"Footsie" had a pretty good idea as far a modifying the stock mufflers and they sound good too. Do a search for "footsie" and read about the way he did it. Then if you still want to drill, go at it. Oh, and by the way,

Who was it W.C. Fields that said, "There's a sucker born every minute". The bad part is though someone will probably buy those!!

Thanks Earl(Harry). I guess you know by now I'm terrible with names. Now if I can just locate a gasket for this weekend.
-
Thanks Dan, I'll do that and go from there. Today was the first time I felt the clutch slip. We were riding 2up and I got on it pretty hard. Bike has about 47k miles on it so I know from all the other experience on this website that it's about time for it to start going. My Vmax went at 30k miles. Sounds like a job for the weekend!

Well Dan, that's what I was thinking. And since I would have it apart, I'd go ahead and use a full disc in the back like Earl's kit replaces. I just don't know how much strain the doubling up of the springs will put on the bolts, and how much pressure difference there would be at the lever.
-
Those of you that have had to replace your clutch spring, did you double up on the springs? I'm thinking about giving Skydoc 17 some business, but I have another option that I think will hold me over for a while longer. Let me explain. Several years ago I had the clutch in my Vmax start to slip. Not knowing what I know now, I put all new friction discs and a new oem diaphram spring in and corrected the problem. I still have those discs, which by the way weren't worn at all, and the old spring. My question is this, If you were me would you simply double up that spring with the one now in my RSV and ride a while longer with a new gasket, or go ahead and purchase the deal that Earl has? I have the utmost confidence in Harry's product but, I already have these parts laying around. What would you do?

Thanks Earl, That was and is exactly what I needed, right now. Merry Christmas to you and yours from my home to yours. And to all my Venturerider family, best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season.

She also needs to fill in Ohio as well. It sure looked like her at MD.

I posted earlier about the battery draining if left for six days. Since then I have left the bike for 3 days with no sign of battery drain. I just wanted to post this to give ya'll some more info on how long it could be left without draining. Given what I know now, don't leave the bike for more than 4-5 days without unplugging the player. Hopes this helps. It still beats the heck out of having to unplug and plug up an mp3 player every time you leave the bike in a parking lot some where on the road. I still am glad I bought this, even with this little quirk.

I know back in the day, Kawasaki was always tough. Next to Yamaha I've kinda favored them. From the age of 17 to 37, I always had some type of MX or Enduro bike sitting by the back door. Don't know a whole lot about them anymore since they all gave up 2 strokes.

Are you looking to buy new or used? There are different things to look for 1985-2007, and 2008+. I was thinking about working out a trade if possible. What are the different things that I should be looking for?

My son has always had some kind of 4 wheeler and yesterday I got the wild idea to getting a dual purpose bike for riding the dirt roads around here.. I'm thinking I may trade my Vmax for something like this. Not really serious yet, just thinking.
-
Hey guys has any of you had any experience with a KLR650 dual purpose bike? Pros? Cons?
-
Aw Greg, just go out and buy you a new VMAX. That'll get you through this!

Well, I finally got around to checking my valve clearances on Biggal this past weekend. I'd been putting it off all summer and this week I had some vacation time so I used it to catch up on some long overdue preventive maintenance. Many thanks go out to all the discussions on this website and MD 's at Don's the last 2 years, as well as Freebird's posting about getting the carbs off in the Tech section. V7Goose's article article in the Tech section was my main instruction book for doing the valves. I also used your procedure for setting the floats on the carbs. Thanks Goose. Dingy has a very good spreadsheet in the Tech section as well and it came in very handy. Thanks Gary. You made working with metrics a lot easier and keeping up with what's shims are in each location. After changing the coolant, as well as the oil, filter, sparkplugs, tightening the steering head bearings, and syncing the carbs (didn't really need that) she runs like a champ again. I'd say I've got my 12 dollars worth of help and more!! Thanks to everyone again!

http://www.ridelikeapro.com/ Maybe I am completely blind, but I actually do not see your name on the list. Travelin Man - McRae, GA This was me. Thanks for the link to RLAP.

I am going to do this but so far, the battery is staying up as long as I ride it every day or so.
-
Now I understand what you meant. As far as the engine running without the pump, she'll do it just fine as long as you keep the tank above 1/4 full. Glad you got it fixed. Now don't you just feel spiffy?
-
Glad you got it changed out. I think what mama yamaha wants for a replacement pump is rediculous. One question though, what do you mean by still passing fuel? If the carbs are leaking from the overflow pipes, then, most likely you've got a stuck float in one or more of the carbs.

Don, I don't think we had a march on Rome this year. If there was one I missed it.
