  1. Theres really no low speed cruising mine planes out about 19 mph. Your going to ride it theres no really sitting in one place relaxing. Not really made to sit. Choppy waters can make for an uncomfortable ride early morning is best when water is glass like. I find bigger lakes better like Lake of the Ozarks. If its calm. You can skip across many smaller lakes in a blink of an eye. I enjoy river running more calmer water if you can ride awhile without locks interfering. I enjoy the Mississippi. Something to think about. Do you really want one. I wouldnt say they are relaxing they are work to ride but I tend to ride hard. They beat you up. I would rent one more then once for at least 3 hours each time and think hard about it.
  2. I have a Honda F12x about 9 years old turbo charged I ve seen 64 on the speedo dont know how accurate it is. I bought new its been perfect bullet proof. Absolutely wonderful machine. I take care of it but that doesnt mean I dont ride like I stole it. I dont ride it as much as i would like. I would look for one that doesnt sit in the water and in the sun all year. Those will tend to look like hell. Many watercraft sit hopefully the owner winterized it and fogged the cylinders. Watercraft tend to be pushed to their limits. Look for low hours. Many people buy them and dont use them. I also use that anti corrosion spray on the motor. My first battery lasted 7 yrs. I think you have to decide whether you will use it or not to justify it. I can ride about 4-5 hours beating on it 16 gallons. Look in engine compartment start it you can run it for about 15 seconds w/o water. If it looks like hell and sounds like hell dont buy it. Maintenance nothing except oil changes and winterizing fogging. Its been a great piece of machinery. 3 seater stable watercraft. Now only if my yamaha venture could be so reliable.
  3. Ill have to check those too. I have alot of electrical issues fan stopped, no cruise, radio in and out, dash out, rear brake doesnt activate brake light, idles but runs like crap, give it gas it dies. If the dash comes back bike runs ok. I m going to make double sure on all of the grounds.
  4. Is your headlight out too? Then your switch is sticking . Dont ask how I know.
  5. They use firehose around guards to prevent scratches . Extremely tough material. Floor boards are dragging or kick stands they burn thru a clutch pretty quickly if they do it wrong. The newer harley clutches i guess arent lasting as well as their older bikes for some reason.
  6. Grounds appear good wondering bout tci . I can get it started but the dash flickers on and off runs like crap give it throttle it dies. Will only idle nothing else.
  7. Agreed impact driver if you have access to one and use the biggest head possible. Or the biggest phillps head that will fit. If not you could try screw extractor. Drilling if your carefull
  8. I dont think we have to go crazy on it, but I dont know what kind of undertaking it would be. Maybe a simple list of symptoms and likely causes and references to various threads because like I said people will call something by a different name then I would like tci or cdi or ignitor etc. which then makes it hard to look up. Maybe I could send you a list of stuff and put it under the tech section. I would spend time looking up the various threads to reference . Which again I dont really know what Im getting into of course but I'm willing to try.
  9. I guess my point for the offended is this is a good low speed skill to know. I did say it poorly. ( Im referring to guys who refuse to learn new stuff cause they ve been riding around forever these are the same types that use only back brake cause if they use the front brake especially hard they are going to go down or flip over the handle bars this is the reason we have linked brakes today. ) I want people understand this is a low speed skill it does not translate to higher speed stuff balances are different but it is a good foundation to start with and well worth the time to learn, but your not going to be a magic rider its just one part of riding education. Never stop learning.
  10. Breaking down today a first for my 20 yr old bike. I was able to use my smart phone to access this site for help but I had a hard time finding info. People are all different and have different way of describing their problem making it a little more challenging to locate relevant info. I'm proposing a webmd type symptom checker that would help assist individuals to quickly assess a situation and find relevant info to help their situation quickly. It might be something simple and get them up and running quickly. I'm willing to compile the info and various links to accomplish this for 1st gens unless you have something that accomplishes this already. Good idea? Bad idea?
  11. I guess Im a little misleading. The rear brake not activating brake light and am radio going in and out and cruise control not activating have been issues for awhile. The dash going out and crappy running started today and or shutting off happened today. Bumps seem to have effect on the dash going out and running. Im going to check those grounds.
  12. I do have a new fuse box. Do you lknow where the grounds are?
  13. Riding to work I have been having an issue with the am side of radio not working sometimes. But today a bigger problem the whole dash shuts off the bike will run but like crap no acceleration hit a pot hole dash lights up bike runs fine. I can start it when dash is out and idle but give it throttle it dies. Now what I have noticed is that the clock is at the right time when it reappears I dont have to reset it. My cruise also will not engage. My rear brake will not activate the brake light either. I started cleaning fuses then the bike started but hit another bump crap running dash out. Any ideas? Bad ground? Bad TCI? Bad or corroded fuses?
  14. With the ventures longer wheel base you probably could not do that particular course. Many of the circles are set up for a Harley wheel base slighty bigger max turn You would need an expanded course. This stuff is fun and great but I find it doesnt translate to higher speed twisty type stuff. But it does save you the embarassment of making a u turn shuffling your feet on the ground doing a three pt turn that Ive seen quite a few " I ve been riding 40 years." types do. But I do think its a good low speed skill to know.
  15. Dam i need 25,624 of them. 1 short. Cool good ole mouser use them for tube amp parts never thought of them for these. How are u getting rid of the cassette. Id like to see how your plan. Im going to rip out the amp and build a new upgraded chip amp one also. Im looking into making the radio/cb transmit bluetooth to my helmet.
  16. Hard to put in the small cavity. Hard to see and did not see a change in color. I just use the rpm method instead. Agree with you Dan.
  17. I found the colortune useless and hard to use on a 1st gen.
  18. I m wondering if a bearing is bad or the clutch basket is wobbling. I replaced the pressure plate bearing but the noise is still there. The noise is a whirring sound almost like something is wobbling coming from the gear area loudest at 3000 rpm, stops when I pull the clutch in. At idle a slight rumble goes away when I pull the clutch in. I get on acceleration a rumble/vibration coming from the gear area. The noise is really starting to bother me. The carbs have been synced. Any ideas?
  19. Yes pickups flip easy high center of gravity and most of the weight on one end make them unstable.
  20. Jump the solenoid I had mine go bad see what happens.
  21. Cant stand them. Don't like making a significant turn with them. Having ridden a friends VRDO nice motorcycle but hated the forward controls. One of the Vrods came with mid controls the sport one I think.
  22. I was able to do this without separating the halves. I used if I remember right a severely worn brake pad down to the metal with a clamp. I clamped one side and used compressed air to remove the pistons opposite side clamp. But you have to be careful and use a tiny amount of air or the piston will rocket out. Very short bleeps of air with most of the air escaping the sides of the nipple hole so the pistons moves slowy. you also want them to come out at about the same rate you dont want one to pop out so now all the air escapes. Now you may have a stuck piston. I would try to push it down a little first to try to loosen it. you may have to grab it with a pliers to get it out. I would try to use a rag and then grab it at the top. The top part never really goes all the way into the caliper. you really dont want to damage the piston with dents or scratches or rough edges. you will probably mare the piston at the top if you have to pull it out I filed out any sharp or rough spots. If you grab it to low and mare the piston you could have leaks by either low spots or cutting the new seal so be careful.
  23. I usually dont bother. Sometimes I do most of the time don't. Maybe if its one person but if I start seeing a bunch of bikes during the day I dont. Its not being snobish. I dont know these people. I'm not stopping to talk to them. I'll never see them again. I dont stand on a street corner waving at every car that goes by or when I'm sitting in the car at stoplight. So why with bikes?
  24. but the avon site says differently... I have since run 50 always I like it and can tell when a tire is low especially the front feels mushy int turns. Im not recomending this to you of course.
