I may be purchasing a bike that has sat for 3 years. I am sure I should do something before trying to crank it. I was thinking of poping out the plugs and spraying some type of oil in the cylinders. And of course cleaning out the carbs and all the normal crap. but I am worried about the rings after sitting so long.. BTW, its not a venture, I will be keeping my venture, this is just a toy! Thanks

I had pretty much the same issue, I changed the wires and plugs (bought them on Ebay as a package deal) and the bike runs great!!! not real expensive either> -
Turn signal issue
cpudoc replied to cpudoc's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Resolution: Found that the "start" button was broken. I took it apart to clean the contacts and they (the bottom 2) fell apart. I spliced the wires together and put the switch back. The start contacts were fine. I tried the turn signals and still the left rear was out but they were blinking. Found under the seat a wire came out of the connector...... All is fine, thanks for all the suggestions!!!!! -

ECK, No turn signals at all!!!!! The bulb has been tested, I have not checked voltage yet or the ground. (Damm work gets in the way of my fun!) The 4 way switch is an ineresting place to start. If I get home in time this evening, I will try that as well as any other suggestions you all may have..... Thanks -

If I was to start with a baseline adj on the carbs, what would it be. I know that the Idle air screws are 2.25 out, but what about the screws in between the carbs?

I took all the origional crap out!!! I got a nice sony head unit 25 Watts Per and new speakers. I mouted it in the origional location with a Jenson marine enclosure, took some modification but it looks and works great. The head unit has an AUX in, that is where I hook my MP3/Satelite radio (Steletto 100). The sony that I got has a wired "joystick" style remote which I mountd on the Clutch resevior, that is the best feature!!! Good luck!

Can the baffles in the stock pipes (83)be drilled? I would like a better tone, but do not want to buy pipes at this time. If they can, has anyone done it and do you like the tone? I dont want an obnoxious tone, just some more "bark" Thanks

Warning light on my '87
cpudoc replied to dkaiser's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I cut a little peice of black tape and fit in the hole where the red light is. Presto, no flashing light (it distracts me something horrible) My headlight Icon is on due to the fact that the previous owner wired up the headlights instead of trying troubleshoot the starter switch. -
Just plug the outlets near the carbs? I assume there are 4 ports that I need to plug?

I have read about taking this out of the system, what is it and how do I take it out of the system?????? Thanks

I have been using seafoam in my Venture, cars and boat for years, but besides the gas tank, I usually suck a couple oz's into the brake booster vac line and let it sit for 10 min. This gets the valves wet with full strengh seafoam and desoves the carbon build up. Is there any vaccuum line on my venture that will feed all cylinders? Or maybe a differant way of doing this? Thanks

Wow guys, what a help you have been!!!!!! I just got the tank cover sprayed with the base coat, wow, I am very pleased at this point!!!! I started by repairing the small holes and imperfections, sanding with 400, than 600. Sprayed sandable primer and sanded that @ 800. Wow was it smoothe! I than used the techniqes that were mentioned with the "Rattle can" and sprayed 3 nice coats. I, of coaurse, can see the small imperfections, but no one else will be able to. Now the question, should I hit it with wet 1200 before clear?????? I heard color sanding can give it that extra luster. Again, I can not thank you guys enough for the great advice. BTW I went with the Randya purple!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just picked my OEM one up at the steelership for 74 bucks, I figured since I ordered a bunch of new gaskets and filters it would be easier to just get it! BTW came with the new Electrolight sensor as well, what a bargin!!!!!!!

Thanks guys, I think the spraying is gonna be OK. I am concerned about the finish, meaning the clear coat and making it shiney. I understand that if I spray 2 coats of clear and then sand it with the 1200, then buff it, it will be shinney? Is this correct?

OK, heres the deal. I got all the paintable covers off and need to make them one color. I hope to get some advice when painting them with a spray can. I sanded them and am repairing the broken parts. What is the best techniqe to use? I plan on priming them and sanding the primer with 1200 sand paper before shooting them with the can. after a couple of coats of base, I plan on 2 coats of clear. Is this a good plan? I would love to take them to someone to have it done, but its just not in my budget. Thanks for any advice.... Ron
