my circuit so a full heated suit is out. I would rather have a heated vest and get some insulated windproof gloves and maybe a set of chaps. the one major thing ilearned from riding 5 winters is .Once you develop a chill "ITS OVER JOHNNY":fiddle:. I have a mesh jacket that I use with its rainproof liner and lots of layers underneath and that works until I start really riding and my body begins to perspire, then comes the chill and nothing can shake it even a hot shower and a cup of coffee.
  12. I have thought of the disposable glove thing but after wearing a ran jacket then building up moisture and almost freezing to death on the way home I ditched the idea. I would think that latex gloves will make your hands sweat and create and easier mode to cool off.
  13. I have not seen a post like this so I would like to start it. Lets share our tips and tricks for staying warm and give our advice on hat gear nd combination work. I am tiredof riding winters where 3 hours are fine but getting back home is mysery. My hands are exposed. Will I need wind guards to go with heated gloves or will heated gloves work plenty. I have no lowers, will chaps be plenty to keep my long john and fleeced legs warm. I have always felt cold legs but Im sure it because of the wind. I hope this thread gets some action.
  14. I have too seen the extensions and wondered what if any difference do they make. They allow you to move your feet inches from the floorboard. I didnt think it was much different. WOuld love to hear from those who have it . there is also someone on this board who used some alumini um bar stock and made his own by bolting the stock to the bottom of the floorboard and at the tip he used a nut and bolt. for being able to hook your foot onto.
  15. If anyone has stock mirrors they would be willing to sell for a few bucks I am interested. I have custom mirrors added on my PO and they are way smaller than the venture mirrors. I rode my friends venture and the difference was night and day. I rather have funtion than style . Although i must say my mirrors are rather striking.
  16. On my 84 gl1200 I did the same and on my 83 gl1100 i desiced to cyut from the bottom and I was very happy. i cut 2 inches off the bottom , but then had to make the mounting holes in a higher position and the slots had to be made longer.
  17. I remember reading here that someone didnt line up the diskes correctly and he also had the jerking when going in to gear. I bet that is what solved your problem with jerking into first. I have been pndering doing the upgrade as I did it for my buddy and it was no hard task but I am having no problems yet. i did have some slipping just after my oil change but being a procrastinator I waited and the problem worked itself out. Last time I use valvoline Motorcycle oil. the oil is still in there but I think it needed a wear in period.
  18. I am not sure how long you have had the bike. Many will just get used to it. It took me 1000 miles to feel comfy on her. Although i have the rstc and it is less top heavy. there is talk here about leveling links and also rising the front of the forks and many say this helps. i felt my bike was way too low anyway so I raised it 1/2 inch and every ow and again I will hear a scrape.Mostly when I am leaning away from the turn( bad form) or making a left and getting on the right side of the road . the crown on the road makes me scrape. Usually the floorboards will touch down but I have flat spots on my mufflers which let others know tat I am no candy ass. LOL Someone with more info will be around
  19. My TC has studs but its studded for her pleasure.REALLY. She thinks Its pretty!!
  20. Driving a truck is my living. 2 of the keys I live by are" know your surroundings and leave yourself an out.The shoulder was open and it allowed you safe exit. Great quick thinking. Too easy to be amonday morning Quarterback. GLAD U R WELL

  23. No Star Touring is internationa,l. update I contacted another chapter by email. I was told to plase have a talk with the president because the chapterin question never exhibits this type of behavior. I received a pleasant call from the president of the chapter in question and he was ok with me looking for another chapter but wanted insightas to what happened because he wanted it to stop. he wouldnt stand for any unsafe behaivior. Afyer our conversation he welcomed me to search another chapter but also asked if I could give them one more chance to redeem themseklves. The leader of that ride never leads and in his opinion.....ell I rather just leave it at that. I will attend a different chapter meeting and ride an d again with the chapter in question. even if I choose not to link up with them I would like achance too se if they are different. Jose
  24. Thanks . I am gonna give this $20 ultra classic seat and if still no good I go with my original pla, buying a russel or ultimate in february.
  25. I have always thought of the lubricant properties of these additives. Gasoline is not a frictuion modifier so the top end always has the most friction. Adding marvel or seafom should technically lubricate the combusting side of the engine. Valves top piston rings, etc
