  1. Some of us are coming from Ontario and Jayceesfolly suggested stopping for "breakfast Sunday morning at Bob Evans restaurant at exit 66 (Quaker Blvd) of I-70 on the west side of Indy. It is about 85 miles from the Super 8 in Gas City. We could meet there for breakfast about 10:30 AM or so. It is 245 miles (about 4 hours) from Bob Evans to the campground. Also remember we gain an hour, for the time zone change, when we get west of Indy at the state line, so travel time is actually about three hours to the campground." Nancy and I are staying at the Super 8 in Gas City Saturday night, Saddlebum (Ben) has listed he is booked for Marion (same area, not sure if he booked same hotel). Anyone coming along I70... meet up at the Bob Evans ?
  2. In Marion or "Gas City" ?
  3. From Jayceesfolly : "I will be going thru Indianapolis on Sunday morning about 10 or 11:00 AM. I am staying at my daughters' home in Huber Heights, OH (Dayton, OH area on I-70) on Saturday night, about 1 1/2 hours east of Indianapolis. We should all be going thru Indy about the same time. Can we meet somewhere west of Indy and ride together? There is a Bob Evans restaurant at exit 66 (Quaker Blvd) of I-70 on the west side of Indy. It is about 85 miles from the Super 8 in Gas City and about 130 miles from my daughters' home. We could meet there for breakfast about 10:30 AM or so. It is 245 miles (about 4 hours) from Bob Evans to the campground. Also remember we gain an hour, for the time zone change, when we get west of Indy at the state line, so travel time is actually about three hours to the campground." Think that is a great idea !
  4. Great !
  5. Can I ask that you add one more thing...rear shock air pressure on the bike. Rider weight with and without passenger considerations. On our trip to MD towing a "Time Out" trailer (base weight 325lbs according to mfr plus about 100 lbs for what we took)... I had the rear shock at 30 psi and the bike didn't feel good. The people I was with bumped it up to 50 psi and that made the difference.
  6. Hey Phil...if you were to go, what day would you be leaving? You can see from the route I posted where we'll be staying. On the way down you could share a room with Ben and David. Easier than camping and splitting the cost of a room is probably the same cost as camping. I'd offer to let you share the room with Nancy and I but think this will be our honeymoon. :-D
  7. I've had rain suits in the past (wear over your gear) but I find that the TourMaster jacket with rain liner and if needed rain pants work the best. Have waterproof SWAT boots and I stay dry
  8. To get an accurate route to post I put a stop in for Laingsburg MI so the attached link properly shows our route. http://mapq.st/1JWLa3y Spoke with Saddlebum and we'll meet up at the Super 8 (5172 Kaybee Drive, Gas City, IN, 46933) for a Saturday overnight stay. From there we'll go to the International camp ground. I had emailed the camp ground in Pendleton and apparently there is a concert next door to them that evening..so ruling that out. Mapquest still shows that the last leg of our trip to be 5h 15m drive time.
  9. Talk to Carbon One (Larry). Not sure if he is still making them but what he provides is great quality. The rests tip up rather than the arms swinging out.
  10. Dress warm ! Last August when we rode it we were above the snow line. I told Nancy at the bottom that she wouldn't need her thermals but was 26F when we were at the top and cold drizzle.
  11. You could also ask a paint shop how they would take the pin striping off. Explain the purpose and you might get pleasantly surprised if they offer to do it for you.
  12. I had an open invitation to all VR members. Even you could have come Puc ! Thank you for the congrats ! LOL 5 days in and STILL happily married !
  13. Even the Yamaha dealers don't see very many Ventures since they run forever and a lot of us do our own maintenance. I'm lucky that the shop I go to occasionally has a senior mechanic that knows the bike. He may be the only one since any time I've taken it in he's been the only mechanic that has worked on the bike.
  14. one other thing....if you run power from the battery to a fuse block in the fairing you'll need to take the gas tank off - easier with a low fuel level. There are wire "trays" under the tank you can run the power wire thru to keep everything nice and clean.
  15. ...just wish there was a way to wirelessly tie into the bike for cb....
  16. I set my gps mount so it always has power. I take the gps off any time I park it. Figure that way if for some reason the battery on the gps is empty I can be parked with the bike off and listen to music or find my way home. I have a 6 gang fuse block under my seat and one in the fairing. I'm not using all the fuse block connections but I don't like having all the clutter of wires under the seat - been there, done that, bought an extra fuse block. As mentioned, to turn off power to the gps mount, a simple relay connected to keyed power will work.
  17. Glad to hear the initial word is good news. Still not out of the woods yet but with all the positive thoughts your way from your VR family, you'll be a new man in no time !
  18. Glad they stepped up for you. Would like to see pics of the finished product. Did you look into the stripe stripper I mentioned? I'd be concerned about using it on ABS but it might give you some ideas.

    CRA Scam

Just to be safe... transfer all you assets (you can keep the liabilities) to my Nigerian banker. :-)
  20. Sorry to hear about the "C" but as mentioned, prostate cancer in men is very common and can be treated. Know that you are in our thoughts and hope any news from the Doc's is good news.
  21. Still have about 2 1/2 gallons of apple pie and a couple cases of beer. What can I say...the people that attended weren't big drinkers ! As for another party....don't think Nancy will let me get married again...but we do have a couple coupons (they must have been stuck together when you put them in the envelope....or Marca did it) for some "Choice Meats". Maybe it is just the Brantford Spyder riders that don't wave....or they like the colour of my bike. The glare of the sun off all the chrome maybe confuses them and they can't tell it only has 2 wheels???? Glad you enjoyed the party !
  22. Had Nancy send me a pic from the falls.
  23. Try a strip stripper wheel. I took stripes off my Mustang. Doesn't work very well on plastic though because it will melt the plastic or take off the paint. This is an example. http://www.steckmfg.com/35400_SuperStripeStripper.html
  24. Pictures from last night's bbq The three generations of females...from left side - Nancy, Joyce (adopted mother), Amber (Nancy's daughter), Norine (birth mother) Group picture - from left side - Norine, Nancy, Joyce, Ed (adopted father), James (Nancy's son). Back row from left - me, Amber
  25. Taking it to the same shop ? Are they a Yamaha dealer?
