The only thing you have to fear is funnel web spiders, box jelly fish, and every other extremely poisonous/deadly creature you guys manufacture down there.

Yea I know. You have to have whats called a FOID card firearms owners identification card here to buy any gun or ammunition in this state unless your from another state. Only state in the Union with that. Because of this there are no murders in Chicago at all.

Carrying into Canada is not a wise choice to make. They have there laws up there especially about handguns. I dont agree with them but thats what they are and we should respect that. I have crossed the border there a few times and once got searched glad I didn't have a gun that time had to go through Detroit wished I had one there. My lovely state is very anti carry here, also one of the few in the nation you cant carry and doesnt except permits from other states. If your smart about it and not a total jag and draw attention to yourself they really are not going to search you. I gotta get out here Arizona Texas maybe.

rear master cylinder?
CrazyHorse replied to MikeM8560's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Its on the right side follow up the brake linkage for the rear and you run right into it on top of that is the resovoir. If I remeber right its the gold one to the lower right of my finger and the sliver part if I remeber right is the proportioning valve. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. -
I use the customdynamics 1.85" Raidentz bulbs with the normal base extremely bright the standard brightness is like having the brake light on until you put the brake lights on then they are super bright. In a heavy rain storm friends said my tailights were extremely visible. I have a post about it somewhere.

Honda makes a nice bike my buddy owns one rode it a few times boy they are nice on the interstate. They are pretty darn fast (my buddy calls it stupid fast) lots of torque down low. They sit fairly low to the ground compared to my first gen. They are nice machines except the foot postition for me I dont like the motor sticking way out. (Prefer the compact V4.) Good luck happy riding.

I gotta say I like that two tone look. -
Do both front brakes work are the disks straight? Frame cracked somewhere? Equal oil in both forks and both fork dampers working? Rims ok? Axles ok? Is your front wheel about to lock up sometimes you get a side to side motion before it skids? Heres a somewhat interesting article. http://www.essortment.com/hobbies/streetbikemain_seuf.htm

I would definitely look into that tire it looks like it just came apart.

Since my accident I get to get new speakers since one was totally destroyed, also getting rid of stock radio. I'm going with polk db401's but I'm sure they will distort at higher levels being only 4" speakers and since most of my rides are 55+ mph hearing them is harder without distortion. Anyone using bass blockers? Hows the sound? I like some bass does it totally knock it out? Any opinions?

Did Yellowstone this past summer in the RV wonderful place but if your riding watch the animals I never saw so many especially dawn/dusk night be careful.

Good job Kit. Paying attention helps.

I'm not sure where you guys get your info but gas mileage goes down in winter. I'm talking real winter Negative whatever to 40 degrees not the 60 degree winter. http://www.helium.com/tm/241291/there-factors-cause-achieve http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/factors.shtml http://www.swri.org/10light/mile.htm http://www.moneysavingmagnets.com/mpg-in-cold-weather.html http://www.isnare.com/?aid=214667&ca=Automotive

You tend to get worse mileage when its cold cars or bikes.

In light of Squidleys accident with the tire blow out which I have no idea what caused it but it got me thinking about this product I just saw this advertised in one of my emails from an RV'er site I frequent. http://www.aviationupgrade.com/ Has anyone seen one of these or have any experiance with one? I was thinking of trying them out. Any comments?

I glad you folks could basically walk away.

How much stopping power?
CrazyHorse replied to mark reed's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Good stuff Kit. Only thing I would add is a proper downshift and look for a safe area to escape. Oops, I said I would shut up in this post. Someones got to hold me down.- 35 replies

Now it is the Carb!

Condor I had this problem it was my very tiny pilot jets in the idle circuit. No amount of seafoam or soaking helped. I had to poke a steel bristle from a wire brush through them to unplug them. Be careful though. You can look into you gas tank if you take the seat off and pull out the fuel level float. Shine a flashlight in there and see if you have rust mine fortunately was clean as a whistle. Mine would only idle with the choke on. These jets are very tiny and easly plugged even by varnish. I'll bet on this. -
How much stopping power?

You probably going do what your trained from muscle memory something you have done time and time again. If you normally hit the rear all the time I think your gonna hit the rear. I see too many guys just use the rear for everyday riding and only use the front occasionally. Hence you have linked brakes because you have to use the front. Honda first noticed this if I remember right and put it on Goldwing 1200 I believe. Many "bikers" might get out for a couple hours on the weekend a little more then a few times a year especially in colder areas. Linked brakes are great for the weekend rider and I'm not going to dispute that cause Condor's right they are just gonna hit the brakes hard. They are not going to downshift simultanously (something that needs to be done to keep control) and look for an escape point. Your not really going to be able to brake and steer at the same time it's going to be one or the other not enough traction available for both. Now is this stuff gonna save you all the time NO. Sometimes when it's your time it's your time. I'll try and shut up now.- 35 replies

How much stopping power?
CrazyHorse replied to mark reed's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey I agree with you guys if your 2nd Gen rear brake is that sensitive I would do something about it too( I must admit I have never rode a 2nd Gen). I know my opinion on de-linking is not a popular one with many of you. I did it for my own reasons listed many times before. I personally think I'm can get more out of the brakes I have. I'm still not happy with 1st Gen stopping power. I know more is there. Thanks to Condor I now know that the proportioning valve (which I did leave on) only gives 25 % to the rear. Using rear alone theres very little stopping power delinked with the brake line hooked to it's original postition. (No matter what position I set the pedal at.) I'm going to switch the position of the brake line to the front position on the valve and see how it goes from there. I'm going to test a master cylinder with a bigger bore and see if that gives me what I'm looking for. I like the Rick Butler idea of an adjustable valve. I respect everyones opinions and I've learned alot from this site from people that have owned these bikes for years and I appreciate everyones input even if they think I'm a nut job for modifying my bike the way I do. High siding is a dangerous thing (a little harder to do on an 800lb machine then a sportbike.) and don't blame you folks one bit looking for a solution. Merry Xmas to all. Jim:bighug:- 35 replies

Isnt modifying a 2nd Gen the same lawyer problem? I'm not trying to be a jerk about it. Most disagree with me and thats fine. I dont have a problem with it.- 35 replies

How much stopping power?
CrazyHorse replied to mark reed's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I ride a newer roadking on a regular basis much better stopping then my 1st Gen. The brakes on those are not linked. Sounds like your friends are hooked on rear brake stopping only (from the comment of smoking rear tire) your front brake does 80% of the work. Maybe check that out. Some people like linking which is fine. I personally don't for number of reasons I have stated here many times. I dont care for the bike telling me I have to stop both wheels every time. Linking is fine for straight on good surface panic stops wheres alot of people love to slam on that rear brake like a car. Having experiance with bike ABS I think thats a more worth while option on a bike then linked brakes. IMHO. Me I like more fine control over the bike. Thats just me. Funny the new Kawasaki Concours which is pretty techologically advanced, does not link the brakes I might get one of those. I dont blame guys like Kit and Freebird with 2nd Gen's modifying thier rear brakes if they are really touchy, (Never rode a 2nd Gen) locking up the rear is not a good thing especially at speed. I think if the Butler Mod helps great its a good idea. Myself I 'd just use the adjustable valve part but again thats me.- 35 replies

How much stopping power?
CrazyHorse replied to mark reed's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm one of the oddballs here. I think the brakes on the 1300 leave alot to be desired IMHO. Never came close to locking them up either which is good but I think I'm leaving some stopping power on the table. I delinked mine since I personally dont care for that setup even put R1/R6 calipers on the front and use HH level pads. I still have the proportining valve on I may switch the position of the rear brake on the proportining valve to the old front position and see if I can gain any stopping power. I may also switch the front master cylinder to one with a bigger bore cylinder to gain even more.- 35 replies
