Go for it, keep the 1st Gen's going, red good color. Better to beg for forgiveness then to ask for permission.

Luggage guard no. Mirror and fairing yes. -
When mine backfired through the carb it did it with such force it actually unseated itself from the boot. Are all the boots tight on the carbs?

ARRRGGG! Brakes suck.
CrazyHorse replied to shriva's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I delinked mine like that but before you do something like that which is alot of work with a bike that old has the fluid been changed in the last few years? I know you just did it but what I'm getting at is how old was the fluid before you changed it recently? If it was really old you could have brake fluid crystallization in the master cylinder (this happened to me) and bleed it forever and it still wont work and the crystals wont come out. Did you take apart the resovoir and the master and clean them out? If you haven't you maybe suprised to what you find in there. Then you can see how bad the master is. -

Ok so Sunday the nice state trooper in Wisconsin decided he would give me a ticket (not to the policeman’s ball either. Wisconsin troopers usually dont give breaks. 68MPH in a 55MPH zone, which is a $160.00 invitation to court or just pay it and suffer the consequences with the insurance company. Before you ask I have no idea how fast I was going all I know is that I was going up a hill in the passing lane and the trooper was at the top of the hill with his laser radar on. The rest of the story is history as they say He probably gunned you were when you were at the bottom of the hill when you had the most speed and you only saw him later when going up hill. Left lane is the fast lane they usually look in the left lane first for speeders. They ask you if you know what speed your going as a way to help convict you in court if you say anything above the speed limit they will use it against you. Anybody know any thing about laser radar? Accuracy? Problems with their use? Interference? Very accurate but at 1000 ft plus slight possibility of picking up another target if it was like 800' or less hes got you. The beam does get bigger with range I cant remember what the exact distance is where it might pick up another car. Did he mark how many feet away where you when he gunned you down. If I don’t show up they find me guilty if the trooper doesn’t show, what happens then. Will they dismiss it? Depends on the jurisdiction in Chicago area if hes not in court the ticket is gone the outer ring counties the prosecutor tries to get you to plead guilty and if you dont they then set it for trial on the next court date even if the officer is there as a way to discourage from pleading innocent then you have to take another day off of work another court date. People generally lose in court. Judges have some say in parts of the fine in Chicago area but not the court costs.

A couple friends I have one has a 1999 BMW K1200 LT the other a 2001 Goldwing. I have ridden both. I prefer the seating position on the BMW to the GW. The BMW seems to handle better. The GW has more torque and what my buddy calls stupid fast and it has power and doesnt matter what gear your in twist the throttle and go. The BMW gets it power higher up in the power band but still not GW power. BMW is getting 45+mpg the GW about 38 mpg. BMW electric movable windscreen to GW hand operated screen. 6 speed tranny BMW 5 speed GW. BMW wrote the book on brakes no other bike has the brakes of this BMW if you want to turn ABS off you can do it. Both have linked brakes BMW is linked rear to front by pulling the right handle last I heard GW was still like the 1st Gen linked front to the rear by pushing on the brake peddle. I like my brakes with the rear operated alone by the peddle. The BMW way is ok in this regard. Earlier GW had frame and paint issues I think they corrected these now. GW has lots more dealers across the nation and plentiful parts in the future compared to BMW. Reliability have to go to Honda slighty better. Oil change harder to do on the BMW. BMW maintenance costs higher if dealer does it. Adjustable heated seat on BMW the GW I think didnt have this on the 1800 unless they changed it. I prefer the BMW riding position and the handling to the GW. I used to think I wanted a 1800 motor but 1200 is good enough with the cost of fuel. For me I'd rather have the BMW but GW does have some advantanges.

Front brake problem with 86 Venture
CrazyHorse replied to Judd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Squeeze is the R1 rear 2 piston instead of 4 and hows it working for you? Without the valve in there hows the braking force? Leaves alot to be desired with it on. -
Anyone have pictures of this like to see how it was done?

CrazyHorse replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Im finishing rebuilding after a low side crash last year. It looks ok but was wondering about not being able to get grease into the fitting on the one I cant remember from the last time I greased the fittings last year if I had a problem. -
I hate my state does that count?

How does one tell if the swing arm is damaged? I also cant get grease to go into one fitting. Took it off cleaned it out but still grease wont go into fitting.
