1. That looks like a nice road ! Where are you coming from to get to Red Lodge ? If you are going to be in that area, if you haven't already added Yellowstone Park to your list, you could do the "Grand Loop" and take the North East Entrance Rd from the park. Start in Tower Junction and take the "Bear Tooth" to Red Lodge. Then continue to Glacier NP. Two Years ago we were in Cody, WY and went thru Yellowstone, then took the Bear Tooth to Red Lodge. From there we went North to Billings. Wish I had added Glacier to our route and "Going-to-the-Sun Rd" https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Tower+Junction,+Yellowstone+National+Park,+WY+82190,+United+States/Red+Lodge,+Mt,+USA/48.7549739,-113.8002023/48.7435322,-113.4291276/@46.7642245,-111.6792266,7z/data=!4m31!4m30!1m5!1m1!1s0x534e338a6edd1435:0x1883809ce187e032!2m2!1d-110.415485!2d44.913096!1m20!1m1!1s0x534f2a19f746fcf5:0xb58a35f67520d70b!2m2!1d-109.2468211!2d45.1857782!3m4!1m2!1d-113.0495795!2d46.6167099!3s0x535c8a4287a492c1:0xa3abc72351c132a8!3m4!1m2!1d-113.9061268!2d48.5773683!3s0x53661bf1beff92d1:0x6b702cd424cb66b6!3m4!1m2!1d-113.8050069!2d48.7061249!3s0x5368a8f85b3ee971:0x9b790479755276d!1m0!1m0!3e0
2. The hydrographics look neat. On another thread a link was sent to a you tube video showing it being done. Looks simple but I would think it takes practice
3. Once The Tooch puts them on his bike I'm sure he'll post pics. For more info, this link talks about some different ways to chrome plastic - http://www.thehogring.com/2012/10/16/6-ways-to-transform-plastic-into-chrome/ The do it yourself kit I was looking at originally is called SuperChrome - http://superchrome.ca/. Check out their "hydra chrome" too. http://superchrome.ca/hydra_chrome.php From looking into this, there are several products on the market now. Even HomeDepot sells a product called "Killer Chrome" that you can do yourself. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Alsa-Refinish-Killer-Chrome-Kit-KC-KCH-Kit/204171696
4. After I had some chrome work done on my bike (battery side covers and the plastic piece in front of the battery box), David (The Tooch) asked me about getting his air intakes done. These are the black plastic air intakes that come with the 2nd Gen. They turned out great ! As a first run I was able to get them done for $200 (cash, no tax). After doing them, because prep took longer than expected, any future ones would be $250 (incl tax). The company I had my plastic chromed and David's air intakes done is EZ Chrome in Otterville. http://www.ezchromesolutions.com/
5. Wow ! Congratulations !
6. Once you put some miles on it I'd like to hear your opinions (pro and con) about the new ride. Comparing it to the Venture isn't a bad thing. Also... what type of experience you get from the dealer(s) and comparing it to your dealings with Yamaha would be interesting. Giving your opinion wouldn't be any different from people evaluating other bikes. Nice looking ride by the way.
7. Greatest impact area is the chin area. A good reason to have a full face helmet.
8. I have a Clearview on my 2nd Gen - stock height with vent, extra wide. I got mine used from a member here. 1 - yes, I'm happy with it. Took a while to get used to the width - felt like I was sitting in the car for a while I have the light gray tint and am happy with it 2 - sides are curved a bit and help deflect the wind. Don't remember if the upper part of the windscreen is curved 3 - I wasn't sure if I'd like a vent before I tried it and I'd say it is worth it. When it is really hot out you can direct the vent to get more air 4 - it is better than stock and that is all I have to compare it to. Some people have gone from Clearview to the F4 (2nd Gen) but overall I am happy with the Clearview 5 - if I had to change (if my Clearview got damaged) I'd try the F4 but not because of issues with the Clearview 6 - since I got mine used from another member, I'm not sure where you can get them in Canada. Think Clearview sells direct
9. Happy birthday !!!!
10. I have to agree. Whether you ride or not or even if you rode a Harley, you don't have to leave the site. Continue to stay in touch with the group, attend get togethers, or even to let others know how you are doing.
11. Twice a year I use S100 on my bike. I'll wash it every couple weeks (or every month - depends on the weather and how dirty it gets). I find that using S100 at the beginning of the season and then mid-season makes it easier to keep the bike clean. When water spots start appearing on the engine/chrome, I know it is time to treat it with S100. After that, you don't get water spots on the bike and it is easier to keep the bike clean. In other words... highly recommended. Process is to wash and dry the bike then spray on S100. Hose it off until you no longer see "soap" bubbles then dry it off.
12. Thanks to everyone for the congratulations !
13. I used info I found on the Internet plus experience on a four week trip to put together the attached list. It's an Excel document so you can add/change/remove things. Bike Packing.xls
14. Got the license today and booked the chapel. Made arrangements with the caterer, menu selected. Anyone from VR.org that is able to attend, this is an open invitation for anyone that can attend. Please post on the calendar if you can attend.
15. Hope our members are safe after the tornados that hit the mid-west yesterday.
16. What I was referring to was that if you sanded the windscreen with the film still on it, I don't believe Plastex would take out the fine scratches. I've used Plastex before but only using a cloth to put it on and buff it out.
17. Word of caution on this....I remember a post before that said there is a clear film on the windscreen and buffing the way you did can damage the film, making your windscreen toast.
18. I went with the K&N filters when I needed air filters but the dealer didn't have the Yamaha filters for my RSV. Cost wasn't a whole lot more and is a one time purchase rather than based on mileage. I did no adjustment to the carbs other than a carb tune. No back fires, no lag in acceleration. Worth the price? Yes, they are more expensive than the OEM filters, but you clean and reuse them, not replace them so the purchase price is a one time thing. So, yes, they are a good investment.
19. Advantage of the iSimple (from Yamaha) is that you can control or skip tracks using the bike's controller. If you use a bluetooth adapter or thru the AUX input you have to reach to the the iPod/iPhone, this will take your eyes off the road.
20. After living together for ten years Nancy and I are getting married ! I'll post a calendar entry - our friends from VentureRider are welcome to attend a gathering at our house on Saturday July 4th after 3pm. Dinner, snacks, music, motorcycle friendly parking, cash bar or byob. Gifts not required. Your attendance is all we need ! Please RSVP in the calendar if you are able to attend. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=447&day=2015-7-4
21. For a good dealer....Performance Cycle in Kitchener. You can trust them. I know this from previous experience with them.
22. Sorry to say, I looked and can't find a U.S. flag. Was sure I received one with one of my masts...but maybe my memory isn't what it used to be.
23. Are you coming to MarCarl's at the end of May as well ?
24. The iSimple attaches to the inside wall of the left saddle bag and is held on really firmly. The part numbers must be on the back side so without tearing it off...I can't see the numbers. From what I can see there are 9 wires going to the flat connector. 4 dip switches. Check out this link on the Clarion CBus audio input - http://forums.ilounge.com/accessories-iphone-ipad-ipod/44404-clarion-cbus-audio-input-installation.html I have the installation instructions for the iSimple and that might help you. I can scan them at work on Monday and post here.
25. Pretty sure I have one that came with a mast. You could have it for free but shipping from Canada would cost more than if you were to order it directly from Rumbling Pride.
