    RSV choke

I've often wondered why Yamaha didn't put an automatic choke on this engine, but then again people use to have a lot of problems with that as well!!

    RSV choke

Ok, now that we find this is a common issue, does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can correct having to choke even after a short break, say 1-3 hours?? Maybe the carbs need just a little richer idle mixture ????? What about it V7Goose, Freebird , or others that are more familiar with this engine??? Keep in mind that this isn't in cool or cold weather we're talking about.

    RSV choke

Yea, I always crank it up, then put on my helmet and hook up my tunes(MP3 player) before trying to pull off, by then I can usually push the choke back in.

    RSV choke

Man ,I thought that something on the carbs might have been needing a little tweeking.

    RSV choke

I'd like to know how many of you have to choke their bike anytime it cools off? It can be in the 90's outside and I still have to pull the choke for a short period before riding. No problem cranking, it just won't idle without the choke until it's warmed up a little. Suggestions?????
  6. After hitting a deer not too long ago one night while riding home, I threw out the "correct" procedure and started adjusting for maximum light on high beams with running lights the same way. May not be too friendly to others, but I can certainly see better!!

    Now I understand

I must be just plain stupid!!!! I couldn't understand a thing he said, however that did look a lot like an automotive transmission.:think::puzzled::doh::doh::confused24::confused24::starz::starz::sign02::sign02:
  8. Good advice!!
  9. This reminds me of my old truck front brakes. I did everything to try to keep one side from locking up. Finally a guy told me to replace the hose to the brake. He described it just exactly like was said earlier. The worn out hose was acting like a check valve and not letting the oil return. Anyway I did what he said and it fixed the problem. Not saying all this other advice isn't worth listening to, just saying it reminds me of something that happened to me. Good luck with the repairs in any event!!!!
  10. Has anyone tried these type brake pads on their Venture?? They're ceramic. One of my friends has a Goldwing and he tried them and said the squeal. Anyone else had similar experience?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-XVZ-1300-Royal-Star-Venture-99-09-Brake-Pads-/280513806134?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item414fecff36
  11. Us with 29" inseams have it pretty rough tippy toeing with leveling links. Makes me think of what was told on a young boy several years ago. They said he was so short legged and the old 1972 Yamaha 650 seat height was so tall that he had to jumped off of it at every redlight just to hold it up!!! Then do like the pony express to get back on when the light changed.
  12. I stayed at the Two Wheel Inn in Robbinsville, NC a couple of years ago. Very nice. You have your own private bike garage. Try to make reservations in advance or they will be filled up if there's any kind of motorcycle rally going on.
  13. I think it's been the same since day 1.
  14. Theoretically it should change the height 1" for every 1/4" in link difference. I think?????
  15. 1st gen Vmax has disc. At least my 99 does.

  18. Not in my book! But then, I'm the only one that reads my book.
  19. Thanks for trying this Steve. I've been thinking of doing the same thing for some time now, just never got around to it!!!
  20. You know the rules, we got to have pics!!!!
  21. So what happens to all that raw gas that still being sucked into the engine and out the tailpipe?? One model of Harley, don't know which, has a dummy exhaust pipe on the left side of the bike. Is the raw fuel dumped into this??? LOL Is there a feature to cut off the fuel in this mode???? Inquiring minds want to know!!
  22. Same here, 12,800 on rear 404 Dunlop. Then 6,500 on Conti Tour. Just put on Elite 3 on rear. This hasn't got but 2,000 miles on it now but it is definately the best tire so far. Just hope it outlasts the others. Have an Avon Cobra radial on the front with 9,000 miles on it. It will easily get at least that many more before needing to be replaced.
  23. I have RoadHouse mufflers on mine. Deep, not too loud.
  24. I used the OEM filter and relocated mine up under the seat several months ago so I don't think I'll have too much of a problem changing it again when needed. I left the rubber around it to help absorb any kind of shock that might occur but I really don't think it's necessary. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to check or change from here on.
  25. This sounds exactly like what we did over the weekend, along with traveling across the northern border with Tn, NC, and SC. We had a ball.
