  1. I've spoken with two dealers who say they will not be bringing the new Venture in unless a customer pre-orders it. Both mentioned the price tag. If the dealers don't have it in the show room to sell....people can't see it, can't test ride it....they won't buy it.
  2. I've uploaded the pictures and GoPro videos I took to a Google Drive. Feel free to copy any that you like ! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B8XLxy71qjC4LWxpNmpKczNfUkE?usp=sharing
  3. Check out http://www.toptenreviews.com/home/auto/best-marine-speakers/ but remember the size of the speakers. https://www1.crutchfield.com/shopsearch/4%22_marine_speaker.html Further about 4" speakers and results - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?108447-Question-about-speakers&highlight=speaker+size
  4. Clearview as well. 4" wider than stock, OEM height, with vent. Perfect. I'll add though...using the original screws they will loosen with vibration. The Clearview is a little thicker than the stock shield. Simple solution, a millimeter or two longer screw. Do NOT use Loctite
  5. See this - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?123932-Audio-Upgrades&highlight=polk+speaker Polk (waterproof) speakers have been used but you'll find that it isn't much of an improvement. Some have put a backing behind the speaker but the limitation is the speaker size and power output of the amplifier. You can do a search for Polk speaker and you'll find several threads on this. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/search.php?searchid=5337411 I use the headset in my helmet always (J&M)
  6. As Paul said...VentureRider's are a family group. It was great to have this annual "reunion" and look forward to having more of the family join us next year. From Nancy and I....a big thank you to those that attended this year ! We are already discussing and planning for next year and making it even better based on the comment sheets and keeping with a working format. For those that haven't joined us yet, just look at the smiling faces and the positive comments already posted. Become a part of it next year and enjoy Ontario, fellow riders, and yes....even have a chance to talk to Carl in person ! (Woohoo !!). We are tentatively looking at July 19-22, 2018 so mark it on your calendars (in pencil). I will be sharing the pictures and videos I took and will post the link here once I have a chance to upload them. I will set up a section so that anyone else that took pictures can share them to the group as well.
  7. Yes, first start even on a warm day use the choke. If it sits for a couple hours after riding, use the choke again. As for chugging at 60...are you in 5th at that point? If so, you are lugging the motor. Shift later. Even in lower gears these bikes to rev. Red line is 6250 rpm and you can really wind her out. It isn't a vtwin. At 60 I'd still be in 4th. A little faster you can shift to 5th (overdrive). You'll get better gas mileage too. Sweet spot for horsepower and torque is around 3700rpm.
  8. Going to chime in on this one...the dielectric grease... from previous reading does NOT go on the metal connector. It's intention is to go on the rubber "boot" of the connection to prevent moisture getting to the contacts and corroding them.
  9. Certainly amps things up around here. Shocking isn't it?
  10. Thing is, has the economy improved since 2008 ? That was the peak until the bottom fell out. Since then, a number of people have lost full-time manufacturing jobs, and those that are working there has been little to no raises. Although the Government (Canada and U.S.) say that unemployment isn't that bad, they don't count the number of people that went from good paying full-time jobs to part-time minimum wage jobs, or those that have given up on finding a job. With manufacturers moving production to places with lower wages and benefits, the time of jobs for life working full-time for good wage is gone in Canada and the U.S. Motorcycles are like sports cars - toys. Toys go first when there is a budget for food and shelter and it is tight to make ends meet.
  11. Someone more knowledgable on engines can comment but on the Venture (1st and 2nd Gen) there is the normal ignition point at or near the compression point or top dead center on the ignition stroke but also an ignition at the end of the exhaust stroke (wasted spark). If there is unspent fuel in the cylinder during the exhaust stroke, wouldn't this burn it off ? So...debate on whether high octane is better or not continues.
  12. If you are interested in the BaggerShield I have one to part with. Let me know if you are interested and I'll send you details and we can work out price and shipping. I'm in Ontario. EDIT - actually, I have family driving to Leduc July 30th so it could be picked up with no shipping charge ! $100 CDN and it is yours.
  13. I spoke with Ray this morning...he has you as T5 and T6
  14. Anyone planning on going? I'm off work tomorrow...tempting even if just to go look at one in person before they hit the showrooms.
  15. Glad you caught it in time ! Hope it is under control now and she recovers quickly.
  16. Key thing is, the sniper and his spotter made the shot an took out an ISIS militant and saved several lives. Shot calculated, shot taken, scratch one ISIS soldier. I lean towards skill but even if you think it was luck....thank you to our military for their services.
  17. You should have pointed out that yours is a 4 cylinder liquid cooled bike.
  18. We would like to get a feel for where we should plan next year's rally. Ideally we pick a location where the most members would be interested in seeing, and likely to attend. This is open to any and all members to offer their input so put in your vote and hope to see you at next year's annual Ontario rally. Still time to attend this year's rally - July 20-23rd in Minden Ontario http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...t=2017+ontario http://www.venturerider.org/forum/ca...=2017-7-20&c=1
  19. Also....Carl, Marca, and I went up on the weekend and decided on our rides for the Friday and Saturday. Not to disappoint, think we picked some good ones. We will also offer a couple early evening rides to a couple look-outs and of course ice cream on the Thursday/Friday/Saturday evenings. Ray (motel owner) still has a cabin available that sleeps 8 so if anyone is looking for splitting cost that is still available. Nancy and I have an RV reserved and there will be two single beds available for anyone that needs a bed (low rental fee).
  20. Have to agree with you that it is a bit of both... If the sniper was firing into a crowd and happened to hit someone....doesn't necessarily show skill if from a short distance. Consider 2.2 miles though...have to get the right elevation, consider wind direction to still hit the crowd let alone a single target....more skill required. Now...same distance, target is a 6' tall person of average weight. Kill zone is less than half of that on the body....so maybe a 2' kill zone on the body (head, upper torso, excluding shoulders, arms)...To make the shot at a stationary target consistently would be skill. To have the bullet travel 11 seconds and anticipating where the target would be when the bullet gets there...intentionally....skill. Another way to look at it....you are bowling and faced with a 7/10 split (back row corners) and you make it one out of 100 times - luck. Now say the alley is 2 miles long and you make it with your first shot. Skill. Maybe make it on your second shot and not the first....still skill.
