  1. 50,000 or 400,000, whats a few thousand difference between friends? I do believe the 400,000 figure they give is high, but 50,000 is surely low. This thing packs hotels for 50 miles out. One explanation for why you don't see total traffic gridlock, might be because the events are spread out across 4-5 cities and not just in a central area. This is a 4-5 city area that has a population of 500,000, and they are used to handling and moving large crowds several times a year with events like the University of Arkansas games that bring in close to 100K crowds to the games. Whatever the count is, this is a fun, clean, well ran rally in a beautiful area of the middle part of the country.
  2. BBB is a very large rally, and very nicely ran. My wife and I attended 2 years in a row, but had to miss last year. I will be headed up to it this year with 2 cousins that ride a Beemer, and a V-Strom. It is said that it ranges from the 3rd to 5th largest rally in the nation. The attendance ranges from 150,000 to 300,000+ depending on the economy. All the major bike mfgs will be there giving test rides, and it is really cool because they are all set up in a huge parking lot, and you ride out into the area from there. You can ride one mfg, then go across the parking lot and ride another, then another. The whole area gets into the rally fever. Fayetteville, Rogers, Springdale, and Bentonville all have events that connect to the rally, be it motocross, stunt shows, a huge car show, live bands, and tons of other stuff. That part of the state has some of the best motorcycle roads in america. You'll see celebs. Three years ago my wife and I stayed in the same hotel as Jesse James and Sandra Bullock. He was there with his West Coast Choppers stuff. Lots of vendors. Thats where I bought my Rivco center stand for my RSTD. they installed it while I waited. Ultimate, Mustang, and other seat mfg will be there. Trailer mfgs, Chrome galor, Blue Tooth headset mfgs, clothing, its all there. You won't be disappointed if you chose to go.
  3. WOW, is right!! After reading all of this, it makes me wish i had been the Dude that invented SeaFoam! Heck, I have a computer that gets a little stopped up every now and again, I wonder if SeaFoam will help it? You know what? SeaFoam might be the answer to us having to take our Great Dane to the vet periodically. Just joking.
  4. Rick, What everyone has said about how easy it is is very true. I just did the clutch job on my RSTD last week. It was literally so easy, I thought there should've been more work to it. I ordered the kit from Skydoc. Get in touch with him, he is super helpful. Good luck.
  5. I have a question that I've always wondered about. I'm sure plenty of you that have the mental data to prove this, will settle this question in my mind. Q. What air temperature do these normally aspirated motors in the Ventures and RSTD's that we ride like the most? What I'm asking is, do they run and perform better in warm-hot (summer) temps, or do they run and perform better in cool-cold (fall/winter) temps? Or, is it a matter of air thickness, and barometric pressure? The reason I asked is, sometimes on cool or more comfortable days, my bike acts like it really likes it, and is a little more responsive. Am I imagining things, or is it just that I feel better on those days? Just wondering.
  6. Mine are coming due in July. It's $9.50. Our cars are $27.00. I love Arkansas!
  7. Hey Folks, Just wanted to let everyone know, I took your majority advice and installed Skydoc's clutch upgrade kit in my bike today. All I can say is, WOW! Not only did it correct the problem, it made the bike sooo much better coming out of the hole, and more torquey as I ran through the gears. Some said there would be about 15% harder pull on the clutch lever, but to be honest, I never really noticed it. What I did notice is, I didn't have to throttle it as much to take off in first gear, and the bike felt like it was pulling harder than it has in a while as I went through the power band in each gear. Pretty cool! No doubt the clutch has been slightly slipping for some time now without me really noticing it. Thanks so much for everyones help on this matter. I know it's been stated on another popular thread, but this has been many times worth the $12.00 member fee. BTW, The job was a piece of cake, as many of you stated. Earl was a big help by explaining in detail what I should expect. Also, the picture instructions that 93 Venture sent me was super helpful. It was so simple, I kept feeling like there should be more to it, but there wasn't. Lol. Thanks again, Lynn
  8. Fear the web mistress!!!
  9. Thanks Rick, I am going to install Earl's upgrade kit tonight. I feel sure, after all the information you and the other folks have given me, it will correct my problem. To tell you the truth, I have actually been wavering back and forth on whether I should just change back to the regular oil and see if that corrects it, but in the end, I just figured I should do the upgrade, and that way I shouldn't have to worry about it for miles to come. I'm anxious to see if it is as easy a job as everyone has said. Appreciate your concern, Lynn
  10. Twelve dollars, smelve dollars, who cares how much it is, I'll pay it! I don't know who Don is, but I hope he gets filthy rich off this site, because he is providing an extremely valuable product that I now feel like I can't do without as long as I own my RSTD. BTW, has anyone noticed that this guy hasn't responded to any of the posts since he posed his rude question? What's up with that?
  11. Oh Man! I hate to hear that! You didn't give the details of the crash, but it certainly sounds like you took a hard fall. Take your time to recover, and hopefully you'll be ready to get back in the saddle sooner than you think.
  12. Thanks to all for your suggestions and coaching. I ordered both of the kits from Earl today, and he is overnighting them to me. I hope to be able to give a good report back tomorrow night after I finish the job. It's incredible how much knowledge you folks have about these bikes. It certainly gives me a peace of mind knowing I can always turn to you guys (and gals) to find the answers to the various issues that may arise on my bike. Thanks again.
  13. I just had a buddy of mine (BMW rider) asked if it is true that the problem is the clutch spring, wouldn't it slip in every gear? So, I guess that is a valid question I need answered. As I stated above, this happened in different gears at different shift points and acceleration points. Is that common for this problem?
  14. Gunboat, It has 24,000 on it. I bought it new in June of 2008. It is still under warranty, but I assume they would say this is a wear item and not covered. All the feedback that you folks have given me has me fired up about getting the parts in and getting it done. I'm certainly interested in buying Skyroc's product. I emailed him earlier today to see if I could pay to have it overnighted. he hasn't returned my email yet. We have a ride scheduled for this coming weekend, and I'm anxious to get it done. I assume, as several others have said, you found it to be an easy and simple fix? Lynn
  15. Maybe the next question I have is.....Does anyone know where I can read a detailed explanation of how to change the clutch spring?
  16. So....I take from the different comments that there is a slim chance that changing from regular 10W-40 to Semi Synthetic 20W-50 could be the cause of slight slippage?
  17. So...I'm guessing Squidley is a talker?
  18. Is the clutch spring covered under the 5 yr warranty? Its still under warranty.
  19. Its Yamalube Performance Semi-Syn 20W-50. Up until now I have been using Yamalube Performance All Purpose 10W-40.
  20. Hey folks, I need your expertise. Today my wife and I took a quick ride to grab a bite, and basically clear the cobwebs before we start another weeks work. As I was pulling out of the neighborhood, going through the gears getting up to speed, in 4th gear the bike revved a little and it sounded like clutch slippage. It was so quick and faint that I wasn't sure that I had actually experienced it. then we stopped at a red light. As we pulled away from the light, in 3rd or 4th, I can't remember which gear, it did it again. This time I felt for sure that it was clutch slippage. A mile or so after that, we hit an entrance ramp and got on the freeway. After I clicked it into 5th, and was throttling up to 70 mph, it revved again. From that point on it never did again. While we were eating, I remembered that a couple weeks ago when I rode it last, it had done the same thing once as I was pulling out of our neighborhood, but then didn't do it again the rest of the day. I thought then that I had imagined it, but not today. I know what I experienced today. So, my question is, 3 weeks ago I changed the oil, and for the first time I used synthetic oil, could the synthetic oil be causing slippage? The bike is a 2007 RSTD with 24k miles and has been perfect up until now. Please advise.
  21. I like the black one. I like the lower profile, and the extra rack on the front for your ice chest.
  22. Hmmm. We rode 400 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway 2 days after we rode some of the Natchez Trace, and in our opinion the BRP blows the Trace away. High elevations, amazing scenery, cooler temps, numerous tunnels, etc. Now that is a road that I would find it hard to be bored on.
  23. Thats pretty cool! Great tool for comparing the different bikes.
  24. Yeah, what he said.
  25. Okay, now after reading edissy's post, I'm starting to think our total boredom experience on the Trace from Tupelo to Cherokee wasn't out of the norm.
