CrazyHorse replied to masterofyard's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dont bother with a used one its a gamble. I have one of the overseas ones and Im pretty happy with it. Needs a little fine tuning but I havent got around to it. -
I dont ride below 40 anymore especially at 5 am when i have to go to work to many chances for black ice in my area.

Mine will do this also around right in the 35-40 range upon deceleration with no hands. I have to check my bearings also.

Good advice

So many people do this and I think its worse on cruiser type bikes with that huge car like brake pedal as opposed to peg style bikes. Another reason I hate linked brakes they force you to over use the rear and improper braking style. Another thing about linked brakes in wet or slippery conditions in a turn I may not want the front to activate or risk going down. Once in awhile I may upshift without clutch downshifting not really too hard to time.

Well said
-
Just wondering if you braked with the linked brakes with rear brake that activated the front made the situation worse . This is a situation where linked brakes scare me. This is what I shoulda said.

Im interested what caused the oops? Gotta watch out for the right side if you hit the plastic tube for the water pump. I had the engine guard pop that. Not good.

88 venture carb sync question
CrazyHorse replied to masterofyard's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Are your diaphrams in right? Are they the right ones for your bike? -
Theres no comparison to the 1800 GW it was designed by Hondas top sport bike designer to get rid of the old GW (1200 and 1500) stodgy image. Yes you would be right comparing the old 1200 and 1500 gw to 83-93 venture. The GW 1800 is basically a grown up sportbike / sport tourer. Like the 83-93 Venture. A riding style I prefer. Todays Venture is basically an old guy cruiser/ tourer bike. Theres nothing wrong with that to each his own ,but, I have to laugh when people say theyre not old enough to ride a new wing. Usually these people are a 2 nd gen rider on a bike design that looks like it came out of WWll.
-
No offense but stock Ventures dont have more power. A GW1800 has power in every gear no matter the rpm. Twist the throttle in 5th gear and your gone.
-
Sure trade a 21 year old bike for a new bike that can perform well no problem. Though I would prefer the BMW1600 more. Gettin tired of constant maintenance of a 21 yr old bike.
-
Have to respectfully disagree the only time to need to worry on these bikes delinked with grabbing handful of front brake is on substandard surface wet and slick, gravely, sandy etc. Your not going to do a stoppie and flip over the handle bars. I would worry more bout locking rear but even then if the rear end comes around if your off it quickly before it comes around youll be ok and wont high side I do believe forward control bikes with big car like brake pedal encourages slamming the rear brake.

CrazyHorse replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have the same issue lights up green and nothing. Dingy printed up a very nice wiring diagram. In the tech section. Thats where im going to start. Lots of systems will make the cruise not function -
88 venture carb sync question
CrazyHorse replied to masterofyard's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Do you have a air leak like the carb boots are not seated both top and bottom of carb? -
I didnt split the calipers when I rebuilt. I clamped off one side with the old pad steel - the pad then slowly used air to push out the other two but I also put something in the way so they dont shoot out. They both have to come out equaly if one pops out then your screwed and cant use air. Then when they are close to coming out you can grap them and work them out.

good luck with ebay one. half of them dont work. Ignitech one is pretty dam nice
-
I made one myself also out of nuts and bolts and welded them together works well

Take the money while its there

Agreed 100% Dont care for linking either. ABS is a better option in my opinion. I find peg style bikes harder to lock the rear then I do forward board type bikes with the huge car like pedal.
-
Have you ever rebuilt the rear master?
