Dont "Venture" up to Woodstock too much, nice town, I like the town square with that little French restaurant my wife likes. Can't say I've been to the dealer. -

If its true they only sold 1700 bikes last year they probably would. My local dealer doesn't even carry them. -

Same old motor too, not even fuel injected. I guess 2010 will be the Goldwing competitor. Honda will probably redo the Goldwing since they moved production out of the US. Yamaha gives us the same old technology. Yippyi aaaaaa:mad: -
I've done this also since I have never liked linked brakes. I used R6 calipers but I think it they go up to 2002 instead of 2001. I also use the HH rated pads. I originally used the the standard Venture master but have since gone with a Suzuki GSXR 600/750 Katana master I like it a little better. The bike stops much better then the original setup. Nice work. Squeeze knows alot about these bikes I have picked his brain a few times. I admire the guys that think out of the box and do the modifications ( I wouldnt do this on a new bike but 20 year old ones why not.) to make their bikes better. Congrats

fall morning, rethinking ClearView ouch
CrazyHorse replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The windshield should really be just below eye height so you can look over it not through it. I often run into this situation (fog) I live in a rural area and commute to urban area and the farm fields frequently have fog in the early morning hours and lots of bugs. In bad weather conditions fog.rain, road mist, bug splatters, etc, trying to look through your eyeglasses or helmet visor and then looking through a windshield in bad conditions just makes it doubly hard now you have to look through two bad surfaces instead of one. It also easier to do something about the clarity of the helmet visor or glasses when they are right in front of your head as compared to the windshield a couple feet in front of you. I would trim it down. Heres an article on how to do it. http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/tech/remove_windshield/index.html -
Pretty much eveyone is better at left turns. When the throttle is closer to your body its a little harder to maintain consistant throttle inputs due to the angle of your hand/wrist. On the left turn your hand and wrist are fairly straight and away from the body making it easier to keep a consistant throttle input, but on right turns the hand and wrist are bent and close to your body making it more difficult to keep consistant inputs which help you stabilize the bike in a turn.

I also see no difference in Octanes but I do see a difference between gas station fuels. I keep good records and so far have found Marathon Fuel to give me the best mileage for car and bike. I run 100 miles 5 days a week so I fill up every couple days. In Illinois its all 10% ethanol which I'm not crazy about. A buddy of mine drove his GW to his place in Missouri and he got better mileage on Missouri fuels. He thought the fuel there did not have 10% Ethanol. I dont know if hes right or not.

That would go right to the cylinders I'd be careful with that and not to much or youll lo hydraulic lock your pistons. I'd try carb spray instead I'd only pour it into the cylinders if it was running.

I think it was the chrome brake pedal. Chromes slippery slips through the air.

My speedo is off more then that at 75mph speedo I'm around 68mph GPS. I'm tired of an inaccurate speedo I think I'm gonna try a farkle I saw on a FJR site using a digital bicycle speedometer which I guess is very accurate its made by Sigma and can be adjusted for various tire sizes. I dont want to run around with a GPS everywhere I go. I ride pretty much everyday to work weather premitting about 100 miles round trip. So I dont need a GPS for this. So Im gonna try this out with the bike speedometer. I keep accurate records of my fuel mileage and I try different gas stations and see what I get. So far Marathon Gas is giving me the best mileage. 38mpg at around 3600 rpm at 4000 rpm its about 36-37 mpg. Octane rating doesnt seem to matter. I dont use speed because the speedo's off and its alot slower then whats displayed but, I know the tach is accurate. Illinois is all 10% ethanol.

You sure the pilot fuel jets arent plugged? They are responsible for idle. Mine were plugged up bad and it would not idle at all had to keep on the throttle to keep it running. If I remember right it was about 1500 rpms just to get it to run. 1500 rpms might be the point were the carb transitions to other fuel jets Mbrood might know. These tiny jets are prone to plugging. Sea foam didnt help they were too plugged. Mine were so bad I had to do a through cleaning job on the carbs had to use a wire bristle to poke through the the pilot jets to unclog them then the bike ran fine. I may not be right but its what I had to do to get mine to run right. I would try Marcarls strong Seafoam mix and see what happens. If all else fails I would look into a serious carb cleaning totally taking them apart.

Maybe a Vmax with a fairing? Interesting. Hmmm

Yes he is correct I stand corrected. -
I love my 1st Gen but I dont think there is a 83 Venture (non-modifed) thats gonna take an 1800 Goldwing. I personally think those stats are off. Just my opinion.

Has anyone replaced their CB antenna? What kind did you use and what other parts do you need to do it? I looked at some at a local truck stop but they wont mount directly on to the old mount.

Can someone please explain the differences?

Boost/Pressure sensor
CrazyHorse replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I tried the suction thing with the booster on the bike at idle it did nothing then I gave it throttle like 2000 rpm's and then sucked the idle then did change. Should it change at idle or just at higher rpm's? I tried this with two different sensors same thing both checked out with the voltage thing.- 25 replies
