Think this summed it up pretty well and is the reason for arguments and hostile posts. In this day and age (in most countries) we are free to express our opinions and free to believe in whatever we want politically, religiously, or otherwise. Avoiding or setting rules against these topics is a way to make sure we all play nice together. The way the moderators have let some discussions go and knew when to put an end to something has been great. They have been just that... moderators. Not censors. Diversity in opinion and ideas goes a long way. One of the benefits the Internet and forums like this provides is the ability to get answers and results from multiple sources... some knowledgeable, some not. Its up to us to filter out what we want or choose our answer. For the most part, I think the majority of the members on this site don't care what colour a person is, what political party or religious group they belong to... or if they belong to one at all. And we are all free to express our opinions. Where the line gets drawn is when someone becomes offensive. Again... the moderators do a good job at keeping things liberal (small 'L') in allowing discussions on different subjects. They could say that we were only allowed to talk motorcycles and nothing else. I'm no an athiest but I'm also not a church goer. I believe people have the right to express their religious beliefs or live to those ideals. Don't come knocking on my door though telling me how their way is the only way though. Also... don't preach about living life a certain way and then not follow what you preach. I don't take offense at prayer wishes. People offering their prayers aren't telling me that I have to say a prayer for someone or go light a candle for someone in church. When you see that someone is offering a prayer for someone who has been injured or in hardship, realize that it is for someone they feel is worthy of support either for their actions in the past or because that person is genuinely a good person. As a new member here you have probably found that this is group is like a family - and everyone is accepted as a family member whether they've been on the site from the beginning or just a trial member. Our "family tree" is the RSV/RSTD, a biker, or know someone who is a biker. When you see that someone is offering a prayer, don't be concerned that it is in the wrong place. Easier to keep updates in one place and whether they include prayers shouldn't matter. I wouldn't want to have to go to multiple places to read something about one topic. Take a "prayer" simply as someone expressing their "best wishes". Offering support whether emotionally, physically, or beliefs... shows we care. Details on how an accident will come and hopefully we all learn from it.

Funeral Escort Killed
XV1100SE replied to Yama Mama's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Going off topic on this thread but....Doing anything in life isn't always "safe". If you look at bike accident statistics, people turning left in front of us is still the most common reason for a biker down - we can't start avoiding intersections ! As always... we have to stay attentive, expect the unexpected (another way for saying "stupid actions of others"), be prepared for anything (animals, road debris, weather, mechanical failure), wear the proper gear... and the list goes on and on. When my kids were younger I made sure I was well insured in case anything happened to me. Money can't replace a parent or loved one though. It is up to each of us to decide whether the risk in anything we do is worth it and the impact to family and friends. But we can't stop living ourselves. If you are going to stop doing anything that has any risk associated with it then you aren't living. It isn't even safe to cross the street ! And don't start second guessing whether or not you should be riding or not - you start doing this and you will make a mistake! Do what you enjoy, keep those that make you feel good around you, don't sweat the small stuff, do unto others as you would have them do to you.... -
Funeral Escort Killed
XV1100SE replied to Yama Mama's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Don't take this the wrong way but he was doing the escort work for any number of reasons : a) wanted to provide support for families in times of sorrow b) needed the extra money c) ........ I don't know his reason for him doing that work and frankly it doesn't matter. He is a rider that went down. I feel sympathy for the family and the rider but want to know the cause so hopefully I can avoid a similar situation in the future or be able to warn other's. As for him being a retired cop... he didn't have the accident in the line of duty. To me, if an Officer, Fireman, military person dies during the course of their duties it is not the same as if they died off-duty. I think the mistake that was made here was that he didn't know what entrance was going to be used. The procession was in the left lane probably to provide clearance to turn into the cemetary (might be a tight entrance) and the driver of the hearse didn't look to make sure the right lane was clear. The rider was probably expecting the next entrance to the cemetary to be used and was speeding to get ahead of the procession. Think it comes down to these two reasons for the accident and needless death - he didn't know what entrance and the hearse driver didn't look. -

Have you already received your arm rests or were you just checking out how to move the trunk?
-
Go to http://www.kuryakyn.com/Metric/Pegs and put in the year/model info. According to that... they do fit the Venture. There is an online help/chat available so you can confirm with them directly what you need.
-
The only thing you need to "unstick" is the rubber at the back of the trunk (underneath) that rests the trunk on the support rail at the back. Just peels off. Put it on top of the rail after you position the trunk (before bolting it down) and press the trunk on top of it. As for moving the trunk... under neath there are 3 hole positions for each screw. You only have to move the trunk back one hole. You will need to get a nut for a couple screws since a couple of the holes don't have nuts welded to the support. The scariest part is drilling the holes thru the passenger grab rails ! Make sure you are lined up and go for it !

Grass cutting here probably to the end of October... but why do today what you can put off until tomorrow? We didn't get much rain here in July and first week or so of August so the grass went dormant. Didn't have to cut it !
-
What about the passenger transmit button? Does it work? Would confirm whether or not it is your PTT or something somewhere else.... unless both button's are dirty.

Summer is coming to an end... why do you want to waste time cutting the grass (assuming it is a lawn mower) when you should be out riding !

Need Prayers for Ponch!!!
XV1100SE replied to Sweetnothing's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Great news ! And Ponch.... when you are well enough to read this thread and the outpouring of prayers and best wishes you will see how we all rallied for you ! Over 230 posts and over 9400 views on this thread in three days ! Keep the good news coming and a speedy recovery for David ! -
Those ones are for GoldWings.... not the Venture. Also consider the ones in Carbon_One. I picked up a set about a month ago and my girlfriend finds them to be very comfortable.

I think you are right. Not aimed at any one particular party. This is an International thing too. Think we have a Senate that we could say the same thing about !

Need Prayers for Ponch!!!
XV1100SE replied to Sweetnothing's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Like so many others I'm logging in often just to see if there are updates on Ponch's condition. Hoping for the best! Any word on where the accident took place or if anyone else was involved? -
Red light cameras don't stay on constantly. They are set to fire the camera a couple times around the light change to red. Different States/Provinces allow for you to go thru a red light if it hasn't tripped within a certain number of minutes. Depends on the location. I've rolled back then forward to try to trip the light and usually that works. Otherwise, if you have a car behind you and it hasn't tripped (because I'm on the sensor and they are behind it) I'll move forward and give the car room to move onto the sensor. Usually the'll move up.

Have a safe trip !

I recently had my stock Bridgestone rear tire changed to a Dunlop E3 due to wear (17k km) but left the stock Bridgestone on the front since it still has about 1/2 the tread left. In this configuration I'm finding a big improvement in slow speed handling. I know someone recently mentioned Avon front/Dunlop rear but even with Bridgestone front/Dunlop rear I'm feeling the improvement. If it gets better when I replace the front with a Dunlop E3 in about 10k km... great !

Hope your wife gets better soon and they identify the cause. Have you considered holding an "M,B & E" (Meet, Build, & Eat) to get the garage built?

Make millions: invent the canceler canceler!
XV1100SE replied to Semi-retired's topic in General Tech Talk
From the '09 RSV manual.... "the turn signal lights will self-cancel after the vehicle has traveled both about 150m (490 ft) and for approximately 15 seconds. ... TIP - The self-canceling system only operates when the vehicle is moving, so that the turn signal lights will not self-cancel while you are stopped at an intersection." Based on this.... turn your signal on sooner and the self cancel will work just fine. :-) -
Glad you are okay !
