My Sincere Apology to the members who made the effort to see me

Sorry Swifty.... were you there on time or did you come to the restaurant after we left? And we left almost 2 hours after it was scheduled to start ! Too bad you and I haven't had a chance to meet yet. Think it was you who I saw on Bleams Rd by Fischer Hallman one morning on the way to work. -
Snow City Cycle - do they know how to assemble an RSV ?
XV1100SE replied to XV1100SE's topic in Watering Hole
I agree with you that should an owner break a part it is their problem and not the dealer's or Yamaha's. I got the impression from talking with the Sales Manager at Snow City Cycle that they know the previous owner really well and he already told them that he didn't take the part off. I went from the previous owner's to the local shop for the safety and can prove that from the bill from having the safety done. I'm sure it was the dealer that assembled the bike that broke the clips (and they screwed up on a couple other items too). As has been mentioned, for a dealer to offer outstanding customer service or a good will gesture they should have stepped up to the plate on this. They have failed to do so. I can see Yamaha's point that it isn't a warranty item and has been broken by being installed improperly. That is why they pointed me back at the dealer. -

The chrome trim is Mole1 and it wasn't noticeable to me because I didn't know what to look for. Previous owner didn't notice either. There is a bit of a gap between the chrome and the fairing but it isn't critical. Only reason I was going after the dealer and Yamaha was because neither I or the previous owner took it off. The original dealer broke it on assembling the bike and they should take responsibility. I can see Yamaha saying no to it being a warranty repair. Wasn't defective from them. The dealer is saying that it could have been the previous owner or I that took it off and broke it. And had that been the case I wouldn't take it as a warranty issue. But since neither one of us did... it falls to the installation. I've seen other 2nd gens that have the same gap and unless the owner takes the chrome off they probably don't know the tabs are missing. As for building the bike... because the dealers don't sell a lot of them the assemblers don't have enough experience with where certain parts go. When I talked to the local shop the tech doing the safety said that he is the one at the shop that assembles the Ventures. From my experience with Snow City Cycle (assembly on the bike and post sales support) I would NOT recommend them. -

Snow City Cycle - do they know how to assemble an RSV ?
XV1100SE replied to XV1100SE's topic in Watering Hole
When I took the bike in for the safety I took it to Performance Cycle and they said it wouldn't be covered under warranty because it would have been broken during assembly. I called Yamaha and they said I had to deal with the original shop that assembled the bike (Snow City) and said the same thing as Performance - not a warranty issue. Snow City said that the original owner never reported it so it wasn't a problem. They said they talked to Yamaha as well but neither Yamaha nor the owner of Snow City will do anything about it. I was thinking of taking the bike to Tri-City and see if they'll sneak it thru under warranty. I've never dealt with them though and don't know the people there. -

Will be in Kitchener/Waterloo Area on the weekend

Fireside doesn't take reservations. Think whoever gets there first should get a table (for 8 to 10) and leave the name Venture with the host to direct others to. -

Fireside is at the corner of Ottawa and Strasburg in Kitchener. Not sure if they take reservations but might save us standing in line if we get a head count of who will make it. I could call and try to make a reservation when we know when and how many. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Kitchener&state=ON&address=Ottawa+Street+S&zipcode=N2G&cat=fireside&country=CA&latitude=43.43623&longitude=-80.47773&geocode=BLOCK Either day would work but Saturday might give more time for travellers. -

Haven't seen any final plans posted yet. Girlfriend is working on Saturday, weather going to be nice. Good timing for going for a meet, ride, eat. :-) Fireside restaurant sounds good for dinner. -
I remember years ago from the motorcycle course that if you are on a two lane road and a line of cars is coming towards you, anticipate that one of them will pull out to pass. Make yourself as visible as possible by moving to the right side of the lane. After 15 years of riding and about 80,000km, I try to make myself as visible as possible and the bike as big as possible. I used to wear a white helmet but when I replaced it this summer I couldn't find one. As for riding... what I do is : 1) riding with the sun behind me late afternoon - turn on the high beam 2) approaching traffic on two lane road - anticipate someone trying to pass. This includes in a no passing zone. I move to the right side of the lane a bit and also look for an escape route, double check the shoulder conditions in that area 3) car ahead signalling a left turn in front of me at an intersection - slow down, check escape routes, lanes around me, move to right side of lane, swerve bike from side to side so they have a bit of a side view to make the bike more visible 4) car stopped at an intersection perpendicular to my route - pretty much the same as in 3 but depending on whether they are coming from the right or left dictates where I am in the lane. Anticipation and preparation is key 5) riding beside a car going the same direction - I don't ! I'm always far enough ahead or behind so there is room in case they change lanes. Someone paces me in my "safety zone", I speed up if they are behind or slow down if they are in front I've dropped my bike(s) twice - once on a gravel covered bend on a country road and once on my street where a car turned in front of me and I accidentally locked up the front. Both times I wasn't travelling very fast. I'd prefer to keep the rubber side down and stay in control as much as possible.

Snow City Cycle - do they know how to assemble an RSV ?
XV1100SE replied to XV1100SE's topic in Watering Hole
Update on this.... I've since purchased the J&M headsets and they work correctly so no issue with a pinched wire. I have been back and forth with Snow City Cycle about the chrome piece in front of the windscreen for the past two months and they don't want to take ownership of the issue. They said they were trying to get Yamaha to cover it under warranty but Yamaha Canada is saying it isn't a warranty issue. Snow City has talked with the previous owner and he told them he never noticed an issue with the chrome piece. I hadn't noticed it either but it isn't fitting tight against the fairing.... I wouldn't have known what to look for but my local Yamaha dealer saw it when they did the safety in July. Previous owner told them he didn't take it apart and I contacted Snow City right after I had the safety done. I spoke with the Sales Manager again today and he has said that Yamaha won't cover it under warranty and the owner of the dealer won't either and asked me what I wanted. I've made this clear so many times - neither the previous owner nor I have taken the piece off so it was either a defect from Yamaha or (like my local dealer said) it was broken when Snow City assembled the bike. I'd like them to take responsibility and replace the part even if it costs them money. Today I even offered to split the cost. I believe I've been getting the run around from Snow City Cycle. I can understand Yamaha saying it isn't a warranty item. Snow City assembled the bike incorrectly (and you can see the list in my original posting on this how many mistakes they made) and should replace the part at no charge to me. Granted they don't know whether or not I've ever taken it off but my telling them that it was noticed when the safety was done right after I picked it up and they have spoken to the previous owner and he never took it off.... to make a customer happy they should do something about this. From my experience with Snow City Cycle... they don't know how to assemble a Venture and don't provide very good customer service. The number of times I've called the Sales Manager and left messages on his cell phone to call me back and he never returned my calls. The Venture is my second Yamaha.... I still have the Virago 1100... so I have been a loyal Yamaha customer. Suggestions on other avenues? My local dealer made it clear when they did the safety that it isn't a warranty item and that it was incorrectly installed by the original dealer. Yamaha has already told me directly it isn't a warranty item and to talk with the original dealer. Snow City Cycle won't take responsibility for it. Think I'm at a dead end on this one. -
There is a web site that has turn by turn directions (of original route and later changes). http://www.historic66.com/description/ There are areas/bridges that no longer exist where you have to take detours. It also mentions restaurants and tourist spots to see. As for planning side trips and sites of interest... I bought a poster sized map of the U.S. and have already been flagging it with post it notes of things to see and do in each State (including things like Air Venture in Oshkosh, WI in July). I am looking at events coming up in the next couple years and considering the Pork in the Pines and Maintenance Day and will see what timing works best. Really appreciate the feedback from members.

Winters knocking..what are your plans for the bike this winter?
XV1100SE replied to 1BigDog's topic in Watering Hole
Speaking of de-chroming.... I'll be looking into getting the gas cap de-chromed. Don't like the idea of the leather cover and don't think paint would last. Anyone powder coat their gas cap? My riding season ends once they sand/salt the roads the first time. Riding season starts after a couple heavy rains in the spring. Hmmmm..... if Gary N. has room on his trailer and wants riding company in February.... :-) -

New guy looking at possibly getting a Venture.
XV1100SE replied to Humbucker's topic in Watering Hole
I picked up my 09 two and a half months ago and you can't beat the Venture. Could list all the specs but couple things made my decision for me : 1) my 99 Virago 1100 has been bullit proof as far as the motor 2) Virago shaft drive has been smooth riding and little maintenance 3) wanted a liquid cooled motor for long distance hot condition riding (planning to tour) 4) didn't like the Harley because of the vibration and shaking at stops 5) Gold Wing riding position didn't suit me and prefer the fairing moving with the forks 6) warranty - 5 years. Granted the bike feels heavy when you first start riding at slow speeds but after a couple months (and 5500km) it feels "light" now. Recommend the "Ride Like a Pro" video - that was the turning point for me. As for accelleration... other than maybe the 1st Gens... the 2nd Gen Venture will leave other bikes behind. Fith gear is an over drive and as has been said, you won't be using it until you are over 100k/h. When I was looking for the Venture I set my model year range to 2008-2009. The Venture comes with a 5 year warranty (see if any other bike offers that... you won't find one). My bike is used but the original owner only bought it this past March so my warranty goes to March 2015. One thing to consider about the warranty... Canadian bike warranty is good in Canada. I had considered a bike that had come from the U.S. but the warranty doesn't cross the boarder. I would have had to buy a Canadian warranty. If you have an issue with a Canadian bike while travelling in the States, all you have to do is get the work pre-approved and submit the invoice to Yamaha Canada The current model hasn't changed since it was introduced in '99 so it has survived the test of time. Any known issues you'll find listed on this site but that boils down to really only two things. There can be a whine from the clutch basket because Yamaha used straight splines. At certain rpm you might notice it but it is NOT a mechanical problem. The other issue is that it still comes with a cassette player. I've never used mine but consider that the bike has an intercom system, am/fm radio, cb radio, and an input connector. CB is great for group rides. You won't be disappointed ! -
The $120 price was the only option listed on the web site. Seemed wrong but thats what it said. Coming from Buffalo to Ontario Chad quoted me $20 UPS, and $30 USPS. Could be the one site doesn't like shipping to Canada? Plus it showed as International Expedited which would add to the cost too.

From looking at the 1st gen colors... think it was an '87 Venture Royale – “Alluvial Gold” and “Elegant Brown” I had time to say "Nice bike... you on VentureRider?". His response "Yes"... and something about updating soon. Then the light went green and off we went.

LOL - I will admit that the 1st Gen was behind me and stayed behind. Maybe the '09 Craven Red/Black is faster than a 1st Gen? Figures... I didn't have my head set plugged in. Could have tried the cb to chat but I normally only plug in when I'm riding 2 up.
