The cables could be made to any practical configuration. I need a make unique set for my 86 as the battery is being moved to the right saddlebag. The coils, OEM TCI, and fuse panel are being scrapped. This leaves a nice big hole for the Ignitech, coil over plugs and a marine style fuse panel. I will measure the OEM cables and figure a price for fabrication. I may make a set and post a picture or two for your consideration. I am not planning to order 200 feet of cable and 50 or so terminals if there is not enough interest to reach the break even point. I would estimate that a 3 foot cable, with lugs and a #10 pigtail, would be about $20.00, with shipping to anywhere in the lower 48. Add or subtract about $3.50 for each foot in length.

I believe that I have found all the necessary items to fabricate the cables. They would be made from 4 ga welding cable, crimped and soldered terminals. Terminal to cable attachments covered with adhesive lined heat shrink tubing. The initial investment would be near $500.00 to obtain bulk pricing. This would be 200 feet of cable and an assortment of connectors. The cable would be available in red and black with terminal lug ID's from #10 to 3/8 in. I have a spare set of Gen I MK II cables for samples. Others would need to have specs provided. Any length and configuration could be made available, within the limits of the materials available, as described above.

If you were in the same gear, as when you were doing 40 mph, you would have been doing approximately 62 mph at 6500 rpm. -
Gary, Thanks, for the explanation. I think that the double pickup will work just fine, for me!!!! My bike has been down long enough with all the other fixes and modifications, that are planned. You have taken "custom" to another level.

Motor has rotor & single pickup from RSV with a sprauge style starter clutch. Use of rotor is made possible by Ignitech TCI as rotor lobe pattern is different from 1st gens. I didn't want to use an RSV TCI, nuff said about that. Gary, What is needed to convert a MKII to the single pickup? Will the Ignitech most of us have work for this conversion? I am using one of Dano's modified rotors now. Would or could this work with a single pickup?

I installed SpyBot on my computer a year or so ago. I found the program to be extremely intrusive and controlling. I suspected it of deleting or quarantining some necessary files that caused problems. My final decision was to uninstall the entire program, replace the missing files and have had no further trouble of that nature. You need to be very familiar with the file structure of your machine and the registry hierarchy to properly control this program. There are other "computer cleaning and repair" programs that will delete shared files and "suspicious" entries causing problems. I have successfully been using Norton 360 and System Mechanic for several years without difficulty. SpyBot seemed to be too aggressive when making registry changes and identifying programs as malware. My suggestion would be to uninstall as much of the program as possible. Revo Uninstall is a shareware program that will clean out most of the lingering registry entries that remain after the program self uninstall. Be careful when selecting the depth of the registry inspection. The medium setting has proven to be the most effective with low risk. Good luck with whatever choice you make.

I have a few alterations to make to my 86 and would like to complete them as effectively as possible. I guess a list of tasks would be the easiest way to explain everything that needs completed. Rebuild carburetors Install Vmax heads Replace starter with 4 pole Install modified starter clutch Install upgraded stator Replace gear selection pickup Install new R/R Install new TCI Install Barnett clutch assembly Would it be best to remove the motor to the bench and go from there?

Tragedy in Conn.

There is no possible way that I could imagine the grief that is collectively felt by the people of that community. I would pray that they receive the guidance and comfort that they so desperately need. Equally unimaginable is what possessed the young man to perform such a despicable deed. The deliberate action to cause as much pain as possible, to as many as possible, should be a thought that is beyond any consideration. We are a country heavy with the burden of way too many of these incidents. Lord, please grant us the wisdom to discern the path for us to take in avoidance of the evil that lurks in the soul of mankind. Pray for those that grieve, pray for us all. -
Let's see, found the source of the actual problem, properly diagnosed the issue, spec'd the proper replacement parts, correctly installed same with great results!!! Doesn't sound too bad to my way of thinking. Persistence, perseverance, accumulation of knowledge, modified procedures to obtain different results. I fail to see any hint of idiocy in the process. I certainly would be willing to take any advice that you would be willing to offer. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

If you find a source of the tool to remove the pistons from the R1's, please don't keep it a secret. I have a set for my winter projects and would like to disassemble and rebuild.

The front calipers sets are the same. The left calipers are different than the right. The piston diameters are smaller on the left. I don't believe the left front gets as much use as the right when in the normal linked setup. My left front was a bugger to disassemble as the pistons were really stuck. Wedging blocks of wood between piston faces and using a grease gun for pressure finally freed the units. Had to replace a couple pistons that were pitted badly. The right was not nearly the trouble. If you have de-linked the front and rear calipers there should be a noticeable difference in the front stopping power. I did the whole shoot'n match last winter. Installed skydock17's de-linking kit, completely rebuilt the calipers and installed new EBC pads. The "bite" is now much improved and I would do it again without hesitation. Both calipers will push fluid with the same gusto when working properly. I did have have issues with the master cylinder pumping up properly when the lines and calipers were full of air. Speed bleeders were some of the problem as one was bad and would allow air to reenter the caliper during each cycle. I replaced the faulty bleeder and still no luck. Rebuilt the master cylinder and no luck. Was about to shoot myself for getting involved in the mess. Came down a day or two later and the brake lever was stiff and was able to bleed everything without further problems and have had no troubles since. The tiny hole in the bore of the master cylinder that vents into the reservoir may have been plugged or some tiny bubbles may have been in the wine. I have heard some say that a rubber band holding lever over night works to vent bubbles from the system. I can't explain the process but the time sitting seemed to do the trick for whatever reason. The final result was almost worth the extra gray hairs. Well if I had any hair.

I have installed the Vmax gears in my 86 for the performance boost to lug my sidecar. The need to downshift was reduced and fifth is usable. I don't believe that my mileage suffered noticeably and may have improved slightly. The car fully loaded is in the 500 lb. neighborhood and can be a bugger on the hills that we have here. If I were in a position to do the swap again, I would not hesitate. -

I have: A starter clutch from Dano A stator and regulator from Earl R1 calipers from ebay Rear braided brake line from Earl Vented windshield from ebay Spare set of carbs for a complete rebuild and replacement New TCI coming from Dingy Fuse box rewire Fiberglass, electrical and mechanical work to complete on the sidecar I hope to have a reliable rig for next spring. Good Lord will'n and the creek don't rise. -
