  1. It was in 2004 or 2005 they went to the "pillow top" seat. The '99 to '04 was a different seat but the pan is the same.
  2. I'd be reluctant to do that just to get some of the 1.9L / 0.5 US gallons / 0.42 Imperial gallons back.
  3. The "gauge" inside the tank is on the left side of the tank so when you have the bike on the side stand it shows higher than when the bike is standing straight up. As for it being a 6 gallon tank....when you fill the tank it is on the side stand at the gas station. If you look at the shape of the tank you'll see that an area of the tank is above the filler hole. You lose space in this area and will never be able to put in a full 6 gallons. I usually turn the handle bars so it is as level as possible then fill to the bottom of the filler hole. Add a bit of gas, let the bubbles from that unusable cavity to escape, add more gas...and repeat until no more bubbles are coming out and no more room for gas. I had pretty much the same questions when I got my '09 RSV. See http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?52074-How-far-can-you-go-on-a-tank-of-gas for the points at that time. I did a chart at one time - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?109176-Fuel-Tank-Arithmetic-(I-HATE-math-with-a-passion!)&p=932614#post932614 The "lost" capacity of the tank is about 1.9L or 0.5 US gallons or 0.42 Imperial gallons. If you don't want to follow the link : - "real" capacity of main tank - 17.1L, 4.52 US gallons, 3.76 IMP gallons - reserve capacity - 3.5L, 0.92 US gallons, 0.77 IMP gallons Keep in mind that there are two tubes into the tank that when you switch from "main" (taller tube) to reserve (lower tube) you are drawing from the same tank - main and reserve are not in separate tanks. One time on a trip thru Montana I ran down to the point where I had zero bars showing on the gas gauge. Did the run between Roundup and Malta (265.3km - 165miles) and by the time we got to Malta I was on fumes. Ran 53.3km/33miles on the fuel counter. Had no bars showing on the gas gauge for several miles. Put in 5.2 US gallons - 32 miles/gallon. That was 2 up and pulling a trailer.
  4. Wore the loop off because it was full of gremlins. You know there is a trick to emptying it once in a while.
  5. Glad everyone is getting home safe and sound ! Looking forward to the 4th Annual Ontario rally already as well !
  6. Glad you are going to stick around. I certainly understand your reasons for "hanging up your helmet".
  7. Sorry to hear you can't make it. Hope Becky is doing well. Say hi for me.
  8. Hope the surgery goes well !
  9. E3 for me. Good with tar snakes, rain, long lasting (25 to 30,000 km)
  10. And : - seats - support under trunk (prevent cracking) added - "basket" - colour - tank emblem - "Yamaha" label on trunk near lock - left (yes the left) saddlebag connector for CD/iSimple was added
  11. LOL - don't know my left from my other left but eventually got it right. Sorry for the confusion.
  12. Glad they found it before it became an issue.
  13. Just remember you are the representative for all the WNY group.
  14. Sounds like life/retirement is keeping you busy....and hopefully out of trouble !
  15. The radio antenna is a straight antenna (no coil) and goes on the left side of the bike. The CB antenna has a coil about mid way and goes on the right. A lot of shops assembled the RSV incorrectly and put the antennas on the wrong side. If the antenna on the right side of your bike has a coil, then yours were put in the wrong spots. To fold the antenna down, you lift the collar at the base of the antenna (don't think it unscrews) and the antenna folds towards the front of the bike. Try folding it in different directions in case yours doesn't point forward.
  16. Excuses excuses ! What about the other members from WNY ? Come out come out wherever you are !
  17. So are you or other WNY members coming up to the Great White North?
  18. 2010 and 2012? Old tires.
  19. It is a 3 step process. Start with a fine sanding of the plastic air intakes then there are 3 coatings that are applied to get the finish. Can be done over a couple days. The company I used in Otterville Ontario was out of a person's house and they may not do it anymore. If you look at the Superchrome link you can get the kit and do it yourself. There are other options out there too. If you do a search for "plastic plating" or "chrome plastic" you should be able to find a shop local to you that can do it.
  20. If you can't find the billet covers, you can get the OEM plastic covers chromed for half the price. I had this done for a member while I was getting some other plastic "chromed". They turned out great ! See pictures in the thread : http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?101861-Plastic-chrome-air-intakes The do it yourself kit I was looking at originally is called SuperChrome - http://superchrome.ca/. Check out their "hydra chrome" too. http://superchrome.ca/hydra_chrome.php https://www.pchrome.com/5-ways-can-turn-plastic-chrome/ (see spray on chrome) http://www.thehogring.com/2012/10/16/6-ways-to-transform-plastic-into-chrome/ http://www.spectrachrome.com/
  21. Congratulations ! A doctor and an engineer....very good !
  22. I was going to put E4's on my 2nd Gen but there was only fitment for one wheel, not both. I went with E3's which I can get 25-30,000 km on a set. Can't imagine replacing tires every 10,000 miles (or less).
  23. They don't offer the same version for women.
  24. Contact Yamaha Canada and inform them of what is going on. Others that have had to wait or had issues have contacted head office and gotten "free stuff" for their troubles.
  25. Was down to the wear bars on both front and back tires. E3's are still available so had those put on. $186 for the front, $200 for the rear. Installed at my usual shop (which is no longer a Yamaha dealer since Jan 1)....tax and labour came to $600. Their mechanic has worked on Ventures for 20 years and knows the bikes - 1st and 2nd Gens. Labour rate is $95/hr - hour and a half labour in total. Shortly before tires I did a number of things : - replaced lower front brake SS cables (had changed from a shiny colour to a golden yellow) with new ones and replaced upper clutch rubber hose with SS line (with MarCarl's help) - replaced front and back brake and clutch fluids (again, help from Marcarl at time SS cables were done) - replace coolant - changed oil and filter (T6 and Yamaha oil filter) - changed rear gear oil Still need to check a fuse for my USB port in my trunk. Put a gang fuse holder inside the passenger back rest a couple years ago. Horns (2 Stebels), trailer, and USB ports run off the gang fuse holder. Also need to check my tach wiring as it cuts in an out when turning the handle bars. I also have a RAM Mount for my GoPro camera (mounted off of the clutch reservoir) that I want to drill a hole in the bottom of the mount since it collects water inside and want it to drain when it collects water. When I picked up the bike from the tire change they said that the rubber mounts were in the wrong way so need to see how they did it so I know better next time (oops). I also want to post for sale some of the OEM things I've replaced on the bike (eg: passenger foot rests, fork wind deflectors, etc)....when I get time.
