Hey gang! I'm shopping for a new GPS- leaning toward the 550, but don't like that the price is higher than the model number! Right now I have a 360 (garmin car GPS) and it does work OK for me. Here's the question- What are the differences between units? I thought it would be nice to compile a list on the following issues for GPS: 1- Buddy Rich compatible?? (Y/N) does it allow you to use bike intercom system with BR cable if there's bluetooth? (question 6) yes/no 2- MP3? - (Y/N) plays mp3 files so you don't have to hook up your ipod? yes/no 3- XM/Serius/whatever (Y/N/A) - I don't wanna pay for radio, but lots of people love it!! yes/no/adapter required 4- Map updates - F/P Free or paid? 5- import online map routes? (y/n/3) yes, no, 3rd party product needed... Can it get routes off of gmaps, mapquest, downloaded into the unit so you can plan the trip before you go? 6- Bluetooth? (A/D/N) Answers only, dials also (integrated address book), or NO bluetooth for phone connections when riding... 7- Waterproof? (Y,B) Yes, or requires baggie!!! :-) Not sure what other features are needed... I really am most interested in 1, 2, and 5,6... 4 would be nice if they were free!!! Don't care much about 3. Any other important features Missing?

where does one get these magical "leveling links???" I'd love to have her be a tad more nimble- especially at slower speeds. At 6' another inch high won't bother me at all.

I think I'm still not sure what these do... I practice a lot on the "Ride Like A Pro" video stuff and I'm not that good yet- so I put it on it's side already about 5 times... No damage except scraping the bottom of the crash bars (that I've seen) I'm guessing these will be good for me so I don't stress the cowlings??? Aren't the front crashies mounted to the plastic?? (not on the bike right now... My laptop mount is broken... hehehe...) rs

Saddle bag (adjustments)
screamstone replied to crockettrider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
did ya try loosening the screws that hold on the latching tongues and pulling them down? Seems to me there's a little play in those. and my 2000 bags don't always close by just dropping them, sometimes I need to give 'em a little push. I put trim on the trunk- and that needs a BIG push now- but not as bad as before I adjusted the tongues- wouldn't even close at first with the trim.- 10 replies

For $25 a year you can get a flickr pro account, which lets you upload the full size image files of all your pics. A great way to backup. Local backups are good (like external drives/file servers/etc...) but if the house burns down, it's going to take your server, too. Flickr is online and offsite, and they have their own redundant backups, too. You can have private folders of private images nobody can see if you need that. For $25 a year, to never lose baby pics, wedding pics, old family photos... you can't beat that! I lost a bunch of baby photos and pics from high school in a hurricaine. Never again. rs

yeah- I've been thinking about a battery- Some people talk about upgrading to some kind of gel battery? The battery looks like the original OEM- so it's 9 years old!
-
WHEW!!!! After a trickle charge she started up just fine... I didn't even have to get into the fuses!
-
Charging now. Where are fuses? Lower right fairings ? Near right foot?
-
So i drained the battery the other day by leaving it on Today I tried one of those jump starters that plugs into the wall. Heard some popping and it didn't turn over. But the popping didn't sound good. Does that thing put out too much amperage? Did I kill it? How much is this going to cost??? :bawling: I guess it's time to send the seat to rick since I may not be riding a while...

Hey gang... I'm gonna try to make it, too... As long as the ex can take the kids!!!

Holy schnikeys that looks sweet!!! I'd ride that anywhere!!! I love my MM, (and it's trunk), but if I had to get a second bike, THAT would be it. Looks AMAZING! -
Hey guys... Can you guys post the actual tire part numbers for your combos? I hear about the kumoho, but which tire? And apparently there's different sizes of the cobras and such?? I hear some saying to use the "thinner" version for the front some people use? I'm pretty interested in this. Especially for the reduced cost and increased milage- I'm really interested! I have a used bike and just don't know how old/many miles on the tires, plus, they're brickstones. if it's affordable, I'll switch now... rs

Front Blinker bulbs? (or led replacements)
screamstone replied to screamstone's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
yep- I got the metric stabilizers in my order. I decided not to go with the LED fronts, but I think I may have changed my mind... saw a guy coming at me today with really bright front runner/blinkers, and it looked nice and bright. I already ordered the clear lenses in the last order, so I will probably make the jump... BTW- when I made my first order, they sent me a discount code. If I knew that, I would have made a small purchase first, (maybe just dynamic clusters or taillight or something) then did the "big" order when I got the discount. Just a strategy someone else might benefit from... rs -
Front Blinker bulbs? (or led replacements)
screamstone replied to screamstone's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I went with the dynamic clusters and clear lenses, so I should get RTB with red RB and an amber turn... There's a great thread with them somewhere on the site with a couple videos. I'll also post vids when I'm done with mine... rs:thumbsup: -
Hey guys... I just got an email from Chrome glow- that's where everyone gets that great LED light bar that's in so many posts... (they also have the LED tail light). I told them about the forum and they sent me this: "In with your order I have included a 10% off coupon for your next purchase. Also, if you could post a promo code on the forum that would be great. This is an un-advertised special of 5% off entire order. Use promo venture5 " Looks like there's now one more advantage to being a VR member!!!

No problem!! I really got a lot out of your thread and also appreciate all your research for all of us, and that you share it here! I also used your threads on the passing lamps and ordered 50 and 35w par36's you recommended last night. Thanks for shedding so much light on the subject! -
Engine cutting out
screamstone replied to screamstone's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yep- It was your posts I was reading. It does sound exactly the same... I'm making that one of the first projects for me. How can I test the float? I've never seen the light on or the "F" in the ODO... and I ran it to empty on the trip home... -
Front Blinker bulbs? (or led replacements)
screamstone replied to screamstone's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Ok... so I took them out and I have 1157's up front. The bulb has 12v32/3cp on it, and I looked it up, it's an 1157. Defininitely a dual element bulb, with a high and low indexing pins 90 degrees off the contacts. So, mystery solved for the front. And based on your data, kite, I'll get the bright ones for up front. Thanks for the tip. rs -
Front Blinker bulbs? (or led replacements)

So.... the front stock signal lamps are single intensity??? I could have sworn that they were run/blinkers. Ugh... I've been working on this silly cart for WAAAAY too long now! I just want to be able to push "order!" -
Front Blinker bulbs? (or led replacements)
screamstone replied to screamstone's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Tail light is Already in the shopping cart!!! :-) I think I'm going to go with the incandescent upgrade for the front blinkers after looking at it more... They're not on enough to tank my amperage available, and I always keep passing/driving lights on up front. The upgraded incandescents that kitesquid talked about are really bright when blinking up front. And quite frankly... if the're in front of me, I don't care if they know I'm turning!!! It's not worth $50 to me to have front LED's. I'll just switch to 2357's -

Does this first item (BAZ15D-3 ) look like the weird oem front flasher bulb base??? http://www.customdynamics.com/bulb_identification_help.htm Looks like they're supposed to be dual intensity... isn't 7507 single intensity?
