  1. Sorry to reopen an old thread but just wondering.... putting a cone behind the speaker... does water get into it or how does it "breathe ?
  2. I have to take mine in for warranty replacement of the right rear speaker too. Didn't have any issues with the dealer - they heard the distortion and that was good enough for them.
  3. Did you replace it with a Yamaha part or from the local supply store?
  4. Check out the following.... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32675&highlight=remove+cassette http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=51321&highlight=remove+cassette http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47157&highlight=remove+cassette http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20518&highlight=remove+cassette http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6103
  5. Sorry.... did you say something? I wasn't listening.
  6. Time to schedule a maintenance day or meet 'n eat (and build) at your place for the Spring !
  7. You survived with no injuries, bike stayed up... in the split second you made the decision you made the right call. Nuff said.
  8. After my first experience with UPS shipping from the U.S. to Canada I've requested USPS when ordering anything else. Think my first item was $60 brokerage plust HST (13% sales tax). When I ordered my LED lights from Custom Dynamics they have : Canada & Mexico: (Customer is responsible for all Duty and Custom Fees) Mail (3-4 weeks): $11.95 Preferred Shipping Method: UPS Expedited (2-3 days to most locations): Calculated on weight with insurance and tracking, Brokerage Fees* Included, Rates Starting at $32.95 for 1-5 lb package, Guaranteed Delivery So I thought, "okay.... I'll try it and see". Sure enough, NO BROKERAGE FEE was charged on delivery. Still, future shipments I'll request USPS to make sure. Also, think if it is marked as "motorcycle parts" there is no brokerage fee but not sure about this.
  9. Don't forget it is also liquid cooled and shaft drive ! There are a few things to watch out for... clutch whine is one on some bikes (not all models but on some the 99-1x bikes. If buying used take it for a ride and listen as you go thru the gears... but rev it higher than you would a v-twin. Going to 60mph in 2nd isn't a strain on this bike. If you regularily ride 2-up your passenger will appreciate the seat comfort and the space. As for the members on this site... you'll get maintenance tips and instructions, riding buddies, ice cream runs are a regular meet, Maintenance Days at Freebirds, International meets, riding tips, travel advice..... even medical diagnosis. And if you need to build a garage, ask Yammer Dan for contractor advice !
  10. Bump ! Carl - you need 60 people or 60 riders ?
  11. Nice quick reaction from your wife ! Guess that's why they are called co-pilots ! She probably didn't want to have to help you pick it up from the ground !
  12. Should have a folder where the deleted posts go so we can all see them ! Darn.... missed another one !
  13. Glad you are (mostly) okay !
  14. Nancy and I will definitely be there. An event not to miss !!! Forget MD.... M.N. (Marca N.) will be the event of the YEAR !!! Let me know if you need any help organizing or setting things up.
  15. This is a good way to get discussion and let everyone know how to do it.
  16. If something was wired the wrong way (without relay) and is "live" all the time an accessory can drain the battery too. I have the iSimple iPod adapter and it is live all the time to keep the iPod charged. If I don't run the bike for a few days I disconnect the iPod. Did you have the old battery tested to confirm it was a bad cell? Also, the new battery might not be perfect and might need testing.
  17. Me too....
  18. Pretty good for showing how its done... pretty much ties together with what everyone was saying. Comments on : - when you have an odd number of riders... tail stays in track of leader and two seconds behind the person directly in front of them - when you have two lanes (like an Interstate)... when in the right lane the leader is in the left track of the lane but in the left lane should the leader be on the left track or right track? My thinking is the leader should be in the right track to block cars cutting over and for the most visibility. When riding solo you'd be in the right track. Tail should also be in the right track of the left lane for protection and safety. - when three lanes on Interstate... right lane and centre lane the leader is in the left track of the lane. Fast lane the leader takes the right track (with tail in the same track as the leader) - riders with trailers (or trikes)... give 'em lots of space... basically the full lane with a two second gap to the next rider. They give two seconds in front as well.
  19. Sorry to hear how much trouble you had. I think part of it comes down to how many Ventures the dealers see. Still.... that is no excuse for them screwing up your ride !
  20. Avoid sudden stops though
  21. Went from a Virago to the '09 RSV... I use the heel/toe all the time. Wouldn't want to go back to just a toe shifter or pegs instead of floorboards.
  22. I try to avoid areas where I have to back the bike up uphill. When I've been by myself in a situation like this sometimes turning the front wheel and pushing back (while seated on the bike) works to get around whatever hump of gravel might be stopping you. Other times I've pushed back as far as it will roll and when it won't go any further I've held the front brake, compressed the front forks and then release the brake as I'm pushing back. This works if you get the right timing on decompressing the forks.... but can take a while !
  23. Try for the 10 months. Can't hurt to ask ! Wish you luck !
  24. Looks good ! (so does the bike !)
