This winter I installed the R-Mark receiver on my bike ('09 RSV). I don't have a trailer yet and probably won't get one until next year but I figured while I'm doing everything else I should pre-wire the bike for a trailer. Questions.... - I put the trunk wing on this winter and connected the wires under the seat (per Yamaha's instructions for now - pretty Mickey Mouse the way they suggest). Should I connect the trailer wires under the seat as well or from the tail light? I also have the Stebel horn/wiring harness and passing lights. I don't have a fuse block because I haven't found one that I thought would work very well. Getting a little cramped under the seat! - is there a standard wiring harness that is available? If so, should I install one that has a 4 or 5 pin connector? - is an isolator recommended or does it depend on whether the trailer has LED's? What isolator is recommended? I've seen where you need an isolator depending on whether the brake/turn lights are combined on the trailer but should you put one in the bike for both conditions? I've seen the other threads that say what wire on the bike is for each function (brake/turn/running light) so that part I already know.

I had the issue in the fall when I took my hands off the grips and as the bike decelerated it started to wobble. No pulling when I'm holding the grips. Are you experiencing the issue when accellerating? Decelerating? Cornering?

Those people are so stupid and inconsiderate of that family's grief. How can they think God wants them to do that! -
I got mine thru Pioneer Motorsports. Chad is great and they shipped promptly. Price was right too. Mention VentureRiders and you get a 15% discount.

I'm nearing completion on some updates on my 09 RSV. (aux splitter, passing lights, trailer receiver, trunk wing, drivers back rest) I've been carefully labelling bags of parts and marking on the instructions/tips so I know where everything goes. For the saddle bags... figured I knew what I was doing because I had them off when I put saddle bag rails on last summer. Here is the scenario... unscrewed the four bolts holding the saddle bags on and put them into the little "cup" inside the saddle bag (closest to the tire). Did this on each side and closed the lids and set the bags aside. One tipped over but nothing major. Finished the trunk wing today and started putting the saddle bags back on. Missing 3 screws. Looked on my work bench, checked the plastic bags of parts. Still missing 3. Used a flash light to look in the bags again and nothing in the "cup" or in the bottom of the saddle bag. Looked in the mesh pouch... nothing. By chance, looked BEHIND the pouch where the rails are for the saddle bag lid and low and behold.... there they were ! Had to undo the flap from the mesh bag that attaches to the lid just to be able to poke a magnet down far enough to get ahold of them. Figured I'd check the right saddle bag to make sure everything was secure and found my hinge screws were loose. Only job left now is to fix the chrome windscreen tabs and put the fairing back together. Come on spring ! Forecast this week are temperatures near freezing and flurries.

I've had a '99 Virago 1100 since new and was thinking I'd keep both bikes when I got the '09 Venture last summer. I found that I started using the Venture as my daily rider and only took the Virago out once after getting the Venture. Riding the Virago it just seems so small and light now (490lbs). Love the sound of the v-twin but can save $800 in insurance by selling the Virago. No sense paying if I'm not riding it! Selling it will pay for a trailer and at least one vacation/tour on the Venture. Do I want to sell the Virago? Not really. Can't ride two bikes at once... but it just looks and sounds so damn good ! And this is my choice alone... no wife/girlfriend pushing.

The 5 yr warranty started the day it was originally bought. You probably have until 2013 with it. That is one of the things that influenced me to buy my '09 (warranty still to 2014) plus the rider and passenger comfort. As for the "whine"... if it does have the clutch basket whine it would be under warranty anyway, and not all of them have it. Coming from a Virago 1100 with shaft drive I either don't notice it or don't have it. This site is great for the support you'll find from members plus all the technical docs already available. And as you've already noticed, willingness to help you with upgrades or even to look at bikes you find to save you the drive ! I'm surprised some have let this comment slip by. Anyone with a 1st Gen might want to jump all over this to get an updated, faster bike ! I wouldn't admit to the 2nd Gen being the faster generation... I haven't ridden a 1st Gen... but I like my '09 !

Do you have a little dog that rides on your scoot?

Sorry... you are right. Was thinking SilvrT was cashing in on his souper-stardom ! -

Saw a post that you sold your bike. What bike are you planning on taking the dog out on? -
You might want to try a shop that does car window tinting. They probably have or can get what you want.

Totally agree. I agree with Don's position where he'll let a thread go until things get into bickering. Rather than delete the odd post, better to remove the entire thread as he does... unless there is something usefull in the thread. This is a site for RSV owners and other than the odd comment about "soup-er stars", people who can't keep their cell phones dry, or the occassional political discussion that stays within Don's limits.... lets all get along ! Envious of those who are starting the riding season already. We still have snow and salt on the roads.... supposed to get another 10-15cm tonight.

leveling links ?
XV1100SE replied to royalstar09's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I didn't see the article in our Tech Library. When I tried following the link I posted it went to the Venturer's login screen anyway and not directly to the tech article. That and your comment I figured I may as well remove the post rather than mislead anyone. -
leveling links ?
XV1100SE replied to royalstar09's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sorry Don... I removed the post. When I read the article it looked like it was a "how-to" assemble. -
Couple things I would suggest.... - lots of practice one-up riding. Get used to the bike in movement and stop/starting - good boots with no slip soles - exercise to strengthen the legs When my passenger gets on I am always on the bike first with motor running, hand brake on, feet firmly planted, in neutral. Some say the driver should be in a standing position to get leverage as the passenger gets on. I'm usually sitting and haven't had any issues. I let the passenger know when I'm ready before they get on. As for having the side stand down, I prefer it to be up before the passenger gets on. I've tried it down and then straightened the bike up after the passenger got on but what I found was that as you are trying to raise the side stand the passenger is getting settled in the seat or hooking up the intercom. You have your right foot down and trying to move the side stand with your left foot so you are balancing the bike on one leg. Not a good idea! I keep the bike steadied (both feet down, hand brake on, hands on both grips) until the passenger is settled in and hooked up. Once they say they are ready I put it in gear and off we go.

Is this your first bike? If so, I hope you took the motorcycle training classes and I recommend the "Ride Like A Pro" DVD - shows you what a big bike can do with the proper practice. As for the '05 you are looking at.... ask when the bike was originally purchased. The 5 year warranty starts from the original date of sale. You might have some warranty left. And as has been mentioned, as with buying any vehicle try all the electronics, make sure the bike is the right fit for you, check maintenance records.... and then be confident that you are buying a great touring bike that is barely broken in !

Carbtune should have been able to give you a tracking number depending on how they sent it. As long as they sent it, it can only be lost in the mail, or lost in Customs. My bet is Customs is holding it (you on a list somewhere?). Any chance you can call Customs and have them look to see if they have a package for you? I wouldn't stop doing business with Carbtune. As long as they shipped it then the issue isn't with them. For those that did receive their carbtune... did you notice the ship date and compare it to the receive date? Order date doesn't count. How long it took them to put it in the mail is what counts for how long it took for it to go thru the system. If there was a long time between order date and ship date then the issue is with the supplier.
