  1. Good to see you are recovered enough to ride.
  2. Long distance is usually vacation so stopping and site seeing is important. I've done 900km / 560 miles in a day while on vacation (last day coming home), but some days only did a couple hundred km depending on what we wanted to see and do.
  3. At Maintenance Day a few years ago I had some pinstriping done (paint) on my trunk. I would like to remove it now. Suggestions on how to do it ? Because it is paint on ABS... what to use without damaging the original paint underneath? I have a stripe stripper but unless you are really careful it will chip off the original paint or get too hot. Seen recommendations to use oven cleaner, lacquer thinner, or something called "Smooth Max" ( http://www.graffitisolutions.com/products/smooth-max%C2%AE ).
  4. My how things have changed since this post - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?135515-The-phone-call-that-I-have-been-waiting-for-Yeeeehawww!-Let-the-games-begin!-)&p=1032429#post1032429 Don't give up on the Venture just because of one dealer. Lots of Yamaha dealers around if they don't deliver the bike to you soon. You picked the Gen 3 for a reason. And definitely call Yamaha Canada and complain. If they don't offer you something (even a t-shirt) for your troubles, ask for a discount as a loyal customer....or at least a patient one.
  5. To let our friends on here know and so there aren't surprises at events and gatherings.... Nancy and I have separated. Nothing drastic happened but I felt it better to start over than not be happy with the way things were going. Not going to get into details here but just wanted to let people know. Nancy and I are separating amicably. Will still be friends afterwards. The division of things has gone without incident, neither arguing about who gets what. We were able to negotiate the separation agreement without lawyers involved. And yes, we are both doing alright with this.
  6. I have a 2nd Gen...but the push to talk button is for the CB. Rider or passenger can push their button and transmit. On the 2nd Gen...you turn on the audio system and the intercom is always on. Music continues to play.
  7. I use Microsoft Streets and Trips. Far easier than Basecamp.
  8. Is the gps a Zumo or like the Zumo where you can use mapping software to plan your trips and upload to the gps ? Or do you have to enter your trip information on the gps screen one point at a time and have it determine the route?
  9. Happy birthday !!!!
  10. Did you look at Kuryakyn's site ? https://www.kuryakyn.com/category/42/highway-cruise-pegs I searched for 2018 Venture highway pegs and found the above
  11. Thought the Slingshot was your wife's ?
  12. Sorry...I was thinking that the carb was open. If it is the valves it would depend on where the cam lobes would be. The cylinders fire in different order. If you turn the engine over without starting it you'd see different valves open. If I'm misunderstanding...then I'll leave it to a knowledgeable person to respond.
  13. My vote would be with the majority....of carbs. Should be shut.
  14. Ever change your fuel pump? Symptoms sound like it. When you turn the key do you hear the fuel pump clicking as normal? If you let the bike sit for 10 minutes (cool down) then hit the starter does it start right away?
  15. When did you last sync the carbs? Likely not the cause of your issues but certainly can't help to "tune" the carbs.
  16. Berrymans does not import into Canada because they don't have a distributor here.
  17. The driver of the other vehicle couldn't see the back of your truck....maybe you need a bigger vehicle ....painted a bright colour....with flashing lights. Wait... that would describe a school bus....which obviously she didn't see that either. If you are going to worry about whether other people see you or run into you, now isn't any different than years ago. It is up to you to pay attention to what is around you and take countermeasures and be prepared. You have to drive defensively (and also a little on the aggressive side). Be prepared for other people to do stupid things. My comment above....If they don't see the back of your truck then going bigger isn't going to make any difference. I look at it this way...when your number is up, then it's your time. You could live in a secluded place, never go anywhere, never do anything, live in the forest miles from civilization....but then a tree could fall on you. (watch the movies "Final Destination"). I'm not going to stop riding for fear that "something" might happen. "Something" could happen driving my car to work....maybe I shouldn't go to work? Hmmmmm......not a bad idea ! Not picking on you. Just saying that I wouldn't stop riding or doing what I enjoy because of one accident that wasn't your fault. Maybe if you were on your bike you would have seen her coming and taken actions to get out of her way. On the drivers door....impact on the back pushed the box forward, maybe bent the frame or unibody enough. Make sure you get the truck properly inspected for alignment and seriously looked at as to why the door is affected. You might be looking at getting the truck written off.
  18. A day late....but glad you had a good day. Happy birthday !
  19. Sorry to hear about the fire. Hopefully she is doing better
  20. Congratulations !
  21. Congratulations on both !
  22. For the rear shock I tend to go with the "14%" rule. Maximum load capacity of the bike is 419 lbs. Max rear shock pressure is 57 psi - 419/57 = 7.4 (which is 14%) My weight 200 lbs x 7.4 = 27 psi for the rear shock - for a softer ride I'll go with 22-24 psi Add my wife...total 310 lbs / 7.4 = 42 psi - for a softer ride I usually go with 32-34 psi When I was pulling the tent trailer I had (2 up) 310 + 36 lbs tongue weight, plus additional weight in the saddles and trunk.... = roughly 355-365 lbs... / 7.4 = 48 to 50 psi For the front I usually ride at about 3 psi. Might not work for everyone but for me this works out pretty well. Tires come into play with shocks...I ride 36-38 psi front, 40 psi rear.
  23. Beer comes out AFTER !
  24. I'm willing to bring my hammer and tool belt.... so that is one able bodied and willing person.
  25. What if you were to have the lumber or materials on site and ready to go, then throw a "party". With around 100 people there, catered lunch, pond for cooling off in.... you could get a new building put together real quick.
