I haven't seen stores that sell the Silverstar ULTRA in single packs and was thinking of replacing my headlight. Current stock headlight is almost invisible at night with the passing lights on. Was wondering if anyone from the KW area bought the two pack and has a bulb to spare they'd like to sell. Don

Anything you order from the U.S., try to get them to send it USPS. That way you only pay the HST. If they ship by the major carriers (UPS) you can expect brokerage fees of around $60.... + HST. If you go across the border, Pioneer Motorsports in Chaffee, NY gives members a 15% discount. Call them and ask for Chad. They were at Maintenance Day at Don's this year. I've ordered a fair bit from them and they have been great to deal with. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28592

After reading on the Forum, last year I ordered the TLC liners and am quite happy with the quality. Nice having the name stitched on them and the seams and zippers are sturdy.

Would be nice if for next years International we could get motorcycle cops to do a demo (make it a public showing, not just for VentureRiders) or invite the "Ride Like a Pro" people to do a training day.

It isn't only for those that can't make it Wed night... but also those that want two rides per week !

Looks great ! Congratulations

Glad to hear you are recovering but don't rush it if they weren't sure what caused it.

Wash the back wheel???? Never thought of that ! (ok.... maybe in the fall )
-
Glad to hear you are back in the saddle again. It will take time to get over the accident mentally but the advanced rider course should give you back your confidence.

I'm with the majority in that I bought it to ride it.... but as for cleaning I actually do it once in a while. Spring - rinse the dust off with the hose, use a wash mit and Turtle Wax car wash, dry it with a chamois, rinse and spray with S100, rinse and dry again - 1 hour Regular cleaning - mostly when it is dirty or roughly every other week, will rinse, wash using Turtle Wax car wash, rinse, dry - 1/2 hr to 45 minutes Fall - regular cleaning but will use Turtle Wax Ice afterwards - 1 hour During the summer, if I'm showing it off I'll give it another wax after a regular wash

I'm glad this subject came up because it sounds like some of are experiencing the same thing and other than fellow riders... who do you talk to and find out it is more common that we thought. We need a sticky for potential members to read on the benefits of membership : - technical advice - riding partners - "family"/friends - buying advice - road side assistance - travel advice - psychiactric advice/help (a place to sound off frustrations) .... and now medical advice

For me (me 195lbs, girlfriend 120lbs, additional safety chrome and luggage - approx 330lbs total) I figured with maximum carrying capacity of the bike and the range you can put in the rear shock... I run 40psi in the rear and 0psi in the front. Not sure what the difference would be if I add pressure to the front. I have a proper pump (zero loss). Can someone comment on what adding pressure to the front does?

I had my carbs sync'd at MD. I'm thinking with 15k km on the original front Bridgestone I'm getting vibration off the tire. When turning left there is a hum coming from the tire and the mirrors used to be solid but now can see vibration. Also... still have the issue of the front end moving side to side (like a tank slapper) if I let off the handle bars and it coasts down to 60km/hr. I don't think the steering head needs to be tightened.... think it is related to the Bridgestones.

Glad you are okay. Insurance should replace the tank and be good as new. Doesn't take much....

I definitely agree with you that graduated licensing should be in place based on size of bike and yers of experience. Statistics do agree that a certain age group of males has the most accidents. It needs to be based on how long a person has had a licensed bike on the road though, not just how long they've had a license. I doesn't stop "stupid" though. The accident last year where the female passenger fell off the back of a bike on the 401 in Pickering involved a 37 year old driver. Wanted to bring to everyone's attention though that there are other things besides traffic that we have to watch out for. An Ontario couple hit a bear in NY State yesterday. I checked the name... not a member here. http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/1021701--2-canadian-bikers-collide-with-black-bear-on-n-y-road?bn=1

Was wondering if anyone has tried other speakers (marine). Because they are waterproof as long as the specs are better they could be used . I'm not in the market since I use J&M headsets most of the time.... http://www.rocktheboataudio.com/html/37467.html. Also came across these that are for GoldWing/Venture - http://www.bazooka.com/products/motorcycle/Speakers-C25/Yamaha-Venture-S106/MCC4002---4--Speaker-for-Honda-Gold-Wing-and-Yamaha-Venture-P238 JVC - http://motorcycletunes.com/proddetail.asp?prod=4-JVC Throw this out as another option... (this for Harley but the idea could be transferred to the Venture) - http://www.motorcyclespeakers.net/shop/bagger-audio-lids-kit-193-prd1.htm

Don't get me wrong but I like it when someone posts about a motorcycle accident and especially the cause of it. It isn't that I have a warped mind or anything and my prayers are with the rider every time. The reason I think it is important that we post about bike accidents (and the cause) is to remind us all that we are NOT invincible, that most cagers do NOT see us, that as good as our bikes are and how well we think we take care of them they are mechanical with two small patches of rubber on the road and that things do break at the worst moment. It isn't always the person that turns left in front of us, or tries to take our lane, or is occupied on a cell phone and rear ends us....there are cars backing out of driveways, deer that run across in front of us, birds that fly into us, drivers blinded by the sun, truck tires that blow, road kill, the weather, oil on the road, gravel on corners.... I don't know how many times I've told my girlfriend ahead of time to watch what I think a driver will do and sure enough, no matter how unlikely it is that they'll do the stupid thing I am suggesting, they do it. How many times have you anticipated and avoided a situation? It is the things we can't anticipate that we have to be keeping an eye out for. We are well into the riding season and it is easy for us to let down our guard and become complacent or comfortable. Now is a good time to remember that sh*t happens that is out of our control but we have to be ready for everything. I'm sure most of us do a pre-season mechanical check of our bikes. Time for a mid-season check to look for worn tires/brakes, loose bolts/nuts, and to remind ourselves that riding a motorcycle is NOT the safest thing to do in the world and that WE are not invincible. Sorry to ramble but I'd like to see all the people I met at this years MD and more at next years, and in one peice ! Enjoy the ride, but be safe !

Re: 2000 VENTURE MM Millenium Rider backrest
XV1100SE replied to Patrolman46's topic in Watering Hole
I had done a search on here for back rests and it seemed to come down to being the Utopia or the Diamond R. First criteria was the recommendation of members and felt there was a slight edge towards the Utopia. Pretty sure Yamaha also had a back rest available but don't see it on the site. I found dealing with Utopia was good. They shipped when they said they would and installation directions clear and reasonably easy to follow. I've never removed the pouch on the back rest and it comes in handy for storing things you need quick access to (wallet) or head set cords. Glad I could help you find what you were looking for ! -

I have the Utopia on my 09 RSV. I checked the site and they do have it in the cream colour. http://www.utpr.com/rsv.html -
First thing I do when I see a Venture rider is ask them if they are on the site. If they say no... I tell them of the benefits and of the weird.... errrrr GREAT people on the site ! Word of mouth is one option for the poll... but recommendation from a member should be on their too ! Hmmmm.... finders fee for new members?

I liked your picture of the gas pump ! Nice looking scoots ! Maybe you should set up a web site like this one ! Enjoy the ride !

But at least you still have your RSV ! She let you keep that !

Since we are telling our stories.... Last year was using a drill with a Philips screw driver tip to take apart a table. One of the screws was stubborn so holding the piece with my left hand and pressing down on the drill with my right...the bit slipped off the head of the screw and hit the top of my index finger on my left hand. Of course I paused to make sure my finger was okay... until I saw blood on the underside as well as the top. Thought.... COOL .... went right thru ! Then took the screw out with a little more care. Lucky for me it missed the bone but I do have a small scar on top and bottom of my finger now. Two more to add to the many ! Sorry about your accident. Hope you recover quickly !

I had posted a comment on the newspaper site and they responded saying they couldn't release the name because the family had not been contacted yet. Don't know if they will update the story with the name since it is "last week's news".
