Excellent job. I especially liked the way you put the bigger speakers in the rear. Maybe someday in the future you might think about doing the speakers housings, leaving bare for painting, and just swap out???I'm pretty sure you'd get a lot of customers just off this site.

Well, in that context, a 1st Gen looks like a wannabe Goldwing!!! All Tupperware!!!

I average 20-25k miles a year and I had 404's on my 09 when it was new and got reasonably good service out of them. Granted they are not the best tire out there, but I got mileage similar to what Sylvester said, 10-12k out of the rear and about 14-15k out of the front. These were the tires that came on the bike and it has been speculated that the OEM tires are a better grade than the ones you buy afterward. I don't know about all that but any tire that gets me that kind of mileage is a pretty good tire in my book. I currently am trying out the Avon Venoms. So far they're about the best I've found for the rear and that includes the E3. We'll see how they hold up in the long run. The next best tire would have to be the E3. They just howl like crazy, but other than that, very good. If they made a Avon Cobra in a size to fit the rear of the RSV, I'd buy that one next. I had a Cobra on the front for 20K miles before it got a cut in it and I had to change it out. I had the Cobra on the front when I toyed with the car tire and it was great!! After saying all that I have to add that not everyone's riding habits are the same. That's why one guy says he just loves the Pirelli Route 66 or the Shinko and I can't get 6,000 miles out of the ones I've tried. That's why I keep switching around. When I find the ultimate combo that works for me, I'll stick with it. You should do the same and take opinions with a grain of salt. That includes mine.

Picture of my '09 showing tank and bag hinges. Picture is kinda grainy but best I can do right now. You get the idea anyway. -
2nd Gen Venture Emblem ?
Kirby replied to GolfVenture's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The saddle bag hinges have Venture on them. Some earlier models had Venture on the gas tank. At work right now but will send pics later if no one else does before. Just Google Royal Star Venture. -
Very nice for a 1st Gen. Welcome to the funny farm. :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2:

I'm not trying to argue with you about this gearing thing, heck, I own a VMAX, remember? I'm just saying that the 2nd Gen does what it does very well the way it comes from the factory. And to me, that's all that matters. If I ever decide to start pulling a trailer, things may be different. I'll deal with that when the time comes. And if I want something to go fast, I'll get the hotrod out of storage. I think it will quench whatever impulse I may get as far as a need for speed. Besides, I'm 58 years old, what have I got to prove??

Some of us don't need a dragracer for a touring bike! Although I have been toying with the idea of the Vmax rear end.

Another option is Diamond R Accessories. They sell the hidden hitch. Without the stinger in, you'd never know there was a hitch installed.

Now that's what I'm talking 'bout!!!!:mo money::banana:

Occasional oil warning mystery
Kirby replied to tz89's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Same thing on a 1gen VMAX. It's called the poor man's shift light!!You'll probably only see this if getting on it pretty hard in the first three gears. Put in just a little more oil and see if it still does this. Don't overfill!!- 4 replies

I've tried just about everything I can think of and some of the coating just will not turn loose!! Good luck, if you find a way to clean it all off, post it here.

Stick around, we're going to have some fun. Keep the RSTD, you may get tired of buying the HD clothes.

The one where the '83, '83, '83, '84, '85, and the '86 are stored. Typically have to have more than one for parts!! :dancefool::dancefool:
