On topic response: Any aftermarket seat is going to be a bit hit and miss. They all try for the "middle of the road" seat. They have too in order to sell lots of them. Custom fitted seats are great, but expensive and it's hard to come by someone who knows what they are doing. Mine is an 83, but I went with a sheepskin pad and I have some seat beads on the way to try out. The sheep skin was pretty good, 5-6 hour day with no problems. We'll see what the beads do, but they get good reviews. I actually also got a lot of comfort out of draping a doubled up towel over the seat. Was suggested by a member here....

Oh, I'm sure someone will be along to give it a good smack!

Ignition switch and key question
Great White replied to clav_guy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Try a little lubricant first. Of it turns to lock, then the key is still activating the tumblers fine. It's either sticking in that direction or its possible you have a fault in the switch contacts (ie: bent up edge, etc) that is catching. I'd lean towards an internal fault given the description, but shoot a touch of lube down the tumblers and see what cha get. -
Holy crap man! That is some great info, thanks! I'm not really an IT guy, but I can follow that and thanks for the simple how to fix the router thing. There's enough of my personal type info out there as it is. Don't need more floating around. I've been "hacked" once. I don't care to have it happen again. I close as many holes as I can, when I can.....

spitting at 55 to 62 mph
Great White replied to Bog13's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The symptoms you describe pretty much sound like "lean surge" in a carbureted automobile. Usually because the fuel pump can't keep up with the engine demand (usually a fuel pump dying). Fuel filter is a good starting point. I'm not "up" on second gen stuff that well (one of the more experienced 2nd gen guys can speak to this) but don't the 2nd gen models have a bit of a dodgey fuel pump reputation? -
well, that was a fun day in the hospital....

My family is a little different. My grandfather died of malignant hypertension and my uncle lost his kidneys from high blood pressure. Runs in the family I guess. my blood pressure is always been OK, but runs a little to the high side. Nothing horrible, usually somewhere in the mid to high 120s and mid to high 80s. The last time they did my blood pressure was running 149/117. That's pretty high for me. But, I've also been diagnosed with PTSD from my work. i'm pretty sure my blood pressure is running high right now is more in my mind that in my body. The doctor tends to agree, but wants to see the numbers down all the same. That's why she put me on the water pill... -
Lol! nah, not my style of bike. Maybe if im still able to swing a leg in 30 years it might be though...

Good lord, I don't think I've ever paid more than 5000 (up front, not counting "improvements") for any bike I've ever owned. I just can't imagine 27,000...

Yes please!

Not terrified at all, just cautious. Microsoft has a bad track record with this sort of thing. Not whether or not it works, but the hidden "gotchas". They're a business and always look for the advantage, BUt IMHO they just usually want too much advantage. Always trying to dig "sellable" info out of their customers. Just like Apple, google, yahoo, etc.....

Oh, I just snap up a fistfull whenever I run across someone junking a bike with 25 mm shims or if a batch pops up cheap on ebay or something similar. Have an assortment of about 40 or so now. Always on the hunt for more. But "opportunity buys" only.
-
I'm actually in the process of building up a kit. Still collecting shims. Them little buggers don't come easy or cheap!

Small point: his is an 83 which would be internally vented discs, 86+ was the solid discs with slots. Many have just dropped r1/6 calipers on the stock discs without changing to floating discs. Same as the 4 pot calipers on the 86+ models. I would suspect the 4 pots are why the 86+ mc is reported to work fine with the r1/6 calipers: its prob a 14mm piston. That's what's been posted on the forum before, although I haven't confirmed that for myself yet....

Yup, lots of discussion on the net about that. Pretty open for the boys at "Bills toyshop" to do whatever they want.....

I've been on blood pressure meds for about 3 weeks now. They recently just upped my dose. It's nothing serious as far as meds go. It's commonly known as "the water pill". Restricts your sodium if I've got it right. Well, I've been getting little "twinges" in my chest since I started taking them. Lat time I was int he MIR I mentioned them to the nurse and she said for me to come in next time it happened so they could get an EKG. She didn't make it sound like a big deal at all. So I'm sitting at my desk this morning and I realize I'd forgotten to take my pill. I tell the boys I'm running home and will be right back. I get home and take my pill. Then, about 10-15 minutes later I'm standing in the driveway and getting my gear on to ride back to work. I start getting the "twinge" but it's mostly gone by the time I pull into the parking lot at work. I shut the bike off and start walking into the building and realize my chest is tight and my breath is shallow. Well, I figure I'll just run over to the MIR like the nurse wanted and they'll just run a nice simple EKG to confirm it's nothing. I drop into the clinic and tell the receptionist what's going down. The nurse comes out and leads me into the examination room (which is OK by me, she's a hottie! ) Well, then the world just comes right frigging apart! I'm getting wires hooked up, needles poked, aspiring shoved down my throat and nitro sprays! The nitro hits me so hard I almost pass out. My BP goes from 149/110 to 102/74 in about as much time as it takes me to type it! Doctors are coming in and out and they're contemplating all sorts of things they might (or might not do). Seems my symptoms "somewhat" conform to cardiac, but I'm atypical since I don't exhibit classical symptoms. Jeez, it's not pain guys, just discomfort. Next they want to transfer me to a civy hospital. I text my wife (also works on base) and she heads over. I'm thinking she can drive me since it's only about 10 minutes away (they won't let me ride the bike!) Well my wife shows up in the parking lot and some base protocol must have kicked in when they reported a patient with chest pains because the firefighters have the trucks outside, are running in to the MIR with defib packs, the Military police are clearing out the parking lot and an ambulance is pulling in! One of the FF's asks my wife if her name was "XX" and she goes into full on terrified mode! She was terrified I might have crashed while she was on the way over and has a freak out attack! The hospital staff is also calling my Chief and scaring the crap out of him as all they told him was that I was cardiac! Sheesh! So I get the missus calmed down when she see's I'm fine, just hooked up to a bunch of monitors. They bundle me up on a gurney and out into the ambulance I go. I'm usually on the other side of this, loading people into an ambulance, not being loaded in to it myself! My wife goes to pick up a few things at work and she runs into my Chief. She explains the situ to him and he's relieved. Then she gathers up some stuff from home and meets me at the hospital. Then it's a day of laying on a bed, people taking blood, xrays and whatnot. Sheesh. I think you missed looking up my colon guys....... 8 hours after this all started, they pop out "you're OK", release me, the wife drives me back to the base and I ride the bike back home. What a day! Just for a chest "twinge". I think maybe next time I'll just keep my trap shut unless it's pain.....

The "free" upgrade is sitting on my drive. I'm waiting at least a few months to see what other users shake out of it first. I'm not so sure I like the "APP bar" instead of the folders. Time will tell how it works for others....

41R TCI Compatibility Question
Great White replied to Vonwolf's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The TCI gets blamed so very often for ignition problems. Whether it's an old bike of the newest car you can buy, it always pays to confirm the little things are correct first. -
Driver backrest. Who's got one? What do you think of it?
Great White replied to Great White's topic in Watering Hole
Dingy did a similar thing using (IIRC) an Harley bracket. That would likely be my preferred method. I'm more of a "builder" than a "buyer".... -

I have highway pegs on my 83. When I'm husseling down a backroad, I want my feet back under men more standard/sportbike style. When I'm droning down the highway, I want my feet in the breeze (keeps my jimmies happy!) -
Antennae up and stay safe. Qatar isn't so bad if you're in the capitol, but keep your eyes open. Mostly just because of the region you're in. I try to be respectful of their culture, stay in known areas and never travel anywhere alone when off duty. Like, we go in groups of at least 5-10. It's just something we've gotten in to doing. I'm sure you'll get "the brief" when you hit the ground there.... stay safe.

I need a TCI for my '84 XVZ12
Great White replied to garyS-NJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Nah, it's not that they found gold in them. It's that ebay has become a horrible place to buy anything. Overpriced, lots of scams and if they don't get you on the price they overprice on the shipping charges. Just not the place it used to be when it started out. It's been infested by greed. I try to use it as little as possible, but unfortunately, it's often the only place you can find that rare part you need....
