  4. Should have introduced the two "friends" to each other. Nice looking bike !
  5. I'm happy with my '09 and have lots of "extras" on it. Sure it will outlast my riding but....with the extra bells and whistles on the '18, if it had a liquid cooled V4 with shaft drive I probably would have gone for it. I'm a "maybe"
  6. Know where you are coming from. My father is 95, still lives in his own house, still does gardening, grass cutting, clearing snow in winter. I'm lucky though because he is still physically and mentally in good shape. He says he forgets some things but you can ask him about anything and he remembers. He went to the optometrist recently and still has 20/20 vision. He's mentioned going to an old folks home but he can still look after himself and quite often elderly people go to a home and then get sick. We kid with him that if he does go into a home the 70 year old women will be chasing him ! Have you considered home care? Someone that spends the day with him while you are at work, or could come in, get him started in the morning and check on him thru the day? Would be cheaper than a home and if he is still mentally with it, he can stay with you as long as possible.

  10. I'm confused. He has an '08 RSV according to his header. Does he have the new '18 Venture?
  11. What tires did they quote you on? I'm in Canada (usually more expensive than the U.S.) and I'm pretty sure my set of E3's (front and back) in total was around or less than $500 installed - this included removing the wheels, mounting and balancing the tires.
  12. Dan - I hope the predicament your brother is in gets resolved quickly. To a certain extent, maybe it is good he is being held...may be better for his protection. Sorry about the stress the scum are putting you thru and that the Sheriff doesn't seem to be concerned that the situation could escalate again.
  13. 2nd Gen ? When was the last time you checked to make sure your steering head wasn't loose. The wobble "hands free" is an indicator of a loose steering head. See the write-up in the 2nd Gen read only section. Some say to use the "bounce test" but I find it more reliable to lift the bike, turn the wheel 45 degrees to the left (right the cables bind and don't dive an accurate test). Hold the wheel still at 45 degrees and then just let go. If the wheel falls to the left, your steering head is too loose. When you let go it should hold it's position. I check mine every 10-12,000 km and typically have to adjust it.
  14. Follow the jobs... Consider the number of jobs and industries that moved to third world countries. If you look at the markets for China, South Korea...sales in bikes and cars are still growing. Why? Manufacturing companies moved jobs to those regions because of the cheap labour. The people have steady jobs, and can afford the "toys". If you consider the jobs in North America, look how many factories have shut down. People lost good paying steady jobs and those that could find work are generally working part-time jobs for minimum wage. This isn't a political comment but the way they do statistics for unemployment, if someone is working (doesn't matter if they dropped their hours of work or salary by half or more), as long as they have "a job", they are employed. Stats also don't count people that gave up looking for work. And even minimum wage jobs are under threat because companies would rather install a kiosk to take orders rather than pay someone the rising minimum wage. (think McDonalds). Follow the jobs, and the money. Less high paying jobs here, people can't afford the luxury items or toys. People here generally have a rising debt ratio too. People overseas have gained steady, well paying (better wages than they were used to) jobs and have money in their pockets to spend on things that weren't possible before.
  15. I work in IT and have written user guides so I'm used to doing step by step instructions. Glad you found it helpful and detailed.
  16. '09 RSV with Clearview OEM height windscreen. I ride with a full face helmet. In rain I'll admit I slow down to what I feel is a safe speed depending on on the conditions. I normally ride with the helmet shield all the way up. In rain I lower it so that it is still above the top of my glasses (prescription glasses). I've tried lowering it but looking thru wet glasses, raindrops on the face shield, and then thru a rain covered windscreen....not good. Keeping it above glass level is one less layer of raindrops to look thru. With the visor partially down it keeps the rain off my face/glasses.
  17. Eileen will get you out riding more now !
  18. It's another option on the new Venture...4 cyl liquid cooled motor with shaft drive. Yeah....right.
  19. Hope the surgery went well. Time to start healing !!!
  20. Have you looked in the 1st Gen read only section? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?13-First-Gen-Tech-Library-READ-ONLY! In the "Guides, Parts Diagrams" section there are service guides, parts diagrams. Also sections for body, plastics....etc.
  21. I'm picturing her driving and you on the passenger seat.... It's okay Don....you can't always be the driver and it is okay to be a passenger.
  22. Second the idea of a M&G if you get to the Kitchener/Brantford/Hamilton area.
  23. Don - maybe you and Eileen should make a trip to Canada ! As for feeding Carl...you know he'd have to bring his entourage of fellow Canadians. Could turn into a mini-maintenance day working on your "new" Spyder. I know Carl had his eyes on the new model Spyder when we went to Pioneer a month or so ago...you might be able to talk him into selling you his (a finely tuned machine) so he can "upgrade".
