    I have the bike up on the lift but haven't checked for loose steering head yet. Will see if there is any play but am leaning toward my issue being tires. I'm glad I found out about it and stopped it before it turned into a tank slapper. Lot of suggestions in this thread and hope you find your answer.

    This has been a fun topic to read. Entertaining for sure ! Before I bought my 09 RSV I took the HD Ultra Ltd and GW for comparison rides and choose the RSV. I'm coming from a 99 Virago 1100 and seating postion on the RSV suited me better than the GW. The HD was nice but didn't like all the vibration from the motor when stopped (and prefer shaft drive). I'll admit the GW has a lot of advantages over the RSV (except I don't want ABS, don't care if it has FI... at 51yrs old the heated seat and grips are a nice idea). For comparison dollar for dollar... in Canada comparing 2010 models GL 1800 AL $29,999 (add cb and you are up to $31,237) HD Electra Glide Ultra Ltd - $24,699 RSV $23,299 (minus $4,500 in rebate = $18,799) (2011 RSV S is $23,899 minus a $400 rebate = $23,499) But how do you compare a 6cyl to a 4cyl to a twin or the different styles? Like comparing a Cadillac/Mustang/Corolla. Creature comforts would be nice on the RSV but looking at the 2010's GW to RSV is a difference of $12.000 ! HD to RSV is a difference of $5,900 ! Bang for the buck the RSV is definitely the way to go ! For some, the name is important, others the price, others is riding comfort. Comes down to it doesn't matter what you ride or what you think of someone else's ride.... just as long as we are riding ! Each to his own. Snowing here today.... 3 1/2 months to spring :-( Won't be riding here for a while. Have to go to the Toronto Motorcycle Show (biggest bike show in North America) in January for the safety chrome!

    I have a DEll 17" laptop from work and have a back pack for it. Fits great in the trunk! I wouldn't carry a laptop in the sidebag. Too much movement, not just from bumps but side to side with corners. Would have to have padding.

    Tried a GW before I bought the RSV. Didn't find the riding position to be as comfortable. Nice bike but not for me. Would I trade for the GW ? No. The RSV has everything I need PLUS a cassette deck !

    Don - I saw on the vbulletin.org site that questions or suggestions can be posted. Do you use that forum? (also noticed that they have a BOTM - Board of The Month poll). I think for the most part members follow the rules on here. I'd go with a sub-page on the Classified for "Seen on other Sites" (generic - covers Ebay, Craigs List, Kijiji...). Ideally if vBulletin supports an auto delete date that the creator of the thread can put in that would be easier for you to maintain. Members shouldn't create posts in other areas referring to their ad or posts in "Seen on other Sites". I too like the way you ask for members opinions and think you do a great job maintaining the site. Hope your health issues have stabilized.

    Normal riding the bike handles great. No pull to either side. When I take my hands off the grips (extremely rare) it runs straight until it slows down then starts to wobble. I'm leaning towards it being the tires (in which case I'll go Dunlop E3) or loose steering. First day this week I didn't ride in to work. -2c (28F) and foggy this morning. Roads are damp and I didn't want to take the chance of hitting black ice. This afternoon will be 14C (57F) so perfect riding weather ! I'll give the bike a going over before I head out.

    The tires are Bridgestones. Thanks for the support guys ! I'm still at work tonight and won't have a chance to check some of the suggestions until tomorrow night or on the weekend but I will post back.

    For the steering head... what should it be torqued too? I'll give that a shot first.

    With the cold air temperature (-4c, 25F) the front was down to 31.5psi, rear to 37.5psi. After raising the pressure to 36 front and 40 rear I still experienced the wobble, maybe not quite as drastic though. I'll double check the tires for even wear tonight or tomorrow. The wobble wasn't there until the bike got down to the slower speed. Normal riding is fine, no issue with cornering, even coasting at 50mph it is fine.

    Been riding my 09 since July, almost 9000km and noticed for the first time yesterday a wheel wobble I wasn't expecting. Tires are original and appear normal wear to me. First time I've done this so it could have been there from day one and was wondering if it is an alignment issue. Hoping someone else can try it or say its normal. Cruising along in gear at 85km/hr (about 50mph) I took my hands off the grips to close my jacket pocket and as the bike coasted and slowed down, at 70km/hr (almost 40mph) the front wheel started to wobble. Had I let it go further it could have turned into a tank slapper. Given the cold weather lately tire pressures were down a few lbs so I put more air in today (36psi front, 40psi rear, have 0psi on front forks, 40psi on rear). Tried same thing and again right around 70km/h I started to get the wobble again. Haven't tried doing it in neutral yet and wondering if it was because the bike was in gear or if it is an alignment, tire, or other issue. Comments?

    Sorry to hear about your bike. Really glad you are unharmed. If the insurance company writes off your '09 you can upgrade to the '11. And you'll feel like you are still on the '09 !

    Temperature was +3c (37F) when I left the house for work this morning. Yesterday was -5c (23F). I'd say there is still lots of riding left.... but that is a Canadian opinion ! I ride with a Cordura jacket with liner, heavy leather chaps, work boots, Aqua gloves. With the full windscreen and fairing... even with -5c I was still nice and warm. For when it gets really cold I have lined snow mobile pants but haven't used them in years - hasn't been cold enough ! :-) My riding season ends when they put salt on the roads for the first time. Season starts after a couple good heavy rain storms in the spring washes away the salt from the road. Here is a simple conversion chart that I received a few years back.     I picked up an 09 this summer with only 2500km on it (up to 8500km now) so I can't speak from experience but from reading on this site think there are some things to check - rear shock - check for leaks or if it has already leaked out the oil, make sure it will hold air pressure - steering bearings - make sure greased and tightened - general electrical - check connections (under seat and in fairing) - clutch basket whine - if annoying, get the splines greased Other than that, as mentioned, regular maintenance. If you don't have maintenance records from the previous owner, get your dealer to give it a once over. My local shop did a pdi inspection (no charge) when I took it in for the safety.

    At 13 a little young to get a bike but maybe in 10 years she could go for a Venture instead of a Gold Wing. Heck... if she looks at any model from 99 on now, she'll know what it will look like in 10 years ! Will probably STILL have the cassette deck !! Only kidding ! Nice that the salesman wasn't pushy with you when she showed interest. Think something like 40% of new riders are female so hope she keeps up the interest.
