Sorry to hear about your accident but thankful that you and your fiance have/are recovering. Definitely understand you wanting to take some time off from riding. Hope you have it in you to stay on vr.org even if you choose not to ride again. Please pass along our best wishes to your fiance.

Sounds like you've learned to read maps and the gps from Carl. Wrong turns and u-turns!! Great to hear your updates. Ride safe and enjoy your trip !

RussLightwing did a write up on the oil line he ran - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?119593-YES-WHINE-is-GONE-I-Finally-did-IT-PUT-OIL-line-to-THE-DRIVE-gear-on-Clutch-housing&highlight=whine+line which fixed his issue. Other option is to get an "i" basket but that would run you in the $300 or so. From my reading, I believe Yamaha started using the "i" basket for the 2009 model year. People have tried various oils....I use Rotella T6. Others have reported whine lessened with Rotella, some with Amsoil, some with Yamalube.

I didn't realize there was oil in that area until I spoke with Wayne (Wizard765) so I didn't think it was a "critical" gasket. I'll definitely replace the gasket. I'd rather do something once than have to repeat it. I based the right part on what Ricky's website said was the correct model so I ordered it already from Canada's Motorcycle even though the 2009 wasn't listed. I didn't try earlier years to see if they would show compatibility - and I do know that from 1999 to 2013 there were only slight changes. I do change my fuel filter regularily and stay on top of fluids. I won't get the stator until end of next week (3-4 days for them to get it from their supplier, 1-3 days for delivery) and I WILL do all the testing suggested above as well as in the thread on "battery not charging". Really appreciate all the ideas and the phone call from Ben (Saddlebum) - great support group ! My thinking on ordering the stator before doing the tests is that eventually I'm going to have to replace it anyway (from the number of times they "wear out"), and seems that from the test results so far and previous threads on "battery not charging" it is typically the stator.

When replacing the stator I see there is a gasket. IF it is the stator....do I need to replace or reuse the stator cover gasket? I checked Ricks Motorsport and they show that for the 2009 Venture it is part number 21-412H. $159 USD plus$60 shipping = $220. With the exchange rate I'd be looking at almost $300 CDN. I can get it from "Canada's Motorcycle" for $202 CDN but when I go thru their fitment...it says it doesn't fit the Venture...same part number - https://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/ricks-motorsport-electrics-stator-hot-shot-21-412h.html . I can pay $2 and have it in 1-3 days.

Update on my issue.... On the first day of the Ontario rally the bike experienced the same issues. Would run fine but when I shut down and tried to start the bike there wasn't enough power in the battery to start it. After a number of push starts and discussions with other members at the rally, the new Deka battery was suspected. Voltage was read and was low. Boosted the bike and it kept running when the battery was disconnected. General thought was that the Deka had the same issue as the Interstate...so I replaced the Deka battery with another AGM. For two days the bike ran fine but as we were about to leave for home, the bike wouldn't start. The bike started first thing Sunday morning and we rode for about 20 minutes to go for breakfast on the final day of the rally. Bike started fine an hour later and we rode back to the rally site. Twenty minutes later, went to start the bike and it would turn over a couple times then stop....no power. I normally ride with high beam on and passing lights. We boosted the bike from a car and it fired right up. From that point on I rode with only the high beam on and the passing lights off. Rode for some distance and shut the bike off to get fuel. Went to start the bike...and it started fine. For the rest of the trip home, the bike would start with no problems. MarCarl is thinking that when the bike is "hot" there isn't enough power to charge the battery and the battery is in a discharge state. This afternoon I ran some tests. I ran the bike until it was hot (on side stand just idling) and then took measurements with passing lights and high beam off : : @idle (1000rpm), voltage measured at the battery posts was counting down .01 every few seconds. At start of the test it read 12.65v and slowly decreased as low as 12.45v @2500rpm output would range between 12.88 and 13.26v. The output voltage reading would not stabilize and bounced up and down in that range Turned bike off and measured voltage - 12.68v and holding. With key turned on but not started voltage dropped by .01 every few seconds. I turned the key off and then took measurements with the bike turned off : @10 minutes 12.56v @ 1 hour measured 12.51v By this point the bike had cooled off so I started the bike and got the following readings : Idle- 12.93 1500rpm - 13.9v 2000rpm - 13.91v 2500rpm - 13.91v So...my question after what I feel confirms what Carl suggested...when the bike is hot voltage from the bike to the battery drops to a point where the battery is discharging. Based on the readings, what would the issue be? Stator or rectifier ? And where should I order it from ?

I have the Custom Dynamics run/turn/brake lights and I'm told that during bright sunlight the turn signals aren't very visible. I'm looking for the Harley license frame (68230-97B) and came across a listing but not sure if it is the right one. The ad reads : OEM No: 68230-97B Chrome lamp bar with 4 red bullet lamps, bulb type and license plate backing. Mounts to stock plate bracket. Includes the mount bracket for FLT models without tour pack. The plate included replaces the stock license plate mount plate. For 7-1/4" x 8" plate. Order lamp bar mount plate separately for mounting on pre 2009 models with tour pack. Order license plate holder insert separately. Fits: FLT 1997-2008 UOM: 1 - SET Color: Red Style: Bullet 2011 Catalog pages: 1095, 1101 Suggested to use with #31-1756 lamp bar mount bracket Suggested to use with #42-1533 license plate holder insert For the 2nd Gen Venture...would this fit and do I also need the mount bracket?

Thank you to everyone that attended and a special thank you to Carl (the "birthday boy" during the rally), Marca, and Nancy. With the surveys we received back, everyone had a great weekend and we will be incorporating your suggestions for next year. Couple pics.... We brought our dog Meeko who by the end of the rally wasn't as white as when we first arrived. Next year he'll have his own name tag. The "gang"... The "birthday boy" and proud ride captain

Good for you to read the history of the Venture/Tour Deluxe but in a nutshell... (link to history - check tabs for different years - http://www.venturerider.org/history/index.php ) 1st Gen began production in '83. Think the last 1st Gen rolled off the line in '93. It had a frame mounted fairing (well...you know this since you have one). 2nd Gen began production in '99. Between '92 and '99 there was a Royal Star produced which looks a lot like a 2nd Gen and the Tour Deluxe had a run. Production of the 2nd Gen ended in 2013. 2nd Gen has a fork mounted fairing. 3rd Gen .... since probably 2010 (or earlier) there have been rumours that Yamaha has been developing the next model touring bike that will be released "next year" (in 2010 rumour was that it would be released in 2011; in 2011 it was rumoured to be out in 2012; etc; etc). First model years of the 1st Gen and 2nd Gens had some common issues that were resolved by the 2nd or 3rd year of production. Hopefully you've read the thread for the 1st Gen, it will tell you areas to focus on (eg: 2nd gear issue and in your case possible frame issue). Here is a link to the 1st Gen (read only) tech article for known problems. In the "read only" section there are lots of tips and guides to doing your own maintenance - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?1066-A-list-of-known-problems-on-the-First-Gen-Venture. You should also go thru Skydoc's thread on things to check - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?65738-Things-I-would-Check! . The read only section with separate sections for different areas is http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?13-First-Gen-Tech-Library-READ-ONLY! As a suggestion, if you find you need to replace parts post what you are looking for here before buying it somewhere else. Some members have spare parts. And remember, plastic can be repaired or rebuilt in some cases.

...or the Harley guys playing a joke on you.

Does she ride with an open face helmet? Full face and had the visor up? I agree with the others....maybe the wind was catching her helmet. Other possibility...how does she hold her arms on the bike? She resting them on the wrap around back rest? Cold also have been from cool/cold wind hitting her neck/shoulders.

Sorry to hear you can't make it !

We get a discount at a place that does flags and poles. The saddlebag rails and trunk rack rails are different diameters. See - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?79420-Discount-on-Flag-Mounts&highlight=flag+discount

BTW....the pool is not open due to repairs that need to be done.

BTW....the O-Rings you can use on the foot pegs are 1"

We were all thinking the same thing when you said you were done.
-
Any physical changes to the bike, whether it is "on the shelf" in your garage, basement, or attic still count as changes....and NOT done !
-
I thought you were done with the additions and "final" pictures? :-p It's like saying you are going to quit smoking....easier said than done. I don't think the additions/changes ever end !

Why in the world would anyone cut off the antennas ? Guess they don't know they are worth about $150 EACH !

How could a HD rider know it was the windscreen vibrating when the entire HD shakes and rattles?

Painted wind deflectors
XV1100SE replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hmmmmmm......what would they look like if you used some "chrome" paint on them? I painted the back of mine with black paint a few years ago on my '09. With the black lower portion of my fairing it looks better than the clear plastic. -
I'm betting there'll be more pictures !
