  1. I have the Rivco modulator and after a year it is still working fine. Possible you have a ground somewhere in the lights?
  2. This is another topic that should be banned just as politics, religion, and gun control are.
  3. Without looking closely at the actual piece....almost double the price for the left one. The part numbers are different for the two so there must be something "special" about the left one. If you need the left then order #11 . Obviously right one is #12 . Should ask...why do you need one? I believe they are rubber so if you replace one side I'd be inclined to replace both.
  4. Either place is fine with me. Just say when and where. If at your place...you'll need : - soldering iron and solder - wire stripper - wire cutter - electrical tape - allen keys (to get into the fairing and under the seat) - wire - black and red...14 guage for power I would guess - coffee - more coffee - possibly ice cream if Carl comes over
  5. Sent you an email. I changed my personal email address a couple months ago. It is up to date on vr.org....just not in your little black book.
  6. Glad to hear that some progress is being made. They may not know the cause but at least they have a direction to go looking in.
  7. So if Wednesday is "Bike Night" and Reiny wants to install an alarm on his BIKE.... doesn't that count as something to do on "Bike Night" ? Reiny - How involved is the alarm installation? If we left the Tim's at Homer Watson/401 at 6:30pm we wouldn't be to Carl's until 7pm. Need time to take things apart, run wires, tie into power, figure out where to put the alarm unit, figure out how to put things back together...decide if spare parts are important or not..... If Carl is saying that Wednesday is "RIDE Night" and not "work on bikes night" then maybe all of us could make arrangements to meet somewhere (St. George Tim Horton's?), have a coffee, review the instructions for the alarm, and make a plan on how-to and when-to do the install. Reiny and I (with our better halves) could meet at Tim Horton's on Home Watson/401 and work our way to St. George. Carl and whoever chooses to ride with him could meet us at 8pm in St. George. That work?
  8. I have vr.org set up to launch as a tab when I start my browser so I check it daily, multiple times a day (even at work). I try to offer suggestions and tips based on what I've read in the past and my experiences with the second gen. I try to "pay forward" all the help and guidance I've received from the great members here. With the nice weather I've been busy with yard work and riding. I have noticed that some of the "old timers" don't seem to be as regular any more. Might be their age... they still have Ventures...but ones that used to post a lot don't seem to as much as they used to. Might be a "changing of the guard". And yes, some people have sold their Ventures and the majority have stayed as members. Keep in mind that those that sell their Ventures sell them to people that buy them. Whole new "flock" of potential members. Any time I talk to a Venture owner the first thing I ask them is are they a member here. If they say they aren't, I tell them they should and tell them why - too many "why's" to list here. Whether or not Yamaha introduces another version of the Venture (they keep improving with each generation)...there are a lot of Ventures out there. As long as membership stays level or increases and you make some profit, there is no reason to change anything. As has been mentioned, membership has it's privileges, and friends become "family".
  9. Ian (DarkHorse)...what oil are you using? I started using the Mobil 1 oil initially but then oil changes started costing $70+. I've been using the Rotella T6 for the past couple years on my '09 and I don't have the whine. Try the T6 for the next couple oil changes and see if that helps or eliminates the whine. By any chance....are you still running the original tires? There were posts that a misalignment of the drive shaft/gears might cause the noise. Some people have added shims. Could be a slight misalignment if you had work done on your rear end.
  10. Pretty sure between the two of us we could figure it out. The more the merrier so if anyone else wants to join they are more than welcome I'm sure !
  11. Start things off : Necessary things for a touring bike 1) 4 cyl liquid cooled engine 2) shaft drive What I'd like to see : 1) ABS 2) EFI 3) continue 2nd Gen "retro" dash - I get lots of comments from people on the look of the dash/speedo 4) Cdn bikes should have speedometer display like the U.S. bikes - both KM and miles 5) continue including cb 6) bluetooth compatible integrated audio system 7) better sound system than 2nd Gen 8) get rid of cassette deck 9) lower centre of gravity 10) improved rear shock 11) better fuel pump 12) bigger trunk 13) keep top loading saddle bags
  12. Puc....you are a man of few words. For those interested : - "Opposed-piston engines" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opposed-piston_engine - "Straight-twin (parallel) engines" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight-twin_engine" Both are interesting reads.
  13. I have a Hopnel tank bib. Similar to the one in the picture (not shown on a Venture) - http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/hopnel-carbon-fiber-tuxedo-ties-yamaha-royal-star-venture/part/BBP-Y60-101CF
  14. I'm the second owner of my '09 RSV. Purchased it in July 2010 from the original owner three months after he bought it (he bought it in April of 2010). Only had 2,500 km on it. I think he found the RSV too top heavy since there is a scrape on the bottom side of one of the engine guards. Definitely a different centre of gravity from the 1100 VStar he also rode. I've had two warranty replacements done in the (almost) five years I've owned the bike - one rear speaker and the fuel pump. Last summer my rear shock started "groaning" but I figured since it wasn't leaking nothing would be done under warranty. A couple weeks ago there was a post that said Yamaha USA was replacing shocks which "groaned" since it was an indication that the shock was about to fail. So, yesterday I called my dealer and told them that my shock was groaning and that the bike was near the end of the warranty. They looked it up...and said the warranty ends on April 30th. Wow...3 days left on the warranty! I took the bike in today at lunch, compressed the rear once, shock groaned, and the Service Manager said..."yes, it needs to be replaced". We went into the shop and he called Yamaha who said it would be covered under warranty. 2-3 weeks for a shock to come from Japan. Had I not read the post that groaning shocks were being covered, I wouldn't have called the dealer and probably in the near future would have been out of pocket about $550 for a new OEM shock...but I probably would have gone for the more expensive Works or Hagon. Good thing membership fees aren't what we save per year from what we learn on ventureriders.org !
  15. Looking good !
  16. For the front end "feel"... I find if my front tire gets down to 34psi it feels like it isn't tracking right in a curve. I normally run 36-38psi in the front and 40psi on the rear. Get the lift adapter from Carbon One and with the bike raised, turn the steering 45 degrees to one side and let go. If it moves at all, your steering head is too loose. Turn it the other way and test again. There is a write up on a "cheater" way of tighting the steering head. I do the steering test every time I get the bike up on the lift. If your steering head is loose the bike will feel like it is wandering thru corners/curves.
  17. Wouldn't miss it ! I booked the Friday off. Several of us will ride down Friday morning to be there for the dinner. We'll be camping at Don's.
  18. Been there, done that before. :-)
  19. $500 for the pair or each? Great deal !
  20. Wish you all the best and a speedy recovery.
  21. Hope they figure out what ails you soon and that they can put you on the road to mending.
  22. Congratulations !
  23. David picked up the chrome intakes today. I had mine done and he gave me his today in exchange. I've posted what the chromed intakes look like but here are the old and "new" side by side. I'm sure David will post pics once he gets them on his bike. They look great !
