  1. Start with the simple things....if the lights flash at the normal speed I would rule out the flasher. 1) Check the bulb. Swap bulbs with the other turn signal - does the problem follow the bulb ? 2) Use a volt meter to see if power is getting to the bulb socket - possible break at the socket 3) 2nd Gen the wiring for the lights is under the driver's seat - if you've added other lights check where connections have been made, check voltages
  2. The Mobil 1 oil is one of the ones recommended on this site. When prices went up on the Mobil 1 I switched to Rotella T6 and have been using it since.
  3. Congratulations !
  4. SVTC members ARE definitely welcomed ! There may have been a few feathers ruffled about 1st/2nd Gen owners complaining that YAMAHA made the choices they did but had nothing to do with the owners of SVTC's. I like reading about people's likes/dislikes about the SVTC (as I do read likes/dislikes about 1st/2nd Gens, other brands). I agree with you that listening to someone that took a 20 minute test ride doesn't hold the credence that someone with thousands of miles would have. Comments like this are good to hear and certainly not slamming one model or the other. Everyone has their reasons, experiences, opinion. It is good to hear from riders that have experience with both bikes and as mentioned, it isn't fair to compare one against the other. Consider that the 2nd Gen was designed in 1999...older technology and materials. The SVTC is a 2018 design using updated technology. Different motorcycle ...yes. Best twin touring bike on the market? YES. I'm in this boat too. If I was in a position to buy a new touring bike the SVTC would be 1st on my list. I already have a touring bike, lots of miles left in it, and will likely be the bike I retire from riding on (hopefully many years down the road). Agree with you. You mention previous twin riders who found the SVTC to be the best twin touring bike compared to their previous rides. I don't doubt this. 2nd Gen riders switching to the 3rd Gen and preferring it? I don't doubt this either. More advanced tech than the 2nd Gen....other personal life reasons... and I don't fault anyone for going to the SVTC, or any other brand. Good to hear about your experiences with the SVTC and peoples experiences with other brands/bikes. Positive comments are from those with experience with the SVTC. I comment where I have knowledge and experience. I own a 2nd Gen, but I read posts by 1st and 3rd Gen owners. Pros, cons, experiences. I'm in the category of I don't care what you ride, just glad you ride and hope you ride safe. Why can't you sell the HD ? I'm thinking because there are a lot of used HD's on the market and you can't get out of it what you think you should. My comment in my first post in this thread was based on the low mileage on the 2nd Gen, nothing against the 3rd Gen. Your reasoning is sound and from 3rd Gen owner posts about their SVTC...if you get a fair trade in on your 3 bikes, you'll be another proud and happy owner of a SVTC. Great post! Agree...the SVTC is the top in the twin touring bike market. I'd like to see some comparisons from people that went from Wing to SVTC.
  5. I have the Custom Dynamics run/turn/brake lights and I had the same issue. Load equalizer in the circuit and they still flashed fast. Called tech support and they said to add another load equalizer, one for each light. No problems since.
  6. If the dog is always loose, report it to the Humane Society or the Police. Could have turned out a lot worse for you and for the dog. If there is damage I'd be going to the dog's owners with the repair bill.
  7. Have to agree. Why not keep the 2nd Gen? Nothing changed from 2009 to 2013...so your bike is still "current" and low mileage. I have 93,000km/58,000miles on my '09 and have no reason to even think about replacing it.
  8. I recommend the braces that CarbonOne (Larry) makes as well. If you have highway pegs without the braces you'll notice a fair bit of movement in the engine guards. Install the braces and they stiffen up. Better protection for all the bits since the engine guards won't bend then. On the cowlings/plastic....as mentioned you can use ABS glue to put it back together. I tried it once but found that the ABS glue dried out over time and didn't hold. There is a "plastic weld" you can use that basically melts the pieces back together. Here is what was used on my lower cowling to repair the mount where the screw goes in. Still holding together after a couple years. After the ABS glue dried it came apart and a member used Plastex to repair it. http://www.plastex.net/
  9. Sorry to hear about this. Heal well and quickly !!
  10. Check these ones out. If nothing else they may be able to refer you to someone local. https://www.macraesbluebook.com/search/product_company_list.cfm?prod_code=1659300&region=Idaho-ID
  11. You'd have to do a search online for "plastic chrome" or "plastic chroming" to find someone in your area.
  12. I'm not going this year so have a safe ride !
  13. Hope it is only internet access and not health. Cowpuc....we are thinking of you !
  14. Sorry....this was the post I was referring to. Was Mike G. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?137290-The-old-quot-excessive-whine-quot-problem&p=1045422#post1045422
  15. Freebird mentioned that he swapped baskets with another bike and the whine followed the basket. There are two options to fix the whine. "i" basket is a sure thing. Feeding oil into the area around the basket was another option but I've only heard of one person doing it. Using a different oil doesn't "fix" the whine. If you don't want to take a chance on ordering a clutch basket and getting something other than an "i" basket...buy a 2009 to 2013 RSV. I think the i-basket was used in the 2009's. Seems to only be the 2008's and older that whine (bike, not owners...well, some owners too)
  16. I had the plastic air intakes on a 2nd gen chromed for a member. Turned out great.
  17. Why are you saying "so long" ?
  18. I had a '99 1100 "Special Edition". Great bike and an easy step to the 2nd Gen Venture. Riding position very similar, shaft drive....
  19. Hope it went well !
  20. When you did the carbs, did you sync them? If you run a higher octane fuel...still get back fire?
  21. ...but there is a fix for the broken tabs which makes them better than new ! (Read Only section for 2nd Gens)
  22. 4th or 5th gear and "stumbling" could be a sign of fuel starvation. Under extended higher rpm if the pump is failing you'll get this issue. Mine started doing this and eventually it progressed to the point where the bike would stall. Wait 5 minutes and it would restart but then fail again shortly after. Rejetting? May not be required. I run K&N air filters in the billet air boxes and have stock exhaust. Others with the same set-up and slip-on mufflers haven't had to rejet.
  23. Definitely the shock and NOT the bearings. I had my rear shock replaced one week before the end of the warranty period based on the shock making noise when getting on the bike (usually when it was "cold"). Creek or "groan"....it's your shock. There are a four options available. OEM replacement, 2 different aftermarket (Hagon is one, don't remember the other one), or one of the members here has successfully reloaded 2nd Gen shocks. OEM and aftermarket will run you in the neighbourhood of $500.
  24. Nice looking bike. With Rumbling Pride....think we get a discount with them.
