http://www.psychobike.com/forums/attachments/turbo-nitrous/132017d1382876549-turbocharging-6-cyl-valkryie-turbocharged-1800-gold-wing.jpg Not a whole lot of info other than this thread I ran across: http://www.psychobike.com/forums/turbo-nitrous/152385-turbocharging-6-cyl-valkryie.html Kinda has me thinking about the supercharged Goldwing chopper I saw In a guy's shop when I bought my last batch of Venture parts from him. No pics on that one, I should have asked him if I could snap a couple, but I was in a rush.

What is this bracket tab for?
Great White replied to Great White's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Kind of a strange spot for a floorboard, but whatever floats yer boat I guess. I had a look at the Venture line brochure and didn't see "children's floorboards" or any extra floor boards at all besides the driver floor board option. I suppose if you were REALLY short (or a kid) the location might make sense. I think I'll just cover them with an extra reflector or something along those lines.... -

Here's one with "something" in that spot: http://www.powersportsinventory.com/photo/15532_1989-yamaha-venture-royale.jpg Can't tell what it is though.... -

Found a pic of an 89 with same bracket: http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e369/RR322/YamahaVenture002_zps3231a641.jpg The rest of his pics reveal its only on the rh support. Nothing on the lh side. Mine has both. -

There was nothing on there when got them and any pics i can find on the net dont even show the tab there. Theres one on each side and they sure look oem. Welded and chromed like the rest of the support. Any ideas?

1987 venture royale
Great White replied to blaine1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
For the air suspension, make yourself a little soap and water solution in a squirt bottle. Then trace down all the places there's joints in the air lines. Squirt a little of your solution on the joints and when/if it bubbles you've found your leak... -
For curiosities sake, I plopped the 85 top box down on the 86 side boxes: http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r618/justonepict/DF2DEE33-EFE9-425D-A445-7BE51FAE8991_zpsdzpofhdz.jpg Daum, that looks big! I know its the same size as the 86+ top boxes (except its removable) but it sure makes everything just look big. Guess I'm just used to my 83's more "athletic" looking rear end.....

I guess they'll make for a reasonable starting point: http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r618/justonepict/EBD510F4-FC88-4AB5-AC4C-6E63F1148B2E_zpsxcfo50xx.jpg The pic actually makes them look not too bad, but they're pretty rough in person....

I'm....ummmm....kinda past just dragging peg feelers........ cant find em at the moment, but ive seen mkii pics where the bars have been dragged. I thinknit was a tail of the dragon thread that had the pic in it im thinking about....
-
well, yes and no. On one hand, I could use the extra space on longer trips (not so much day to day). On the other hand, the way I ride I'm a little worried the wider crash bars may start grounding on corners like I've seen in some pics of MKII's on twisty roads. I get enough grounding of pegs and stands on my 83 the way it is already. I suppose I could always mount slider pucks on the crash bars if they are a bit low and just let 'er burn 'em down.....

YICS keep or throw?
Great White replied to garyS-NJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
For sure. The airbox scheme is to keep it under slight vacuum, which aids in relieving crankcase pressure. As I mentioned, it would likely run just fine with a breather instead, I just personally wouldn't. -
YICS keep or throw?
Great White replied to garyS-NJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
YICS was shown to improve emissions and fuel mileage. There were some claims of more power, but I personally think that was a bit of smoke and mirrors. YICS can be removed and capped, lots have done it. Some report better power and better MPG, but I'd take all that with a grain of salt. My YICS is staying in place until I slide the VMax heads on my engine. Then the YICS has to go: VMax heads weren't designed for YICS. Honestly, I'm not sold on YICS anyways. The telling moment for me was when the FJ1100 was released in 84. Yamaha dropped YICS on the FJ1100 because (according to Yamaha releases) the YICS scheme "showed no advantage on the FJ1100". What they didn't tell people was the FJ100 was virtually the same as the XS1100 heads where they defended YICS against all commers.....hmmm...... Crankcase vent is a different story. It was meant to evacuate the crankcase under vacuum. You probably will run fine without it, I just wouldn't. Cheers -
Size difference is actually considerable. In the 83 saddleboxes I can get my bike cover and that pretty much fills one box. Sure, I can stuff a few small items in around it, but the cover (stuffed into it's storage bag) essentially fills one whole saddle box. I took the cycle cover and dropped it in the 86 saddle box. Then I put my frog togg suit (in it's storage bag) In with the cycle cover. With both those items in the 86 side box, there was still some room left. Not a lot, but some. I'm still not a fan of the wider look, the fake rear "bumper" chrome Or not being able to see the rear tire, but it's hard to argue with that extra storage capacity. I'm also not a fan of burying that tail light further under body work, but turning the upper and lower reflectors in to running/brake lights will help that. Not liking the turn signals being so small or down so low, I'll have to think about that one. And there's an "S" load of body work and repairs to be done before I can even consider paint and/or re-chrome. Still not sold on it......close, but not sold. trailer is pretty much out as an option. Kind of ruins the whole idea of having a bike for me....

Prayers for my wife
Great White replied to kbran's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
I am not particularly religious, but I will offer my best wishes for successful procedure a speedy recovery. -
So I made it home and pulled al the saddlebag stuff out of the attic. Yeah, its in rough shape. Plastics aren't the problem, that's fairly easily fixed with a bit of bodywork and paint. The chrome prices are pretty rusty and scratched. It's either rechrome them or maybe go to a black paint scheme. Hmmm, that nice deep wine color and black might look pretty darned nice.....

I honestly found them kind of boring to ride compared to a regular transmission. Never owned one because of that fact. Usually a 400 is small and light so its fun to get it boiling in tight corners, but the autotrans (as I recall) even threw a wet blanket on that fun too. They were still Hondas though, so they were pretty reliable. Relegated to commuter status by almost everyone which, if I remember correctly, was Hondas target audience with that model. Kind of trying to get "non motorcycle people" on motorcycles. I know they used to somewhat desirable to convert into "handicapped" sidecar haulers for wheelchairs with remote controls. I've seen a couple conversions in my time but that seems to have faded out. Probably beciase they're just old now. I'd pass, but that's just me. Not my kind of ride....

Horns are actually kind of directional in most applications. Most of the sound projects out of the opening. MC "horns" are more like buzzers than horns. Meaning; it just a buzzing diaphragm without a chamber to develop the sound. They're trying to make it less directional, but it just ends up being weak everywhere. Electric car horns ar e directional, truck air horns are even more directional. If you want loud horns, go get a high/low set for a car. Point them forwards and then get two more and point them left and right. Look for something labeled in the 110 db range. Those tend to be labeled as "European" horns (although they may have a funny sound to NA ears). Most NA car horns are in the 95-110 db range and don't have quite the "shock factor" Garan-gawd-damned-teed when you hit 4 of those mothers, everyone around you is going to hear you...maybe even mess themselves. Another option that may be available at you local junkyard is a set of Cadillac 4 tone horns. They literally are 4 horns and man, are they bloody loud!

I'm a little confused, are you talking about me or my wife? Ya gotta be really careful these days...... But, if you mean the wife: better. And that's all I've got to say about that....

I'm lucky that way in my house: fattest butt is mine.....

I think I have a plan, at least one thaysbset in jello. I'm going to strip down the 86 bags I got off "The Pile" and see if they are structurally sound. If they're not, I'll see if they are repairable. If they are, I'm going to send them out to be color matched to the 83's color. I'll send the 85 top box out to also be color matched. Then I'll fire up the sewing machine and stich myself up matching covers for the 86 seat and the 85 top box pad. While I'm at it, I'll stitch up some cloth bags for the side boxes since they aren't removable. The chrome bracing is all sort of "so-so" and have seen better days. I'll try polishingnit up first and send it out for chroming if necessary. I'm not planning to install the 86 chin fairing, but I'll send that out for paint too just to give me the option if I want it. Everything will get keyed alike so 1 key will work it all. All the 83 oem stuff will get bubble wrapped and carefully srored away in case I chnage my mind and go back to it. The 86+ bikes just look so much like they've got a big fat butt that I'm not completely sure I'm going to like it once on there. I really don't like fat butts......

Well, nature may abhore a vacuum but the wife is just fine with it when it comes to an empty garage!
