The reception Nancy has gotten from the birth family is AMAZING ! They WANT a connection with her, even though they have been separated for 44 years ALL of them say she has ALWAYS been a part of the family. Nancy now has her adopted mother, birth mother, birth uncles/aunts, 1/2 brother on her Facebook friends list. The text messages and phone calls have been daily. Oh...and Nancy's birth GRANDMOTHER called her tonight to say how happy she is to have her back and that she is ready to rent a hall so she can meet the ENTIRE family !!!!! Nancy talked to her mother and father (adopted parents) and gave them another update. We asked them what they think of all this and as typical parents they are happy for Nancy. They know that they are Nancy's PARENTS and always will be. Heck...Nancy's mother even added Nancy's birth mother to her friends list on Facebook !!!! Each day seems more amazing than the previous. That Nancy has received such a welcoming from her birth family is beyond words and expectations.

Our own BongoBob finally gets his YouTube debut, CONGRATS BONGO!!

Sorry guys... I've seen Bob's trike several times, even with Becky on the back. Maybe he saves showing it off to his closest friends.... us CANADIANS ! -
Glad you didn't get seriously injured ! Learn from your mistake and thank you for sharing for the rest of us to learn from.

Still best if you can keep the rubber side down. Rubber against pavement will give you control and shorter stopping distance. Metal against pavement doesn't give you fricktion and you just slide.

Based on the year of your machine, you wouldn't have the "updated" basket. You've probably read that the "i" basket has fixed it for some but being out of warranty you'll have to pay to get one and it may or may not fix it - this is due to the straight cut gears. For others there was an alignment issue that was fixed with shims. Think there was a reference to a Yamaha bulletin about it. Again, it fixed it for some but not all. Type of oil also made a difference for some. Wish you luck with the dealer. If they've seen this before and are familiar with the Venture they may be able to help you. As mentioned, the Venture is a great touring bike. With yours the whine is probably the only problem, but not necessarily an easy one to fix.

Yamaha has been developing inline 3 cylinder engines...even that would be better than a twin. Much as I like new vehicles... I've got too much invested in my '09 so unless I were to get a buyer that would pay me enough to cover all the extra's, or unless the bits and pieces could be transferred to a new model... I'll be staying with the '09 for some time.

I did a similar thing a couple years ago where I was prepared to go thru a yellow light but the guy in front of me decided to stop. It is funny how things go in slow motion and how lack of sleep or not feeling well can impact your reaction time. I came down with a head cold the other night and when I was riding home from work the next day I saw cars at an exit taking to the shoulder and without the cold I would have realized they did it because they were taking evasive action. With the delay, like you I locked up the rear. I find when I lock the rear I try to give more front brake or let off the rear and try again, or take evasive action. You are lucky no one was in the intersection and that somehow you had a clear path to continue thru. I'm glad you made it thru what could have been a mishap.

Over the past couple days, Nancy and her birth mother have been talking on the phone, text messaging and on Facebook. Nancy now has her birth mother, Uncle Larry, and a half-brother on Facebook and is getting to know the family. Things are very positive and everyone is eager to meet her. This is going to be a fun process !

Congratulations ! You've shed some weight and made room in the shop for more toys !

Nice looking ride. Hopefully after you get some saddle time with it you can post your pros/cons compared to the Venture....your thoughts and your wife's.

You could do something like going to mapquest or maps.google and for location use this process to find out if your postal code would work. I went tu usps.com and tried a couple combinations. My postal code is N2E4A6 but 24600 wouldn't work. 24601 DID work.

For tire pressure, I notice a big difference when my front wheel gets down to around 34psi. I run at 37psi so I have a bit of a fudge factor for cooler days. Rear tire I run at 40psi. If your bike seems to want to wander, have you checked front for air pressure? They aren't linked so you might have more/less pressure in one than the other. You can easily zero them out by letting the air out, or use a zero loss pump. I use a pump that has a max 30psi gauge because it is easier to do the low psi that the front shocks require - max 7psi. After tire pressure and shock pressure, I'd check your steering head to make sure it is tight enough. Easy way to test steering head is to put the bike on a lift and hold the handlebars 45 degrees to the left and let go. If it continues on it's own then it is too loose. There is a write up on how to tighten them. I do the 45 degree test rather than the "bounce" test because different people push it over at different speeds. A static 45 degrees is a static 45 degrees. It the bike has been run with loose steering head for some time, you might be into replacing bearings. To test bearings, with the bike on a secure lift, grab the front forks low and try to move them forward and back. If there is play in the forks, you probably need bearings. I'm sure others will comment on better ways to test/confirm bearing wear. I'm not a mechanic but this would be a starting point for me.

Harley "Touring" bikes fit in this price range....Goldwings in the low $30's and up... My list of reasons for getting my RSV were : - shaft drive - liquid cooled - four cylinder - riding comfort - foot position, arm position Didn't matter to me then and doesn't matter to me now whether it is EFI or carburated. If the "new" model had the requirements above, I wouldn't care if it came with a cassette !

Important thing with oil for our bike is : - JASO MA - if you add oil between changes, stick with the same viscosity - avoid any oil that says it has "additives" to make it "fuel efficient" - given the above, buy what you can afford - recommended to change oil filter ever second oil change When I first got my '09 RSV four years ago, based on reading here, one of the recommended oils was Mobil 1 synthetic. Using what had been tried by others here and recommended was important. Couple years ago I switched because of the cost. For oil alone in Canada it was costing me almost $75 per oil change. Further reading was that Rotella T6 was another recommended oil. In Canada, full price of it is $42 a jug. On sale it is usually around $36 or half the price of the Mobil 1. My bike has no issue with Rotella T6 and is probably what I'll run for the life of the bike or as long as I have it. I will however start smuggling jugs of T6 across the border when I go to the States because the last time I saw it in a Walmart in Buffalo it was only $21 regular price. I can't comment on Amsoil because I have no experience with it. I use the OEM oil filter because I don't want to experiment with this "critical" part of the system. Even though T6 is synthetic I stick to the scheduled oil changes but know (or in my head know) that if I'm on a trip and go further with that oil that I'm still safe. Cost of using synthetic and changing on schedule is cheaper than a replacement engine. Only way to really know which is better would be if two bikes were run the same way for the same mileage, both with different oils...and tear them down after 100,000 miles and analyze wear on the cylinders, pistons, rings, seals, check for sludge.... I would bet that you would only find small measurable differences...but for my peace of mind, I'll stick with T6.

I'm running out of room under my seat too ! I spliced into M61'a harness and split each lead into a female butt connector for future growth. Did female connectors so nothing shorts out.

Don - with the number of registered members on the HD forum you aren't doing that bad. Like I posted earlier, with the number of active members here, what you have on the HD forum isn't bad for the length of time it's been up. I've told a few HD riders about the forum when it started up. I'll continue to spread the word and mention it to them again.

Glad you are okay. The bike can be replaced. Hopefully you can strip the parts off before the bike goes to the wrecker.
-
Hope you recover quickly. No matter how much you might think ahead of time that if the bike is falling you'll just let it go because you know you might hurt yourself... when the time comes, it isn't so easy to do.
-
Just a thought... you have an '07... any chance it is still within warranty? 5 years from original sale.
-
Definitely get the harness from M61A1MECH so you don't have to splice in. I had an unpowered 5-to-4 converter and noticed that my under trunk LED brake light would flash when a turn signal was on. I posted recently about resolving the issue by replacing the old 5-to-4 with a Reese Tow Ready Modulite 119148 (119147 is the same thing but without additional power wiring). Cost me $85 CDN but it works ! Noticed that my trunk wing light is brighter now too.

I was hoping it would take off better for Don (Freebird). From the stats : Threads 234 Posts 738 Members 146 Active Members 23 Hard to compare with VR.org since the forum has been running for quite some time. Hopefully the numbers are on track for what Don expected. EDIT - not saying the membership numbers are bad. 146 is actually pretty good. With VR.org although membership numbers are high, but if you look at active members it isn't even close to how many people registered and disappeared over the years.

Just want to check it out. What is the link?
-
Sorry to hear that. Was hoping it would take off like VentureRiders.
-
As a suggestion...if you don't have a member near you, take it to a Yamaha dealer and ask them to take it for a ride and tell you if there is a problem. There are six other members listed in MD. Two have 2nd Gens.

How is the HD forum going? Tried looking for the link but couldn't find it. Hope it is successful.
