Computers are Harleys. They're great and amazing devices, you can really customize them, but they don't last forever and you often need to totally rebuild the engine (complete reinstall as stated earlier.) They have memory leaks, the registry gets fouled, etc... computers and harleys are like dog years- you have to count 7 years for every 1. If Yamaha only made computers we could go 10 years with just the occasional defrag... Seriously, I teach in a lab (and have for 12 years now) and you would see a HUGE benefit from a complete reinstall. I re-image my lab every year and it's a real shot in the arm for the computers... But at 8 years, I'd definitely suggest looking into a new computer before spending more than $15 on the current one. Spend time, not $$ on a computer that old. If that still doesn't fix it, then try a new computer, but wait until October with system 7 coming out (much more stable than Vista and less taxing on the system.) If all you do is internet and basic office type apps (probably what your're doing with a computer that old) you can get one of those new net book computers for around $300. Very portable, lightweight, as powerful as what you have now, and have neat goodies like camera and mic built in for video chats (great for seeing the relatives that live far away!). Any desktop you buy today will be at least 4x stronger than what you have now. Nobody has talked about the real question: what do you want to do with your computer? IF you only want to do what you've always done, I'd say just re-install everything and it will feel like a spring chicken (it's a complete engine rebuild on that harley). If you want to start doing more, then your wishes will dictate what kind of machine you should get.

Here is South Fl it's about the only time you CAN ride without melting into a puddle.

here it is for everyone: 1 Can Ro-Tel chile and tomatoes (the only cheat since it's canned) 5-6 roma (plum) tomoates- finely diced 1/2 onion finely diced 1 clove garlic finely minced dash of salt (to taste- i prefer very little or none- the chips have enough!) a dash of red wine vinegar (to taste- i prefer very little) To make it spicier, double the onion and garlic, and add some Cayanne pepper (add pepper to taste.) I also experiment with other spices- Garlic pepper, Blackening seasoning, etc... but the recipe at top is the basic recipe... AMAZING at a football game or party. Always goes in no time flat! And for those of you that haven't known the joy of rotel queso- Simply mix a can of rotel with a block of velveeta cheese (diced to make it melt faster) and nuke it for a few minutes until it's hot cheesy goodness or drop it in a crock pot (stir frequently so it doesn't burn/curdle). Easy and shockingly good!

Also look into tybee island... Only about 15 minutes from Downtown Historic, but a neat place to stay... It's been many moons since college for me, but I loved tybee!! Get some beach time in the evenings! Probably cheaper, too!!! You can also stay in Pooler or Garden City (to the west), which is also very close (10 minute drive) and it will be really inexpensive. Nothing to see in either of those towns, though!

Hmmm... I may take you up on that! I will, in fact, be coming thru Jax on Sunday morning!!! Does it take long to do??? rs

Already glad, and already feel like a member, sis! :-) This is absolutely an amazing group. I've been raving about you guys to my whole MC club (360bikers.com). There's a couple people from there that should be members here soon!!!

Depends... Who bakes the pies???? LOL! Wherever is easiest and I'll be the least trouble! I think you might be the only one that's offered a night's stay that I can remember... But I'm flexible! I'm just so grateful for all the offers. I'm coming in at 5:30, so maybe we can go over to get the bike, and all share dinner that night? A mini-meetup!!! If we eat at someone's house I have a great homemade salsa recipe! And if we eat out, I'll insist on buying dinner for whoever's loaning me a couch for the evening! :-D

Silly question on 2000 MM venture
screamstone replied to screamstone's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The more I learn about this bike... the more i LOVE it. I can't believe how excited I am. The bike and this community are as close to perfect as it gets!! -
Hey guys... I bought my bike on ebay and I'm going to pick it up in 2 weeks... wondering about 12v DC "cigarette" ports... Does my bike have any or will I need to install for my GPS to get juice? Sorry about the silly Q, I haven't even seen the bike in real life yet!!!
-
Wow!! That's so generous! I'll pm you with details, I may have another person with me, so I don't know if that changes it for you. But to answer the question, I love apple pie!! I also have a great homemade salsa recipe I can bring!!! I can't wait to start meeting you guys!! I'm still shocked at what a friendly and amazing group of people are here!!! And I'd love to get some help tweaking the carbs for whoever mentioned it. I've read the pages on it but its still Greek!

Oops.. I forgot to tell you where in South FL... I'm in Wellington, it's the west end of West Palm Beach area (really close to Lion Country Safari!) Oh, and it looks like I'll be trying to fly in the night of the 28th, and then start heading home on the new baby on the 29th in the am... I was a youth pastor a few years in college in Savannah, and I hope to visit some of my old "kids" down there...

I'm really impressed with all the generous support and amazing replies! I'm already so happy to be a part of this community! I'm glad to hear I have a fresh little baby, and I'm looking forward to meeting many of you in real life! I may just take one of you up on that offer for a ride!!! I was actually just joking, since I was researching public transport up there to see how to get from the airport to the dealer! I'm really amazed at the incredible generosity of the offers for a ride! I'm already proud to be a venture rider! This is obviously an amazing, friendly, generous group!!! You guys are really amazing! I'm starting to ramble- sorry! just so you guys know who you're talking to... here's a pic from my 3 day ride down the coast and up the mountains in CA just a month ago... Thanks again for your quick and supportive replies!

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forums, just won a bid on ebay for this: http://www.thundertowerharley.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?veh=644&pov=1345399 It's a 2000 RSV MM edition with 56K miles and a trailer. I'm hoping that the mileage isn't an issue, I've heard it isn't. I got hooked on long rides this past summer in california on a rented harley Road Glide, and did some research and ended up with a RSV as an answer!!! I paid 7900 OTD for the bike. I pick it up in 2 weeks. Anyone live out near Columbia that wants to give me a lift from the airport to go get it??? hahahah!!! Here's crossing fingers to a chirp free and long milage venture!!! I locally almost bought an 02 with 30K miles... but I love the idea of the trailer and really dig the look and uniqueness of the MM model, so I jumped! Input? Is 55K miles long in the tooth or just a baby??? (or a teenager?) I feel like this! This looks like a great group! Looking forward to meeting all of you guys!
