Old thread on crash bar brackets
CrazyHorse replied to Moakster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My 1st Gen crash bar in my low side crash also took out my plastic water pump tube. So all the coolant leaked out. The crash bar sits very close to that plastic tube and doesnt take much to take them out. Nice design. -
I bought a car in Pennsylvania and they required me to have some sort of plate. Either their temporary or mine I borrowed a friends in-transit plate instead of paying the 60 bucks to PA. In Illinois you have 1 business day to get plates as long as you have proof of sale and title which I think is more reasonable. (Whoops I said Illinois was reasonable)

] This is very true. Guys that are new and learn the correct way usually do better then the ones that "I have been riding 20 years". In a short amount of time.- 31 replies

Is carb jet upgrade worth it?
CrazyHorse replied to mbrood's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I dont think you ll find better mileage but slight better throttle response. -
I believe you can mount regular mirrors on these bikes on the clutch resovoir and brake master cylinder. Pull the plug on brake master cylinder and remove the talking unit on the clutch cylinder.

Float check 1st Gen
CrazyHorse replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
To really get the carbs to set nice in thier respectives boots for a nice seal I loosened all the carb frames bolts so the carbs could move a little. This gave me flexibiltiy to really set the carbs in thier boots nicely. I then tightened all the carb frame bolts up while they set in thier respective boots. I replaced all of the screws with stainless hex head cap screws so I could use an allen wrench to tighten them much easier then the screw heads to get them nice and tight while the carbs sat in the boots. A slow process some them dont have much room to move the bolt. This appears to give me a real nice seal around all of the the bottoms of the carbs. Something I never had before. -
Float check 1st Gen

When I was doing this I used a micrometer to measure the tab and I was hoping to get an even reading with all four carbs lets say 3.5 mm's of tab height but it didnt work out that way. -

Yes I took meniscus into consideration. It was a pain I'm not really interested in doing it again I gotta say. Another thing I notice that the carbs dont all seat into the boots the same anyone else have this problem? I'm looking into seating the carbs by loosening the bracket screws to get the play to get them all to seat properly and then tighten them when they are seated. -
Where do these wires go????
CrazyHorse replied to Coach's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I just happen to have my bike apart rebuilding after last years crash. Plus some other modifications. I have never touched that connection so I'm assuming it's the original position. -
The new HD 103 motors get hot quick especially slow speeds they start to bog I used to like them now I'm not sure. I'm not sure about the 96 cube. Liquid cooling be a step in the right direction. I wonder what BMW will do with thier LT. My buddies LT only 1200 cc gets in the 40's mpg wise. I'm not sure I want a bigger motor out of Yamaha maybe just Fuel injection.

I've heard this too. Like using the VROD motor on a Ultra Glide. I think its only a matter of time. Thats a pretty nice motor a friend of mine had a Vrod boy that thing was quick.

Float check 1st Gen
CrazyHorse replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No, I couldnt picture the procedure in my head I guess I'd have to see it done. I'm not sure how he would measure a 1st Gen Carb that way. Its not as nice a job as a 2nd Gen carb set appears to be in V7Gooses thread. No I took each individual carb attached a fuel line to it an filled it with fuel then placed a round bubble level on top of the carb so it was perfectly level (Simulating a level bike). I had a clear tube attached to the drain and measured the difference from the mark on the carb. Maybe I'm screwed up and am doing it wrong. If I am I sure like to know the correct way. The manual, I thought was crappy says to start bike and run it then test level. Ok thats great but if the level is off you have to take the whole carb set out and basically take it apart and guess at an adjustment put the whole carb set in again and start the bike and then measure again no way I'm doing that I'll be there for a week doing that. -
Float check 1st Gen
CrazyHorse replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
They are all set about to approximately 16mm + or - .5mm what a pain. I did it with carbs off bike and using a round bubble level on top of the each separate carb took forever to get it right. I'm not sure it was worth it. I was getting about 37-38mpg. But I did change the pilots to the 83 style 42.5 so I m not sure I ll see any gains in mpg. I guess I'll see. -
This winter I'll be putting in a 2nd Gen trans with vmax rear end in my 1st Gen I have the parts but dont want to do it now in summer. I'm looking for a quicker 1st gear and a taller final 5th gear and the 2nd Gen trans w/Vmax rear will give what I'm looking for. I'll report back when its finished. I'll be keeping solid track of my mileage and rpm's for given speed this summer with the original set up and compare it. My speedos off so I'll have to use GPS to give an accurate estimate.

RSV Miles per Gallon, Speeds, and Odometer Errors
CrazyHorse replied to V7Goose's topic in Watering Hole
I wonder if the tire issue is related to weight carried on the motorcycle the more weight the more tread used. I'm just guessing though. -
If you want to try the techniques and push it further you can acquire some old firehose and wrap all the crash guards with it and some duct tape so when you drop it the guards dont get scratched. I'm not sure how many would want to do this with thier own bikes. Once you get good at the techniques its kinda fun to practice.

Float check 1st Gen
CrazyHorse replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I said screw it I like to tinker around so I changed the floats to what the manual says. I guess I'll see what happens. I also put in in the 42.5 pilot jets and removed the stock 37.5's like the 83 model had. -

CrazyHorse replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well I'm measured 3 times and came up with 12mm for (3) and 13mm for (1). Bike seemed to run fine. Adjust or not what do you all think? My manual says 15.5 mm to 16.5mm for a level. And which way do I adjust the tabs to get the 3mm extra fuel? Comments suggestions or am I playing with fire?
