I saw in a local shop they had "racing links" that had 3 different holes for "tuning" them. But they were pretty far apart, if 1/4 inch in linkage= 1 inch in height. The holes were probably at least 1/4 apart oc... I'd love to do my own, looks easy enough from freebird's post... I just don't have the tools. I do, however, take a certain pride in creating my own stuff for house, bike, car, etc... -
I'll try to post a pic later, since I took one with my phone... Here's my best ASCII rendition: (O====== OOO) So it was a "racing link" with a hole at one end, and then three holes at the other end. They have multiple sizes. one end has one hole, but then the other end has 3 holes to "Tune" the suspension. I figured if one of them happens to be 6 3/8 OC, I might just grab 'em. They were chromed and only around $50. I'll frankly probably end up having my friend machine them for me, or just getting the Diamond R's- but I was curious when I saw those "tunable" racing links.

Hey- Freebird's article says holes 6 5/8 apart OC... this the right distance for leveling links?? In the pic at the end of FB's article, the links looked the same size. Are the Diamond R links holes the same distance apart? I also saw some premade links at the local bike shop for only $50... Really nice looking, chromed. If I can't get in touch with my machining buddy, I may just grab those since I'm taking the tires off this weekend.

So I was reading a little while ago on a thread where Goose wanted a different gearing ratio so that he could ride at a little HIGHER RPM to imprive gas mileage. That seems backward. What is the best RPM to be cruising at on this bike??? I come from a 2 cylinder, so there I was used to keeping it low- like 2000-2500ish... Should I be riding this at a higher RPM to get the best mileage? On a second note,when I'm kinda riding hard and gunning it in the higher RPM's, it feels like the transmission is slipping sometimes, and then slowly grabs (over a second or so), almost like the clutch is a little in, even though my hand is off the clutch. That normal?

Another great pair of 'phones are the sony "Fontopia" that have the 3 different silicon ear pieces that are IN-CANAL headphones. That's the real secret. Buddy's cable only does one thing... it connects the intercom mics from your helmet into the zumo mic in. It doesn't do anything for sound out. You need to connect the headphone out jack from your GPS to the Aux in of the bike.

Hmm... so since I've never done this, I'm a tad confused still... when I take off the tire, I can remove the pumpkin with 4 acorn nuts... when I pull that off- I get the pumpkin with a shaft sticking out if it... I just can grease that and re-insert it? I don't think I want to take the shaft out of the pumpkin... and I'm not sure I even want to take the pumpkin off unless it's a really good idea for a total newb to do. I figure I can wait until another maintenance day or when I have an experienced VR with me. This will be my first real maintenance other than oil/lights. I don't know anyone close who can supervise, so I'm really on my own and a tad nervous... rs

I'm ashamed to admit that I've lived in FL all my life (I know... there's like 3 of us natives), and I've never been to Key West. Largo a bunch of times to dive... but never Key West. Hey Brakes... Let me know next time you're heading down... I'll follow you!!! I'm a teacher- so planning one in the next month or so when school's out!

Considering this while I'm doing everything else... What is the difference between installing leveling links and smaller front tire? (aside from overall higher/lower seat) Is there a handling difference between the two options or are they both basically the exactly same handling, just one inch or so difference in saddle height? I'm worried about the high speed "squirreliness" that i hear happens with smaller front tire. Do leveling links also do the same thing?

Those were perfect... I dunno how I missed those!! I did a search and didn't see those two... So do I need to remove the rear differential? And if so, is that where the oil seal needs to be replaced that I saw in This thread? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41660&highlight=grease+splines Or will I need the oil seal even if I don't take off the pumpkin? BTW- she's a 2000 MM edition with almost 60K on her. I am not sure what maintenance was done here in the past... But she seemed to be welll taken care of. rs

I've found a couple articles in here about greasing the rear splines and some hub pins... Will this be obvious when I take the rear wheel off? This will be my first time doing this kind of maintainance on a bike- but I've been doing more and more and seem to have managed to not break/ruin anything yet. So when I take off the rear wheel (and I need to get a tire, too), do I also need to remove the pumpkin/differential?? Or is the stuff I need to grease all back there? Also, do I need to replace some kind of oil seal when I just remove the rear tire, or is that only when I remove the pumpkin? Sorry for the newbish questions... I'm kind of a motorcycle maintenace virgin. Is there a pictoral wolk-through of this whole thing I should do when I have the tire off?

Harley Road glide with a big trunk added on... LOVE that fixed fairing- rode one and loved it,too. other than that, prob a goldwing. Never rode one but renting one for 4 days this summer... I'll let you know Jul 31 if they're still in this order...

What about just getting some blue colored tint for the speedo? Not sure how that would look/last.. but if it was important enough to ya- might be a solution. Of course, it would also make the dash darker at night. I think they have light blue tint, though.

Just ordered mine. They aren't really advertising yet because they're still perfecting the workflow- but they will put in the vents for the same price as clearview- $59 installed. It was right at 300 buckarooz for my large f4 with a vent. A little more than clearview- but seems worth it if they're as durable as everyone seems to say (and the youtube videos demonstrate!) It's just money!

Ok... threw my headsets into extra helmets and get how they all work... and I have an exo100... So i'm all set there, but I LOVE the idea of being able to use in-ear headphones... What's the edsets adapter? The sound in my JM's is REALLY thin. not sure the model... it was an ebay steal. EDIT: Found the adapter... so the 5-5 pin adapter just allows you to use other headphones with the factory system? SO I can use the JM mic and regular in-ear headsets??

I have the same helmet as the mech... can you show some pics on how you mounted it?? I just got a J&M and can't get it inbetween the liner and the shell.... I remember hers looked great and that's why I bought the J&M... Thanks!

Thanks For the info.. that explains intercom... One last clarification- If I wear helmet with headset in it, can I still talk thru mic and listen to CB thru speakers? Or does going thru speakers totally kill the headset connection (including mic). I'm finding this very difficult to test- nobody locally has a bike with a CB!!! (OR A CASETTE DECK!!! )

:Laugh: Yeah... I'm working on that!!!! I'd rather drop it slow with noone around than faster in traffic, though... So I don't mind so much when I let her lay down and take a quick nap!!! I only let her lay down when SHE wants to!!!!

Tried finding this already.. can't find a thread with the info. I just got all the wires and all for my intercom headsets. I, however, use a half helmet and would like to hear all audio out of the speakers. Passenger wants helmet speakers. I can hear CB & radio out of speakers, but not getting any intercom. Any tips? Or does intercom not go through speakers?
