They are direct for 1986+. Your 1984 has a different set up. You would need to mount a 1986+ lower fork assembly to do it.

Question about TCI's
CrazyHorse replied to bongobobny's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I know the 1990 up are digital and different then the earlier ones. They also use just one pickup instead of 2 in the stator area. -
I have done de-linking. I have also added the R1/R6 front calipers and used the regular R6 pads not the HH models. I kept the standard proportioning valve in its place and hooked the back brake to its standard spot on the proportioning valve. I kept the proportioning valve because I did not want to lock up the rear brake. I disconnected the front left disk brake line from the proportioning valve and plugged it with a I believe a 10mm x 1.25 bolt cut down and used a regular copper brake washer. I have a 1990 so I had a metering valve and bleeder at the top of the frame (yours will not) I took all those out and the brake line to the left front caliper. I then ran a double banjo bolt off of the standard front master cylinder with new stainless steel lines to thier respective front calipers. Some thoughts on its operation. I can not get the rear brake to lock up with this set up even if I raise the height of the brake pedal. I know I have more rear braking capacity before I would ever lock up, which I would like to be able to use. Braking capacity isnt any better then the standard system but I prefer delinked because I have more fine control over the bike. I usually can tell if a bike has linked brakes especially at slow speeds. Now I'm going to try the HH pads in front and see what happens. I may also move the rear line to the front position on the proportiong valve (I dont know what the split is in terms of 40 % to rear 60% front anyone know?) and try that to see if I can get more braking. I have pictures if you want. I'd be interested in knowing about Freebird's proportioning valve that is adjustable I guess. I'd like to be able to fine tune the rear brake more because I know I have more braking force there. I'm just not able to use it though.

I was wondering if these worked in the zumo. I thought there might be a problem in that they are SDHC cards instead of just SD. I thought the format was somehow different.

I have a Guatamalen friend who had a brand new vehicle wanted to drive to his home country through Mexico. He didnt get the Mexican insurance and deep inside Mexico the Police stole his vehicle at gunpoint. He still had to make payments on the vehicle since american insurance would not cover it in Mexico. Many of those Central and South American countries are very corrupt one of my friends who has to travel abroad frequently has to pay for armed security in many of those countries because of kidnapping and ransom concerns. He especially hates going to the Middle East. He doesnt really like to leave the US anymore. I wouldnt go without a gun but they would never let you in the country with one.

This is similiar to the police learning courses. Look where you want to go many riders will crash into objects in a panic situation because they are looking at the object they want to avoid even though there is plent of space either side of the object. ( Many people will also slam on that rear brake and lock it up and lay the bike down. (If you lock the rear MSF says keep it locked I differ in that opinion you can if done quickly and the rear end is not coming around on you, you can release the rear brake quickly and reapply pressure.) Hence linked brakes were designed which I dont like. There is no reason to lay the bike down drive through the situation maintaning control of the bike as long as you can look where you want to go.) I know its hard to do but its gotta happen. This is the reason many people drop thier bikes in this training they look down at the ground in a hard lean turn instead of looking behind them in the direction they are turning. We used fire hose wrapped around the crash bars to avoid scraping up the crash bars. Practicing this stuff you will burn up rear brakes and the clutch faster no doubt about it. But once you get the hang of it learning that relationship between clutch throttle and brake you feel more confident. Yes if you hit that front brake in a slow speed high lean angle turn you will go down dont ask me how I know. You can perform very tight turns but linked brakes lessen this because the front brake is activated also but its still useful stuff even on linked brake bikes. I have not ridden a 2nd gen but its similiar to a Harley Roadking I dont think it more top heavy then a Roadking (Unless you fill the trunk up) Now 1st Gen which I ride is more top heavy.

VMAX Rear for RSV ordered
CrazyHorse replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yea its alot of trouble totally a winter project so I'll have time to do it. Probably go through the motor checking it the specs. Sometimes I tinker to much for my own good. At least I like doing it though. -
Many places dont like to work on bikes more than 10 yrs old even my buddy mechanic friend admitted this. Youll probably be your best mechanic with help from here. Theres alot of good people that know most of the little problems with these bikes probably better then your standard mechanic that doesnt work on these anymore.

VMAX Rear for RSV ordered
CrazyHorse replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a 1st gen and have been thinking bout switching the gear set to a 2nd gen set and vmax rear end (which I already have aquired both) my main goal is mileage I drive 100 miles total to work and back each day. Actual speed (GPS) of 75 mph (indicated 86 mph speedos off) @ 4100 rpm. I also would like a little better off the line response. I think this set up will give me what I'm looking for. I know this will bring my rpms down some but Im wondering if the higher speeds will bring to much wind resistance to really help with mpg. Anyone have any idea? -
It s called high gas prices affecting shipping costs and corn being used for Ethanol. Ethanol plants are sprouting up fast. I think it a way for the government to subsidize farmers in a back door way and start scaling back on the many farmer subsidies that the government provides. The big problem I see with it E85 costs near the same level of regular gas around here but I wont get the same mileage so why would I buy it. Juggler is absoulutely right we can never grow enough corn for fuel or biodiesel.

I dont mean to knock the instructors of MSF. Im sure most are good people but the course is not in depth enough and not enough wheel time. Its a starting point and better then nothing but I think people starting to learn how to ride need alot more training especially wheel time and read every book you can on the subject. Of course this is just my opinion and everyone may not agree with me.

Does anyone know what type of exhaust tempretures at the head the 1st Gens run or how much of of a differential between cylinders I should look for. I have one of those laser tempreture readers. My bike has an exhaust smell like possibly unburned fuel people have told me and sometimes I feel it might be running on 3 cylinders but seems to run pretty well.

LEDs for taillight?
CrazyHorse replied to cimmer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Clearance is fine no problem at all. The only thing is the license plate will be a little dimmer since the 1157 bulb did double duty as the brake light and the license plate laight, but I dont care about that. Heres the pictures the left is normal the right is with brake activated.
