Good choice. Now to find him to tell him he is done.

From the title bars you can click on "Community" and when you put the cursor of "Members List" you'll get a list of Provinces and States on the left side of your screen. Can't choose region but you can choose by State.

Freebird - do you still have any of the domed decals left?

Would be handy to have cards (business card size) so when you meet a non-member you can give it to them so they have something on paper to remember the web site address.

bump... So... plan is "The Count" (Steve) and I leave Kitchener around 10am and arive at QEW and Casablanca (Grimsby) around noon and meet up with "Saddlebum" (Ben). Should leave there around 12:30 for the ride to Chaffee. Anyone else from SW Ontario interested?

Glad she is okay too. Hard way to learn to stay in your comfort zone when riding with someone else. Sounds like you have had a busy summer with travelling. Hopefully you've had time during your trips to explore.

Fuel cock and shifting ?'s
XV1100SE replied to Venture Rob's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I leave my petcock on "main" when riding. It is a good reminder in case you don't notice the light or low fuel mileage countdown. I know... how many things do you need in order to keep track of your fuel? -
Nail polish remover.... takes it off. What every guy has around. LOL

I also have the tag along and based on recommendations greased the bearings and replaced the zerks. The one's they use are cheap and break off too easily. As for wheel size... from what I've read as long as you aren't doing 85+mph for hours on end you are okay. I'd check occassionally to see if the bearings are getting warm but whether it is 8" or 12" it is still the same hub size... hence grease is more important.

There is a certain point where you just give up. Cut your losses. Then either do it yourself or try to find a contractor that will actually show up.

General Questions
XV1100SE replied to Mountaineer47's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
1- tires - Metzlers are known to "chunk" rubber off. Generally the recommended tires are the Avon's and the Dunlop E3's 2 - Pinwall - sorry... I don't have any experience with them 3 - radio - nothing has really changed from the '99 to the '11. Minor changes like seats, colors.... You sure the sound is set to SP (speakers) and not HS (headsets)? Did you check all the connectors from the radio inside the fairing -
07 RSV Rear Shock Not Covered??? WTF ??
XV1100SE replied to StarRider07's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Has the Yamah Regional Rep looked at your bike? How would they know if you abuse the bike without looking at it? Has the original shock been sent to Yamaha to diagnose? If the rest of the bike looked like it hadn't been taken care of or had heavy modifications... Do you pull a trailer? -
Glad things are going well so far !

I had a Virago 1100 before going to the 09 RSV. You'll find the Virago to be a very light bike compared to what you had. Easy to ride, familiar seating position, and performance. Easy to maintain. I sold my '99 for $3600 this spring so it should fit your budget. Early '80's had stator issues but anything after that is good.

When I bought mine I followed the customer comments and did the following : - repack bearings - rubber tubing (actually a piece of garden hose) on the shackle bolt (rear capture bolt) - replaced lights with LED's - put rubber (another piece of black garden hose) thru the holes where the wiring went thru the frame - replaced the zerk fittings - one was broken out of the box - replaced bolts holding the "car carrier" box to the frame with eye bolts. Will replace these with ones I saw at a trailer store that fold flat. This way I can use helmet nets to secure any load down while trailering - shimmed coupler bolts with a couple washers - DON'T over tighten or it squezes the coupler in and the ball release won't work properly I didn't see how to remove the overload spring so I left it in. Didn't flip the axle either. For the money... (I had a 20% off coupon) it is easily worth the price.

I think you have to !

Isn't that one of those things you are supposed to think as a husband but never say? Like when she asks you if you think she is gaining weight.... NEVER say YES !!!! Better to say "you look great".

Agree on the whine and that some are worse than others. Think it also depends on what you are used to. I came from a Virago 1100 with shaft drive - not sure if the gears are different - but I don't notice a whine on my '09 RSV. Mind you... .I probably have an "I" basket or newer. Have over 18,000km on mine now.

Congratulations on the new addition ! As for the audio... check the basics first... is it set for HS (headset) or SP (speaker)? On oil... if you do a search you'll find a couple recommendations and it depends on what is available to you or personal preference. I use the Mobil 1 oil and am happy with it. Don

When we went to MD we stopped in Grimsby at the Casablanca exit off the QEW and went from there. Think that would be a good meeting spot. Leaving KW at 10am we should be at the "meeting spot" about noon. Hit the road again at 12:30. On Sunday, leave between 10 and noon depending on when we get started.

Steve and I are planning on heading back Sunday morning so we won't be taking the train ride. Steve has a room booked at the Microtel (?) and I will be camping at Pioneer.

Congratulations on getting custody. Still a battle thru the courts though. One guy I work with went thru a messy divorce and with kids involved he used to say he should have killed her instead of divorced her and he'd be out of jail by now.

Steve and I were talking about leaving KW around 10am.
