Sorry to hear of your loss. Condolences to you and Peg.

Considering this is an "International" and people come from all over.... a gas card from a U.S. company may not work in Canada/Australia/Iceland. VISA/Mastercard works globally. A gift card from one of the sponsors is a nice idea but if you don't spend all of the credit then it is lost. And considering what shipping out of the U.S. costs...it takes a big chunk of the winnings. My vote is for a prepaid VISA or Mastercard. That way everyone is happy and get what they need/want whether it is clothing, bike parts/service, hotels, gas, food, pay bills.... Another option is for more prizes at the International. People could buy tickets for raffle items and put their tickets towards items they want. For example...carb tune, yearly membership, $100 credits from vendors (like Motorcycle Superstore, Diamond R, or Amazon, Aerostitch, Rumbling Pride), gas cards - maybe $100 or $250 cards. When there is one large ticket item, one ticket is drawn, one person wins, and it is all over. With multiple items more people "win". Only issue is that someone has to outlay cash before the rally to get the items/gift cards.

Glad you had a good vacation ! Doing a long trip like that....can I suggest you post your thoughts on how you planned/executed your trip and things you'd do differently. Good to learn from others and I'm sure others here would appreciate it.

Hard to do but step back and consider what you would advise a friend that was in a similar position. Then follow your own advice. Sometimes hard to remember what we were like when we were young but if you were in the same situation as your daughter when you were young, you'd probably think like she does and think you are grown up, an adult... and can manage it. They are a young, inexperienced with life and responsibility....and they may have to learn the hard way. Best you can do is accept the young man into your family. You never know, it could be a relationship that lasts forever. Have them over for dinner, don't tell them what to do, but continue tell them she will always be your daughter, and if they need help in any way, you'll be there for them. Wish you luck and patience.... and btw....congratulations on becoming a grandparent in the near future !

Reason Bob has that big grin on his face isn't because of WHAT happened on the bed....it's because someone told Bob that there was ice cream.

I've seen the replays and I don't believe it was Stewart's fault. The driver that was killed stepped further onto the track, and in front of Stewart.

Funny post....but feel sorry for the owner/rider.

Hope you are safe and out of the way of the fires. Hope the fires get under control soon.

Clutch slipping - upgrade help needed
XV1100SE replied to Mover's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Only 12k miles and you think the clutch is slipping? Granted the bike is 9 years old so wasn't used much over the years but unless the previous owner was really bad on the clutch when shifting, I can't see the clutch going so soon. Just a thought...do you have a tach on the bike? I'd like to know what the rpm was when you were at 120mph. Were you hitting the rev limiter? Rev limiter kicks in at 6200rpm. -
How does it charge? Can you wire it into USB to the bike to keep it charged while riding?

Pianos ? Boat engines?

Congratulations

I agree. I've gone thru several storms, long trips (4 weeks/10,000km) and never had an issue with water or road dust getting into the trailer. You don't need weather stripping unless it makes you feel better.

Does it work on women ?

Two Canadian riders killed in Florida accident
XV1100SE replied to XV1100SE's topic in Watering Hole
Sorry....you are right, the accident happened Feb 18, 2014. I saw the article that showed Sept 3.... but as an "update". Still.... he kills 2 people and disappears. -
I'll double check the screws at the back to make sure they are tight and see about sealing it. Overall a very good tach

Just saw this news. Two Canadians riding in Florida with a group of other riders were killed when a wire spool fell off a truck. The driver of the truck could get "up to 60 days" for unsecured load that resulted in death. http://www.wesh.com/traffic/2-Canadian-motorcyclists-killed-in-accident-involving-spool-of-electrical-wire/24551188#!bP5xuq http://www.wesh.com/news/former-daytona-beach-truck-driver-charged-in-death-of-canadian-tourists/27864564?absolute=true#!bP5u4g

In the dry...tach works great. Needle doesn't bounce at all, easy to read... Rode in the rain the other day and the inside of the glass went foggy. Cleared up sitting in the garage drying itself. I'll see what happens the next time I ride in the rain.

At least the worst is over. Hope you feel better quickly !

RSV Miles per Gallon, Speeds, and Odometer Errors
XV1100SE replied to V7Goose's topic in Watering Hole
I did a calculation before on how much fuel is in the "tank" and available on reserve. Since the main tube and the reserve draw from the same tank (just different heights) it may vary if the there is any difference in tube lengths. I'm not sure if the "reserve" draws from the very bottom of the tank so there may be a bit at the bottom that you can't draw against. Attachment is based on what Yamaha says is the tank and reserve capacity as well as experience from people on here on what the practical amount is that the tank can't be filled up to and what might but below the reserve tube. I've had no bars showing on the fuel gauge and still went several miles. -

Some times you have to watch how mileage was calculated. Mixed audience... some will post U.S. mpg others will post Imperial mpg. Makes a difference. I've had mid 40's mpg (Imperial) but it depends on how you ride the bike. -

Syncing the carbs might help. How have you been with maintenance (eg plugs, air filter)? I filled up this morning....245km / 152 miles and put in 16.9 liters / 4.47 U.S. gallons. Works out to about 34 mpg US. That is combined city/highway with some highway up to 85 mph. -
Might be fuel pump too.

Sounds like a the two of you are having a great trip ! Stay safe !

Chrome Trim on Faring
XV1100SE replied to ENG2242's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sounds like OP has the centre clip broken. The repair I mentioned is for the other clips in between the middle and outer. See http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=516 for repair of the tabs. Not sure if this would apply to the centre clip. If you still have the piece that broke off you can use abs cement to glue it back into position and reinforce it with fiber glass.
