  1. Well took my bike out for about a 150 mile ride temp gauge never went over 1/2 way when it used to be near the top of the green. Temps in the 80's here.
  2. Are you SURE the needles and jets were the SAME as your stock ones? Guys can rejet their carbs for various reasons and this might be the case? I was thinking same thing.
  3. 5 turns seems like a big amount. These bikes usually dog out if the cover is off. Almost sounds like too much fuel.
  4. There is no kit specific parts only.
  5. I just put this switch in and the fan does come on much faster then it did before. I havent got a good ride with it yet for temp comparisons. Just idling and synchronizing now. You do have to cut off the connector and put spades on the ends but it works fine screws right in.
  6. Ok Ill do it. Did the flasher multiple time and the hazard connector also. I get the rears to work on hazard so Im thinking its the turn flasher thats gone out. Yea they aint cheap either. It worked before I sprayed it. I wonder if I powered it up while still wet and shorted it out. I did have one bulb that was sort of dim for a short time and flashed out of sequence but it seems nornmal now. Ill try replacing the bulbs also. Thanks for your help.
  7. I gotta admit I not the best with electrical I measured resistance not even sure I was doing right I used the black wire and tested every other wire all were infinite except one a brown wire next to the the black. How would I do this George?
  8. Mine was made in 11/89. I did notice with the hazard connector had alot of bluish corrosion in the connector. I sanded the male side down but no real way of doing the female side. I did spray crc on to both. I get a buzzing noise when I use either turn signal not sure what this means.
  9. I have a 1990 which seems to be different then earlier models. When you have the ignition on do the rear signals light up and stay lit like the fronts? It appears the rear are the 1156 bulb and the front is 1157. Tracking down the problem it appears to be the flasher/hazard module. Mine appears to be combined instead of separate like earlier models I was reading about on this web site. I could not find any flasher or cancel unit on the sides of the fairings. I found it at least I think I did right in the middle behind the insturement panel. I heard it making a noise when I put the emergency flashers on the rears did flash (I did not have the flasher switch plugged in earlier) I also heard a shorting noise whenever I put the turn signals on come from this box but they would not work. I wonder when I sprayed the connection I shorted it out because the fluid could get into this unit. This is a picture of the unit.
  10. I'm doing some work on the old bike and have cleaned all the plastic connectors with connection cleaner crc . Now my rear turn signals do not work no light at all no turn flash either. The fronts light up but do not flash for a turn. I do not have power to the rear plastic connectors either side that go to the rear signals. Any ideas where to look maybe a another connector up towards the front? Thanks Jim.
  11. This winter I'm putting in 2nd Gen gear set and a Vmax rear on my 1st Gen already have both aquired. I cruise at 80 alot also dont like the high rpms while cruising. I dont mind them if I'm screwing around though.
  12. You might be able to get away with running a bristle though it without taking the jet out out of the block. I'm not saying this is your problem but it sure sounds like what I went through.
  13. I tried that also even running pure seafoam through the fuel pump into carbs didnt help.
  14. I had similar problem it was my very small pilot jets in the jet block that were plugged part of the idle circuit. It would not idle but would run with throttle open. It would also run with choke on but not off. Seafoam or any cleaner did nothing. I had to disasemble the carbs and pull out the pilot jets in the jet block and unplug them by running a stiff wire bristle from a wire brush through them. (I could feel it as I pushed the wire through a couple of times.) There was a hard crud in them no cleaner was getting out. The pilot jets are soft brass so be careful it you do this especially when unscrewing them. I also replaced the jet block gaskets also. I also replaced the rubber plugs in the jet block because they broke when I tried to remove them. This is what fixed my bike it sat for 3 yrs prior. Hope this helps. Jim.
  15. I would not link them you lose some of your fine control by linking. Sort of dampens your clutch, throttle, rear brake balance/relationship. I think the proportioning valve is a great idea just that little extra safety margin to prevent rear lock up.
  16. When I delinked my bikes brakes I kept the proportioning valve on the rear brake works out pretty nice.
  17. This is the way to go Squidley has a nice set up. I just did this to my bike when my ears were breaking.
  18. Had a similiar problem had spark but wouldnt start. Even starter fluid didnt help. Plugs were fairly new. Nuthin would nt run. Changed the plugs (I used Iridiums) started right up I guess the plugs were fouled somehow but I couldnt tell by looking at them. Now is my ignition weak and the Iridiums with the finer tip overcomes this I dont know.
  19. Did you put the starter clutch parts back in the right way?
  20. This guy usually does them cheaper. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/yamaha-venture-vmax-stator-rebuilt_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35594QQihZ008QQitemZ180141615926QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  21. lt ll be a little yet bit doing some other work new throttle cables, some led brake and turn lights mounted on the trunk so people behind me can see, back off module for the rear headlight modulator for front, and finish mounting the Kawasaki Voyager handle bars.
  22. Well I got the mounts in and tightened had to disconnect the drive shaft to do it but thats ok. Had the collecter inlet pipes redone they were on thier last legs but I got all 6 mounts in and I real glad its done.
  23. So how do you guys like these mufflers? They look pretty nice. I assume its just the slip on muffler part not the collector or pipes off of the engine?
  24. People come up with some pretty good ideas on this site. I like that about this site.
