You might be better off with some sort of used BMWK1200lt at least they are newer then 1st Gens and may have a similar riding style/performance you like. Dont get me wrong I love my 1st Gen but maintenance is starting to be an issue on a 20 yr old bike. I like working on stuff but lately issues keep popping up and it gets expensive and want to ride more then work on it. Your not going to save any money on an old bike. Dont ask how I know...

Yes very good looking I like the red also.

Wow more toys on that bike then I thought. I think Im in love too.
-
Yea this is great on the track with no crossing intersections and no big objects to hit your basically sliding off into the grass but not on a road with cars telephone poles and other objects yo might slide into.

I would have to agree the design on some bikes encourages it especially more forward controls. Like on Harley's they have this huge rear brake pedal like a car with foot resting on that board its real easy to apply a bunch of pressure fast with your full leg. While on my 1st Gen (which is delinked) no boards, just pegs I find it harder to apply rear brake pressure because of the design (much smaller brake pedal) I have to rotate my foot forward cant really use the full leg pressure like on a bike with boards and big rear brake pedal. I dont know how a 2nd Gen rear pedal looks but I suspect its similiar to a Harley.
-
I'm gonna guess its a shade better.

Having a passenger heavier then you are is unstable to begin with all the weight to the rear. In an emergency situation it only worsens the stability.

Slow down as quick as possible while downshifting and look for escape hole to steer through look where you want to go not at the object you will tend to go where you look try to maintain control as long as you can. When you downshift and your slowed down enough you can power around an object and not stall it hopefully. Laying it down gives you no control and your going to continue in the direction you were going which may not be where you want to go. Paying attention is the best advice hopefully you can see a potential situation before it happens.

Wow sweet looking bike and all the the high tech gadgets you could fool with. I like it. Yamahahaha isnt going to come up with anything like that.

Well be careful until you get used to the lean angle. I ride a 1st gen which can lean pretty well when I ride a Harley Roadking I sometimes forget I cant lean nearly as much which can lead to bad results. Dont ask how I know.

Were there any improvements to the Venture over the last ten years?
CrazyHorse replied to Humbucker's topic in Watering Hole
Actually since 1993 they took a step back in time...... -
The biggest reason cars get broken into is people leave stuff in plain sight like gps in the windshield, laptop, mp3 players and cell phones on the seat. Hide it your trunk behind one of those carpeted walls or near the spare shrimpy tire maybe in a cloth bag to disguise it further. Crooks arent going to spend all day tearing through your car at the Disney parking lot. Leave nothing in view in the passenger compartment and you should be fine.
-
Your not going to be able to accomplish the same lean angle as you would with the st1300 or vstrom.

My buddy had a touring one it was real quick faster then another buddys GW. It was a big manly bike kinda sounded like a jet. Kinda like the sound it was different. He crashed it on the Dragon totaling it tried to ride it like his BMW K1200lt found out it doesnt lean over as far. It was kind of a cool bike for a classic looking machine. Not for the small statured folks.
-
They are fast faster then a GW.

Agreed there is no such thing in Illinois. Illinois does not recognize other states permits either. I'd hide it in the car whats the difference someone can break into your home while your gone and steal it just the same at least you'll have it with you most of the time.

Rip out the cd changer why have it when a MP3 player can plug right in. More space in the bags. 100 times more music in a credit card size. Thats what my buddy did on his 99 K12Lt. No reason this day and age to have a cassette player or cd changer taking up space.

You should be very happy with it maintenance is not that hard on them. They are good bikes and lot more advanced back in 2002 then anything else on the road even the newest Goldwing takes a back seat in terms of technology to that BMW. The heated seat on that thing is awesome. BMW will be my next bike since Yamaha isnt going to come out with anything soon. I'll wait a year see if Yamaha pulls the trigger and I'm with you Sheredan if the looks stay the same on the Venture I'm gone.

Are you talking a bout one of the jets? The one in diaphram area called the main jet? I used the original 1983 needles and pilot jets in my 1990 and used skydocs lowering kit. I then wanted to use the original 1983 main jet which I believe is #180 throttle response was not as good as my original #170 main jet so I returned to that. I ve thought about trying out a #160 size jet. I ve got good power and good mileage.
